Think we agree on the player but I see it as more hysterical than a tease.

Gregor might be one of the fastest players in the league and he can carry the puck. He blazes up and down the ice at blistering speeds but nothing effectual ever comes of it. The game just sort of continues once he's done speedskating.

It's pretty entertaining on the 4th line.
That sounds a lot like Mathieu Joseph who we traded, however it seems he was a party boy and wasn't always aware defensively and a lot more expensive than Gregor. If Gregor can get it out of the D zone quickly and either put the puck in a safe area or pass it to a finisher, then he will be a good addition. Thx for all the input, much appreciated.

He can do those things reasonably well. He doesn't seem like a party boy or any of those issues.

He's just Ok. That's why you got him for below a million

Hakanpaa was photographed in Finland for a charity tournament wearing a Dallas Stars jersey.

Stars have around 6.42M in cap space but need to sign Harley. Faber just signed for 8.5M x 8 years but even with the tax advantages in Dallas, he couldn't possibly sign for less than 7.5M x 8 so I think at this point Dallas probably needs to get him around 4-5M range and get as much term as they can from him. Not sure what this would leave, if anything for Hakanpaa.

Treliving mentioned him as a signing on July 1st/2nd, so it's a bit weird. Everyone confirmed the signing with the Leafs as well other than the Leafs of course. Sounds to me like he's in a bit of a grey situation rehabbing his injury and just wore a jersey with his name on it for the event. It's also possible he failed his medical in some manner.

Yea that's the 2 things I come back to...he wanted to wear a jersey with his name on it for the event...the contract is almost definitely not registered with the league...because of either some cap shenanigans or he failed his medical.

Maybe the Leafs wanted to get clarity on the Robertson situation and didn't wanna risk not having cap in case of an offer sheet?

* Top 2 lines play a fast puck possession playmaking game, bottom 6 play dump & chase & tough along the boards with players with some size that can also add depth scoring. Also an ability to move players up in the lineup, when needed based on injuries.

So ignoring the fact it's unlikely Marner would waive for CBJ...you've basically traded him for an absolute garbage return.

Fowler is getting older and while I am not Marner's #1 fan, I definitely don't care for Zegras that much, worse offensively and defensively, he might be cheaper but it's not fixing anything.

Laine is finished in hockey .. Johnny hockey is just an older version of Mitch .. maybe worst trade i have ever seen .. team gets much worse .. we need a top flight D man for Mitch period .. and maybe a pick

At 32 I still think Fowler has 3+ good years left as a top 4 guy and 1PP specialist.

While Zegras doesn't make you better defensively in any way, he allows Tavares to move down the lineup into more of 3C role, adding much needed scoring depth to the lineup. Toronto's most likely prospects to make the roster in the coming years are guys like Cowan, Grebyonkin and Nylander, all of whom play on the wing. Adding another top 6 C who is cost controlled and signed to a reasonable AAV is my top priority right now. Preparing to extend Tavares, but move him down the lineup as he experiences age related decline, is a paramount for me.

I'm fine with you not liking the deal, I'm just looking for ways to address what I continue to feel are the issues with the lineup. Namely, the following.

1. An additional top 4 defenseman that is cost controlled. Ideally someone that we know can QB PP1.

2. An additional top 6 center that is young and cost controlled, allowing them to continue developing and push Tavares down the lineup into a two way (Jordan Staal'ish) 3rd line scoring role.

Probably as could as you could hope for

Leafs would likely need to retain around 2M on Marner

Monahan & Marchenko vs Matthews & Cowan as linemates, if Gudreau & Laine combine for 50 + goals it is a good trade. G

Is there a reason why you don’t add your daily proposals to this thread you started?

Marner 10.9 million ( sign & trade ), Robertson & JT 11 million ( Leafs retain 40 % of his salary ) & the 23 rd overall pick in 2024 NHL draft to Columbus. Leafs retain 4.4 million

Toronto receives Alexander Nylander RFA, Laine 8.7 million & the 4th overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft. Leafs draft Tij Iginla ELC.

Leafs save approx. 5 million in cap savings after Columbus trade.

Leafs trade Kampf & Jarncrock another 4.5 saved against the cap.

Leafs sign Montour 7 million x 7 years, Pacioretty 2 yrs @ 3 million & Stamkos 6 million x 7 years as UFA's

Pacioretty Matthews Nylander
A. Nylander Stamkos W. Nylander
Laine Iginla Cowan
McMann Holmberg Knies
