Minnesota Wild acquire Gutav Nyquist from Nashville Predators | TSN

The Minnesota Wild are acquiring Gustav Nyquist from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, it was announced Saturday.

We've acquired Minnesota’s own second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Wild in exchange for forward Gustav Nyquist. In connection with this trade, we've agreed to retain 50 percent of Nyquist’s salary.

That's a steal if they got Nyquist 50% retained for a 2nd round....that's the deal we should have been making, would have looked solid on a line with Tavares and Nylander or Jarnkrok, that's unfortunate....this is what im talking about, why didn't we pull the trigger on this man....ppg player for 1.6M cap hit, regardless if he walks next season he's an upgrade to any player on our roster around the same caphit for a draft pick that has under 50% chance of working out or being apart of this current build.

Everybody is talking about B. Schenn he has 12 goals and he is slow
The centers that are out the arent very good.

Last yrs playoffs Mathews Nylander McMann and I believe Knies was injured missed some games. If all of those players were healthy we would have beat Boston .
We have enough scoring and they are finding other ways to score

Timmins and Myers should not be on the playoff roster.

Brayden actually skates pretty well - he's definitely not ROR slow. But St Louis is apparently looking for a premium for him because he's their C.

With Nashville moving Nyquist 50% retained for a 2nd im confident we can get L.Schenn, Tanev retained for a 4th-7th
And the cost for Tanev shouldn't be too far off the same value as Luke.
This helps a lot with getting B.Schenn at a decent price, if he's retained twice his contact will work out to the same as Nyquist but with term...so obviously we will have to pay a bit extra for the term and having another team retain some of his contact. Could see something like this

Send down Knies, Steeves & Rifai plus Holmberg but im not sure if he has to go through waivers?, gives us 3.275M....trade Myers, Timmins, Reaves, Dewar = 4.405M gives us a total of 5.980M to acquire three players. If management can get this done, we have the ability to call up Knies, Steeves, Holmberg & Hakanpaa come playoffs those are all huge additions.

If we got L.Schenn & Murphy 50% retained we're left with 2.405M to acquire a top6 player, B.Schenn is a possibility but he needs to be retained by two teams, otherwise we need to find somone else.

If Nyquist is getting a 2nd I can’t imagine what guys like Laughton and Schenn going to get

Ok and do what exactly? Get bounced in the first round again?? Dude we can’t go into the playoffs with Timmins and Myers in the line-up

Nyquist holds around the same value as Laughton & Schenn too be honest depending on how the deals worked out you could argue Nyquist holds more value in the sense you're stuck with a contact x2 or higher in cap with term unless you can get two teams too retain cap sure now B.Schenn's contact is the same as Nyquist therfore you're just paying for the retention & term so a 2nd round plus whatever that would take low prospect and a low pick....keep in mind that deal for Nyquist also included 50% retention

I don't know much about the trade dicussions... I mean I've been following but I'm no insider.

Saying that... leafs need another good right D... and a lower key defensively responsible centre.

Not sure why leafs are chasing a schenn... he's not worth that price.

We'll see what happens but I'd get a puck moving right d if possible. Even swing for the fences on that but don't lose our big prospects on a half ass upgrade at C.

The Murphy (50% retained) deal is quite something. Hard to imagine Chicago doesn't bite our hands off.

Leafs should at the very least make a trade for a forward with some term (Schenn/Laughton) to cover their butts in case both Marner and Tavares leave. And another D-man has to be a priority

He looks like a 3C all day long to me. You're telling me he doesn't have more upside than a Kampf? This kid is already ready to play here, I see a solid 3C who can come possibly be a 2 by the time he is 23. Don't under estimate his IQ, he's going to be an over achiever.

Look at how Nashville turned out this year with all its free agent signings. If we had Marner, I can see players wanting to sign in Toronto, so they get easy goals from Marner assists, so maybe we can get better deals. But it's difficult to see free agents signing good deals if Marner is not here/the team is not good.
