Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
Thoughts on Sissons and Luke Schenn. Could be had without draining the prospect pool. Sissons affordable, good on faceoffs, 2 way game. Good in the 3rd centre spot but can play wing as well. We know what Luke brings

Guy isn't that good. Wow. Think Chicago did well there. Glad that we didn't pay that. Even with the retention.

Guy seems like a little shit. Whining the other day about his team.

Best league in the world and he throws the guys on his team under the bus. I'd never want a guy like that on my team.

That's a fair bit of money to retain but that's a decent haul for Chicago

Knight is a good young goaltender and a first is always valuable

Interesting to see it’s a 2027 first. Usually don’t see deals with 1st rounders 3 years out, but I guess Chicago really wanted a 1st in the deal, and obviously the Panthers didn’t have a 2025 or 2026

It may end up paying off for them, most teams have a period of contention then drop off, that team may be getting to the drop off position in a few years time

Its a 2026 pick but moves to 2027 if Florida drops into the top 10 this year.
They have a condition on this years pick that they traded for Tkachuk

It was inevitable that Florida would replace the D they lost. Personally think it was a great deal for Florida. Valuation on retention is all over the place.

Panthers and Bolts coming in hot, some things never change.

20 games to get people up to speed.

Tweek your lineup at the deadline but that is it

Hard disagree.
If you have holes that need to be addressed to give yourself the best chance as post season success, then you address them to the best of your ability.

At the end of the day, the goal is to be the best, and win.

Again just like the Nyquist trade this help with the market value now on guys like Parayko if available.....Jones got a late first round + #1 goalie, with 26% retention, assuming Parayko would cost a 1st round plus Niemela but I'd want them also retaining cap lets say 23%- 1.5M

We would have to find a way to free up 5M in cap though to make this move....we could do that by moving Kampf, Timmins, Myers, Reaves, Rifai
But it would make it difficult to add anyone besides Parayko and that's not a good look....even if we send down Knies & Steeves(1.7M) we could grab a guy like B.Schenn or Tolvanen retained.

I think my trades make us a better team vs this roster

Schenn-Matthews-Marner
Pacioretty-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-Domi-Jarnkrok
Steeves-Lorentz-McMann
Robertson

Rielly-Parayko
McCabe-Tanev
Ekmam-Larsson-Benoit
Hakanpaa

VS

Schenn-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Tolvanen
Knies-Domi-Jarnkrok
McMann-Lorentz-Tanev
Pacioretty-Holmberg-Steeves
Robertson

Rielly-Murphy
McCabe-Tanev
Ekmam-Larsson-Schenn
Benoit-Hakanpaa
Niemela

The breakdown

Both options get us B.Schenn
Parayko vs Murphy,L.Schenn, Niemela
And we add Tolvanen, Tanev
Option B is obviously alot better and actually cost us less cap, and the cost would be very similar

Chicago was motivated to move Jones. St. Louis has no such motivation to move Parayko.

That is a very strange forward lineup you’ve concocted here.

Why is Schenn on the wing?
McMann gets demoted to the 4th line where he will be able to do nothing?

How did we add Parayko, Schenn, Tolvanen, Schenn and Tanev cap wise? Seems highly improbable
