We should get a separate thread set up for Dekes and Dreakmur.

Treliving won't want to take anyone off the roster other than guys like Robertson or Holmberg, so I think the more likely outcome is that he trades for guys in the mold of B Schenn, Gourde, etc., where the price will be a lower end prospect and a draft pick.
The complication for the Leafs is that I would imagine they would want St. Louis, or a third team, to retain on Schenn's salary, which will cost additional assets. If the price for Schenn is low, that’s an obvious target.
NMC aside, I'd have to know what that looks like but I'm hesitant to agree off the top. The Maple Leafs are not in a strong position to remove playoff players from the lineup, regardless of early season hiccups.Rielly is expendable and should be moved for a Knies replacement if you get Dobson. Alas might be asking too much of Tre to do before the TDL.
Antropov and a first was once our unbeatable offer.Cowan, Niemela, Timmins/Robertson/Kampf/Holmberg/Steeves and a 1st can get anyone is the NHL. It's the new Ryder, Halak and a 2nd.
Let's discuss further if we acquire Dobson.NMC aside, I'd have to know what that looks like but I'm hesitant to agree off the top. The Maple Leafs are not in a strong position to remove playoff players from the lineup, regardless of early season hiccups.
Given our history, we should keep the things that work, and delete the things that don't. That goes for Keefe (gone), Domi, Reavo (money immaterial), Woll, our D build, prioritizing Matty and Willy goals, etc.
We have to make sure we go forward without going backwards, through the brief 100% hockey we get.
If Rielly would get you a Knies replacement if Knies gets you Dobson, then why not just trade Rielly for Dobson?Rielly is expendable and should be moved for a Knies replacement if you get Dobson. Alas might be asking too much of Tre to do before the TDL.
I have no problem with your constantly correcting him, but his convolutions in trying to not acknowledge any of it can be annoying after the first few trips down his rabbit holes. We’re in every thread!
Buffalo has a history of letting players go only to see them bloom elsewhere
Unless the Hathaway fight truly did change him (something I’ve seen Sabres fans suggest).Cozens is almost certainly guaranteed to have a Conn Smythe Trophy caliber run the way things go for Buffalo.

No Dobson for what they can trade. Young offensively talented right shot D with size are worth more than wingers unless there is a huge talent difference. Knies won't get there and Willie and Mitch aren't on the market. Interesting player for sure but the Leafs have two tiers of players and one of them has NM.Agreed, Leafs are in a position where we need to add without subtracting and without Knies we only have three wingers.
If we could get Dobson for Knies and then get an adequate replacement on the wing then we should be able to get Dobson without trading Knies.
If not, than it sounds like it's a bridge too far, which is unfortunate.
We shouldn't let go of Knies anyways. I dont know what the NYI are thinking but if they want to start from the beginning than Cowan and the some good futures should get you on the phone. No Dobson for what they can trade. I gave you the example you asked for. Rielly has shown an ability to put up a Letang caliber performance in the playoffs, and Letang wasn't even there for one of the wins. The defensive performance they received does not require a ton of cap, or us losing our core. Cup winners come in all different shapes and sizes. There is no formula. But if there is a common trend, it's that successful teams invest in their best players, regardless of position. Marner is one of the best players in the league, and really important to all aspects of our team.Wingers bring less than other positions and they bring even less when you have more of them. They are as impactful as that position can be…. Which is still the least of all the positions. Letang has on 8 occasions been a top-10 defender according to Norris voters. Rielly has done that once. The whole point of this discussion is about building a winner under the cap. Their core of forwards took up how much cap space? As I said, they are the closest in terms of roster composition, but their cap was much better managed. I’ve said it many times before - any roster composition can theoretically win the cup, but the salary cap requires that money be spent wisely. The law of diminishing returns applies to all positions, and especially at the less important ones. Unless Marner is going to take a discount, it’s not smart. We’ll be forever at a disadvantage in terms of roster building.
It would be a 3.6m hit for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 though. That's pretty significant dead cap during the years we're likely more focused on competing in.Assuming Schenn has this season and one more in him at a top 6 level, the buyout drops to 1.3 million when the cap will be like 110.
I think most people have moved on from that. Most offers are now including one of Minten/Cowan and our 1st. I think we all realize Robertson isn’t returning much lol.Just had a look at the main boards trade rumors section. Seems like everyone has caught on to our Robertson and a plethora of shit being offered for any rumoured available player.
