Boston took such an L trading Ullmark and then immediately losing all negotiating leverage with Swayman
About as bad as they could have played it other than losing swayman too but at this point might as well have traded him for a kings ransom and then tried to fleece us again for another goalie lol

Supplying the bruins with rask, Hamilton and Seguin was such a legendary run of bad trades to the same team. May not be topped

How do feel about bringing Jake Walman back to his hometown? He's having a great year in SJ and showing hes a good top 4 dman. He's 28 so he doesn't fit with SJ's rebuild so it makes sense for both teams.

Ugh! It pains me everytime I think about it. Rask was bad enough...then dumping those picks for Kessel. He was great...don't get me wrong. But we could have gotten him for Kaberle and the 7th overall (Kadri). Burke wouldn't pull the trigger, only to eventually trade Boston Kaberle anyway...for Joe Colborne and a 1st and 2nd. But wait...it doesn't end there. That first got dealt to Anaheim to move up to draft Tyler Biggs and Stu Percy. Anaheim's pick at 30? Richard Rackell. The 2nd also got dealt for JM Liles. That pick bounced around to a few teams and eventually amounted to nothing. But it left us without a 2nd in the 2011 draft where we missed out on potentially drafting...John Gibson. Oww...it hurts my soul even now.

Never forget Detroit gave San Jose a 2nd to take on Walman, such a dumb move from Yzerman. Not sure why San Jose would trade him anytime soon if he's doing well.

There are plenty of things we could have given that are equivalent

1st in 2026, 2nd in 2025.

Niemela/hildeby etc. a 6 4 RHD with pedigree would be massive for us. Oh well

Maybe they wanted a 2025 1st round pick. But we also didn't have much interest probably.

We're also trying to improve the roster and using all those assets for a young player that is a bit of a question mark doesn't seem very good in our spot.

In theory id. Be interested, but would only be hesitant in that I'm think the team needs to prioritize upgrading the forward group, which will take cap room and a good portion of the teams most tradeable assets

Yep, team is in win now mode. Not much room to shelter a guy

I would still do it. There is always the need for a big RHD and his upside is quite tantalizing … even if he tops out as a reliable top 4 guy and not a top pair, that price is good for the long term.

Landing him and not giving up one of their top assets in Greb, Knies, Cowan, Danford, Minten would be pretty stellar. There is a need for quality D in the pipeline too.

I agree the fit is awkward especially since the Leafs are competing but there was a big opportunity here too
