Oh dear God, are we really going to spend the next 3 years reading trade proposals for Crosby because some Toronto media talking head made a random comment that had no merit or substance?

Please tell me it ain’t so…..
If Crosby were to want to finish his career elsewhere, I would think he would pick the Habs. He grew up as a hard core Habs fan.

The only way he would choose our Leafs, is if he wanted to show a middle finger to Dubas.

JMHO.

I wouldn't think he would leave one rebuild for another.
IMO, 99% he goes no where. If he does leave, Colorado would be top of his list.

and people are speculating on it, as if it would get done as a market value trade. Look, there is a 1% chance at best Crosby doesn't retire a Penguin. If he doesn't retire as a Penguin, it's because HE asks to move. If HE asks to move, they are doing him a solid, and moving him, to where he wants to go. Dubas is in no position to ask for maximum value under such a scenario. He'd cost valuable pieces no doubt, but any trade is more about respecting Crosby's wishes, than a franchise altering haul of futures. Any trade to move Crosby, is about Crosby's wishes, not the return... in any case, as much fun as Crosby addition to the Leafs is... It's just a fantasy.

Malkin is a much more likely target to move, IMO.

I would not be the least bit shocked, if Malkin "retires" after this year, and goes to play in the KHL for a couple of years. He's made enough money, and if the team isn't going anywhere, why bother? Would he want to move? Doubt it... if the team isn't going anywhere, I'll speculate he goes home.

I mean, to be fair, we'll be hearing about for the next three years just because it's a perfect storm

One of the greatest players of all time, at the end of his career as his team enters a rebuild, comes home to Canada, to a top contending team, one of the most storied franchises in the sport, desperate to kill their drought by any means as their window starts to close.

These talking heads are salivating at the idea and fans (on both sides of the argument) are hyper aware of the narrative.

With the whole war thing happening and how he left for the NHL...would it be wise?

If it were any other time in history, easy yes. Kuznetsov put in his time down in the KHL before coming over.

I'd say your scenario is more likely than him being traded though.

Wanting to play with Mackinnon in Colorado makes way more sense than the Leafs if he wants another chance at winning. The are extremely close and saw them both together in a Tim Hortons when we were in St. John’s this past August.
We can and I will ;)
Well played sir. I LOL’d.

Since the Blue Jackets took David Jiricek sixth overall in the 2022 draft, they haven't been able to agree on whether or not the right-handed D-man is ready to play in the NHL. Have the Jackets now decided it's time to move on from him, C.J.?

Johnston: Well, more or less. I think that is the case. I mean, there's certainly a lot of smoke around the situation and a lot of noise and that's because of the fact that the Blue Jackets have engaged in trade discussions with other teams on this big right-shot D - as you mentioned - still just about to turn 21 years old, very much with his career ahead of him. I think a significant thing has happened here - is initially the Blue Jackets were looking to get another prospect back, someone equivalent, a kind-for-kind type of trade for Jiricek. You know, they're getting to the point where they may consider now a package of picks, maybe even a depth defenceman as part of what it would take to get him. I think that will bring more teams into the mix here. Certainly time is of the essence. He's down in the AHL and doesn't want to be there forevermore.

The quarter mark of the season is a good time for teams to figure out if they're going to be buyers or sellers, and the Flyers are still in the selling mode, Dregs?

Dreger: Yeah. They know what they are and they know what they're doing. The Philadelphia Flyers are still in the building process of building a long-term foundation. Danny Briere is one of the more active GMs and he's taken a lot of calls. There's a ton of interest, as we know, in veteran defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen. I mean, he's a top-four D and he's got a couple of years after this year on term. So, that also checks the box in his favour. Here's another interesting name that's been out there on and off over the last couple of years, but back on. Not that Philadelphia wants to get rid of him, but Scott Laughton is a centreman that is drawing a crowd. Lots of interest in him, but - again - not eager to move him. So, if they have to listen closer to the deadline, it's going to take a premium draft pick or likely a top young prospect or NHL player.

Thanks for sharing.

Ristolainen is an offensive D, who is very weak defensively, who no longer contributes offensively. He is owed $5.1 for this year + 2. Anyone stupid enough to trade assets for that, deserves what they get.

Laughton is a nice 3C, who provides an element of offense, and physicality from that spot, but isn't that great defensively. I like him quite a bit, but to suggest a "Premium draft pick, or top young prospect" seems extreme.

This is one heck of a sales job by TSN though.

Jiricek is interesting, and someone should take a chance on him. We aren't at the stage where we can "hope" someone turns out though, and we don't exactly have that best track record to date, on developing D. It will be interesting to see how he turns out, hopefully goes to a rebuilding team who can use him, and be patient.

Your Worst Nightmare
Calle Jarnkrok or David Kampf + Nicholas Robertson or Pontus Holmberg + Cade Webber + Topi Niemela + 2026 1st round pick (Top-5 Protection, Becomes a 2027 1st unprotected)

for

Rasmus Ristolainen (50% retained - 2.55M per for 3 runs) + Scott Laughton (3M per for 2 runs)

I think the Flyers would have to pay teams to take Risto at this point.

To be fair, it beats 12 months of Maxime Comtois and Andrew Peeke.

We've already had 2 months of Granlund.

Does that actually add to a legacy?

I think it's fairly rare for a star player to do so.

Sid is already a sentimental guy - is his contract number consistency. He's already won three cups, multiple gold medals just about every relevant individual award.

I just don't see a huge motivation to leave to another team for a couple years unless he actively loses interest in staying in Pittsburgh
