He is indeed 32, 33 on December 15th.

From Friedman

8. Yanni Gourde is an interesting one. His production is down, his ice-time is down, but the Kraken organization loves him. Even as things haven’t gone great for him, it hasn’t diminished how they feel. Ultimately, both sides have to agree if this UFA-to-be marriage will continue, but, at this time, there’s no indication of a divorce.

Seattle fans are disappointed in the above... they'd like to move on from him.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Gourde at this stage. Small guy, who is slowing down and becoming less productive. On pace for 29 points, and the team does much better with him off the ice, than on the ice.

For sure they liked him, itd kind of player everyone like.

Gourde isba small guy who's playing bigger than a 6'6 Bjusgtad.

He's bringing grit, defensive ability, can producr even if his production is not optimal this season. Plekanec in 2018 doesn't had a better production but his impact on the leafs had been amaizing alongside marner and marleau... if he can do the same thing, it would be huge for leafs

Jiricek would be an amazing addition. This type of players do not shake lose often enough. It is very unlikely that we will be able to have the best package for him. But if there is a deal to be made then we should be all over that.

Encouraging to see how the depth has looked, but all of this has only solidified that center is the position we need. I would try and go for someone younger and term this time. Not sure who comes to mind though.

Bjugstad might be a good 3C option, if we don't feel Minten is ready. He's a UFA, Utah is struggling, his contract is just $2.1 mil, so he's easy to fit in cap wise... shouldn't cost too much. Big C, physical, has put up points when put in a position to do so. Is at 0.46 PPG this year in 13 games, which is better than guys like Gourde, Laughton... Utah does much better when he's on the ice, than off... It might be a good cheaper option.

Seems like a good fit for the cap hit and the roster fit. A natural center with size and capable offensively would be nice. Not sure I'd consider him physical though.

You'll need to take a chance on a player struggling on their current team. Not many teams want to trade good young (and cheap) players, let alone centers.

Jiricek is a good example of a young player struggling and that probably needs a change of scenery. If he was doing well, he wouldn't be up for grabs.

We're in a spot where we're trying to improve the roster, so finding a player that can elevate our depth is going to be hard if you want a younger version. Morgan Frost would probably fit but it's not like he's excelling either... so there's a risk there.

Yeah, I think a player with a bit of size and two-way ability is what you're ideally looking for on that line. If they split up the "big three" you can potentially put Nylander on his wing and spread the offensive creativity. I think that's a good fit because Bjugstad can give Willy some room as well as compensating on the defensive side of the puck. Throw Pacioretty or McMann on the other wing, and I think you have a pretty good third line with size and a scoring touch.

I love how after what feels like forever, we FINALLY have good goaltending depth after 1/4 of the season so now some people want to immediately trade out Hildeby because he's not the shiny new toy anymore lol

Both Hildeby and Artur are 23. They should realistically have two more years on the Marlies if we're developing them judiciously. Please do not repeat the mistake of Rask/Pogge by needlessly trading one away prematurely just because we have two studs in the AHL. That's actually a good thing! Stolarz is on a two year deal and Woll has obvious health issues. We need this depth.

Matt Murray is a different story obviously, take the best pick you can get from a desperate team at any time.
I totally agree. I follow college football pretty closely and I compare this to stacking recruiting classes. Just because you end up getting 1-2 elite QB’s in one recruiting class doesn’t mean you stop trying to get them following year. Just like with the goaltending. Just because you have 2 studs now doesn’t mean you get rid of the other young guy or avoid drafting a goalie the next year. My thinking as a fan is you should draft at least 1 goalie every year to make sure your depth gets replenished and it gives you enough bullets to eventually hit on 1 star

Can someone realistically explain why Crosby talk to the Leafs is just randomly popping up now? lol 😂 like I know we could use depth at C but we’re not even in December yet. This kind of talk is usually saved closer to the trade deadline

They need a goalie don’t they? How about a 1 for 1

This would be wild. All the Ontario based Pens fans would lose their minds.

What do we give up for a retained Crosby?

Cowan and 2026 is the starting point. How much more? … Kampf to make the salaries work… Dubas probably still like Robertson. Who else did he draft that he likes? Hirvonen and Neimala?

This is pretty far fetched. The only scenario where this happens, is if Crosby turns to Dubas and says, I want to be traded, and only to Toronto.

It will mean more to Sid and Pens ownership to have him retire there having played his whole career.

If he hadn't already won a few cups he may would have considered it, but don't think he's going anywhere

Crosby is a pipe dream but if you're talking a deal, it would probably be something along the lines of,

To Toronto-
Sidney crosby 50% retained

To Pittsburgh-
Fraser Minton
Easton Cowan
Calle Jarnkrok
David Kampf
2026 1St Round Pick

We don't have an equivalent goalie to do 1 for 1 not to mention goalies normally don't hold that kind of trade value
If he can’t make that line up I’m sure we got an equivalent I understand what your saying but at the end of the day they must have a surplus of d why he’s not playing and they have a dire need for an actual goaltender and our position is the opposite so I just feel like it makes sense to engage in a 1 for 1

At the beginning of the season I said keep Minten with the Marlies, and see how he's doing in the new year. I'll now say keep him with the Leafs until the new year to see what he can achieve. He's such a smart player. I think he'll perform better as he gets accustomed to the show, and playing with better players on a consistent basis. Dec is a busy month, let's see what he can do.

Kampf is a whatever
Minton met
Cowan sure

The scraps make it a no go and someone else will beat the package.
