The Naki
He’s too smart to not be ready he has the body already we need a defensive center hi iq and can chip in he looks like he hits every need

You want to be careful with his offensive game, it's still developing imo and it could be the difference between a 3C or 4C or a 2C in a few years time

I think the statement below should end any debate

In a recent edition of the Empty Netters Podcast, it was reported that Ryan O'Reilly stated that there is a pair in the Toronto Maple Leafs who will never win a Stanley Cup. Ryan O'Reilly is a well-respected forward in the NHL, having paid his dues to the league for 15 years.
A pair? Could the duo be Dubas and Keefe, lol

The past week with all the injuries piling up, 3 players are being mentioned by so called insiders or hockey reporters that they could see playing for the Leafs this season.

Let’s start with ROR
Contract is great, don’t think Leafs need any retention as long as Calle goes the other way.
Assets wise, it won’t be much as ROR is just okay.
Would it make sense for the Leafs? No as he is just okay but his brand is more attractive than his game.

Kadri.
Love him and want him back and he will help the current Leafs.
Assets wise will be a lot esp Leafs will need retention.

Marchand
Probably best of the three and will instantly gives the Leafs the X factor in playoffs.
Like Kadri, the assets to acquire him will be even more than Kadri.

Overall, I don’t like any of them due to the cap. If there is no cap, Marchand can and will play a key role in playoffs.

I don't think Kovacevic can get that.

My rationale is Zadorov got eyes from playing on Vancouver, mentioning he wanted to play for Toronto and his agent (Milstein) is pretty loud and gets eyes on him. He also ends up on highlight reels for big hits and some fights. He also put up unusually high offensive numbers in the playoffs.

Kovacevic will drop the gloves but for a 6'5 guy, he generally averages around a hit a game. He's playing in New Jersey which results in him flying under the radar, I am surprised Montreal didn't even get more for him.

So I won't outright dismiss the idea of a 5x5 offer for Kovacevic occurring, I just think there might be a perfect storm to get him for less. I could get my brain around a 4 year deal to something around 4.5-4.75M range if I had to though. I hope he had some Leafs pajamas growing up.
I think his bottom line is probably the Tanev AAV. He's not exactly young either and there isn't a big sample size on the player. I dunno, maybe I have PTSD from the Jeff Fingers and Mike Komisarek's of the world, Leafs always seem to get burned when we hand out those contracts that could go either way. I guess I'm not really convinced Kovacevic is a legit top 4 guy yet, it's a lot of money to commit to the D if he's better suited as a 3rd pair. Management need to identify these targets before these players reach their payday imo.

I don't understand what the hold up is for the Robertson for Tomasino trade.
Seems like a good hockey trade for two players who desperately need a change of scenery. Gives us another right handed player which we could use throughout the lineup and he’s from the GTA, maybe it’ll lite a fire under his ass.

The Predators are one of the few teams that have an abundance of right handed forwards.

Claude Giroux, 36, is UFA.
61% at the dot.
Playing 19 minutes a night.

Is he a rental candidate?
I have him near the top of my list if he is available.

It doesn't look like he would want to move very far from Ottawa because of family reasons.
So an extension is plausible.
