The challenge of course, that once Hakanpaa and Dewar finish their conditioning stints, which by my calculation is November 10th.... the next day they have to be added to the roster... which already has the maximum 23 players.

So two players need to be "moved". Clearly Myers is the first guy, and he'll get waived and sent to the Marlies if he clears, and the question is then, who is the second guy? Will they waive someone like Reaves, expecting him not to be claimed? Or will they have given up on Robertson and move him?
Leafs have 5 games before the 10th. It's going to be 5 really important games for a few players, particularly Robertson.

right , guess i'd rather they trade one player who makes a bit more i.e. Kampf,

It's going to be Benning and Myers who are waived for Hakanpaa and Dewar to return. Leafs will run 14/7 instead of 13/8 once they are back.

Apparently the Leafs didn't even want Benning in this trade and he was a throw in at the Sharks request to make the money work for them. Leafs are going to try and flip him according to Friedge, but if they can't move him they'll probably just waive him too.

Yes, I missed Benning in the lineup... oops, Thx for the correction. I agree that it will likely be Myers and Benning then.... unless of course they decide to move Robertson anyway.

He’s a 7 million dollar player as it looks right now playing on the top line and arguably looking like the best player on it and not cause of the other two players on it mind you that’s what happens when we put our rfas on the top line with great players shoot ourselves in the foot every time
I mean... We're also trying to win hockey games lol. You need to ice the best lineup possible.

Interesting take from Friedman.

I thought I had read that the Leafs had previously had interest in Benning and had tried to get him before, so it didn’t seem odd that he was the token player included in the deal.

If Hakanpaa can play , we have Timmins, Myers and Benning for RHD. Wonder if the plan is to continue to play McCabe on RHD or keep the LHD as Rielly, McCabe and OEL and sit Benoit, while seeing if one of the 3 RHD can nail that 3RHD spot down, like I had hoped Liljegren could.

Rielly-Tanev
OEL-Hakanpaa
McCabe-Benoit/Timmins

Makes sense. I don't see anyone claiming Benning to be honest, but I could see teams dealing with some injuries taking a shot at a cheap contract like Myers for immediate RHD depth.

Honestly expect Myers to be claimed on waivers, likely by Utah.

Agree on Benning with him being signed for next year, but I really can’t see Myers getting through waivers.

Jarnkrok will eventually be coming back too... so bodies will need to be moved. I don't see Kampf being moved out, unless somehow we get an upgrade.

Friedman... noted that the Marlies won the Calder Cup in 2018.

Brooks, Marchment, Moore, Grundstrom, Johnsson, Dermott, Liljegren, Holl... not a player on that team left with the organization now.

Jarnkrok is probably untradeable. Good player but nobody is taking on 2.1M for 2 years for someone to play 35 games per year

May be biased but I’d give Knies as close to max term as possible. Less concerned about cap hit honestly.

You want to milk the prime years of these power forwards and with the cap climbing fast, you have a chance to get a lot of value out of that deal after the first 2-3 years.

As far as I see it he’s a core piece and something we’ve been looking for forever. Nobody else on the roster or in the system compare stylistically. He’s a piece you win with.

He's been a pretty durable player through his career. He's played well above 50 NHL games every season since entering the league. Obviously this current injury won't help his value but I'd be confident in him being very tradeable. 2.1M for a couple more years is very fair for his contributions and nowhere near untradeable status.

8 years betweeen 6 and 7.5M would risky but I'd do it as well. I would not go a penny over what Lafreniere just got.

35? LOL Hyperbole much.
I always forget you need to add some kind of indicator or people think you're being 100% serious.

Anyway, I really like Jarnkrok myself but if there was a version of him on another team, I doubt we'd want to trade for him. I can't imagine he has value unless a team has a ton of injuries. But, if that's the case, why trade for a player whose always injured?

While on the topic of Knies...

Does this dummy GM have a plan with him, or is he just going to watch him put points with Matthews and be taken to shed later?

Should've dealt with it in the summer Brad...

What was the motivation for the player to sign in the summer?

Not getting the relevance. You could just say you don't know.
You offer enough money then to turn the player's head enough to sign, kind of like what they did with Woll.

Could they have tried? Maybe, I don't know, but he isn't signed. But if they planned to have him with Matthews and Marner for this season, then I would say they didn't plan it too well.

A forward doesn't really have as much motivation to sign early as a goalie with a long history of injuries, and even still, we overpaid Woll.
Well, not forwards on this team...

Unless you're Mathews and you make him the best-paid player in hockey.

I'm sure Matthews, his Agent and anyone close to him advised him to play the season out. He could only get more by waiting, at worse whatever was available in the summer would be available later.

An oft injured Goalie signing is completely irrelevant IMO.

Wow..

"Don't sign now, Matt; take them to the cleaners like we did."

What a club...

Except it isn't because the idea with Woll is that you bet on him outperforming the contract by giving him that much; the idea can and should've been applied to Knies as well, the difference being you're doing at a higher level.

So whatever that number was in July or August has certainly gone up.

as an oft injured goalie, Woll was more motivated to sign. Knies had no such motivation.

Players naturally talk to each other about these things. A young player looking to an older one for advice isn't unique to the Leafs.
His agent would have given him the same advice

I don't doubt it, but hopefully, management talks as well.

Like perhaps Shanny to Treliving, so he can tell him that signing these guys as soon as possible would probably be for the best, based on previous dealings.
