What do you think Utah, Seattle and especially Chicago say?

I think if we throw these packages at them they would all show strong interests....sure they might try switching out a few prospects but we counter with more picks if thats the case, but i think the value here its pre fair

Utah add's more offense in Domi and there's no saying McBain doesnt sign for around the same cap hit as Max next year so they dont lose anything there. They also add Hirvonen & a 3rd round pick, its good value for them....the more i look at this deal i strongly believe it's an overpayment but McBain would be huge in our bottom6.

Seattle gets a 1st round pick and they can take any year i wouldn't care, Niemela & Timmins as they need more depth on defense plus Jarnkrok & Kampf who can be flipped again for picks/prospects....I'd throw Abruzzese in there too if they asked for more.
5th and Dewar for Tanev seems reasonable, maybe they ask for a 3rd or 4th back.

Chicago gets a 2nd round,
Mattinen has a 50% chance of being a #5-#8....its possible they try switching him for another prospect, plus Myers who's looking like a solid #6 or depth
I'd be willing to switch out Mattinen just not for Danford.

A lot but at least they aren't content with just passive moves. Thats a well run team. They know if you have stars, you have to be aggressive.
Also the excuse Matthews isn't himself so we have to be careful I disagree with. He put up arguably the best season in franchise history, and Brad still didn't do much last year. It's just how he is.

I wouldn't let what other teams do dictate a desperation move personally.

There is a difference between desperation and actively improving the team, and Brad isn't doing either yet

It's easier to justify going bigger at the deadline had our star core players shown any semblance of their talent in the playoffs and that they can lead this team to a Cup/cup run.

But in the absence of that largely in the last several years, wasting assets on depth/supporting players - especially short term rentals - seems like a wast.

The issue with McCann is his greatest value comes as a shooter on the RW halfwall on the PP. We don't have space for him there

Will also have a hard time bumping Holmberg off the second line . Last time I checked the Leafs had 2 PP's. What's wrong with setting up shop on the 2nd pp? Again, not their biggest need, but this team needs one more top 6 fwd who can score.

It makes me want to trade Cowan + for Nelson. Tre must act. The market is clearly overheating... Too many buyers and not enough sellers.

They absolutely can and should. Not even the usual 3rd + 5th for a 6/7 D bullshit Tre usually does. Claim some cheap guys on waivers if you need extra bodies. 1st++ for Laughton is a fireable offense, taking Risto without getting paid to do so is as well. Any pure rental for any price is fireable.
