Im not against Nelson as a player but honestly when was the last time we saw a team taking the biggest fish in the sea as rental and be happy with it at the end? Those team rarely past the 2nd roune and been disapointed most of the time...

Just look at add from stanley cup winner since 2016

Last year
florida Tarasenko okposo
vegas barbarahev, hill
colorado lehkonen, Manson
TB savard, coleman, goodrow
STL nothing
Washington kempny
pitts streit hainsey, schultz hagelin

the most sexy trade are rarely the smartest move

If we are going to spend good assets, I'd prefer a younger player, with years of control... even if we disagree on who that might be.

Maybe we turn our attention to Utah players?

McBain
Bjugstad
Crouse
Kesselring
I would love a blockbuster for McBain, Crouse and Kesselring

To Toronto-
Mcbain 50% retained
Crouse
Kesselring 50% retained

To Utah-
Kampf
Timmins
Robertson
Minten
Cowan
1st Round Pick

Only 2 ways Marner would ever waive right now. 1.( He’d be willing to play the next 8 years in Carolina) 2. (He already had an extension lined up prior to the trade being made, sort of like a sign and trade)

I said this last summer but if Marner ever chose to leave Toronto it’s going to be somewhere like LA. They have the room to sign him, amazing weather and most importantly to him is 1/100th of the media attention. He could play with a young team, make the playoffs, make a ton of money and go to the beach on off days.
Grab Clarke and a Centre for Mitch.
I wish…

Laughton + Ristolainen (retained) is a nice package.

Don’t get the Risto hate, he’s been really solid and is a perfect fit here as an upgrade on Timmins

Trouba (50% retained) and maybe even Strome from ANA would be my ideal/reasonable TDL. Not sure there’s anything else that’s reasonable.

No chance I’m paying more than a 2nd for Laughton and apparently that won’t get it done anyway.

I think they need more D that can make an impact more than they need a FWD (although a 3C and/or LW would be great).

Let be honest, the only young player available and who really deserve it is probably Cozens and will start with Knies for a trade. and will be pretty hard to make him fit under slaary cap

Edmonton has 5.4M to acquire upgrades or 8.4M if they trade J.Skinner.

Toronto has 5.3M they need to free up for Tanev & Pacioretty assuming they come back before the playoffs....that leaves us moving Domi & Reaves.

Now the only way we can upgrade as we're strapped on cap is moving Dewar, Timmins, Myers, Mermis, Jarnkrok, Kampf that gives us around 8.3M to acquire upgrades.

We have better or equal top 6s and better goaltending than both.

What makes Connor Brown, Janmark, Boqvist or Samoskevich better options on the 3rd line than Domi or Robertson?

Also why would Robertson even be an option for the 4th line?
