To Toronto: Jamie Oleksiak + Carson Rehkopf + 1st & 2nd Round Draft Picks
To Seattle: Mitch Marner + 1st Round Draft Pick

Wonder if something like that could be realistic. With Beniers and Wright down the middle, it could make Rehkopf potentially available. Oleksiak will help the PK tremendously and can play either side. We move our 1st round pick up from 23 to 8 while Seattle still manages to keep a pick in the 1st round and we get a 2nd still to help replenish some draft capital.

If you 99% sure that this Rehkopf is a top 6 certainty then sure. Otherwise I'm not ok with Oleksiak as a centrepiece.

Marner and Berube out having coffee together today. Why does a new coach meet with a player, if the team is exploring trading said player? The coach doesn't make the trades...

I'm pretty sure the #8 pick is the centerpiece, with Rehkopf being a heck of a prospect and Oleksiak being the immediate return on the ice but 3rd piece in terms of trade value

In a perfect world, Rehkopf develops into a second line center. You now have Rehkopf and Minten down the middle behind Matthews. With the 8th overall pick drafting Dickinson, Iginla or Yakemchuk would be a huge boost. Oleksiak helps now and you still get a 2nd rounder.

Minten has a long ways to go before hes able to be penciled for 2C

His WHL career has the makings of a ECHL/AHL player.

He needs a big summer and strong first AHL year to get back on track

No one is penciling Minten as a 2C. Matthews - Rehkopf - Minten. He’d be your 3C, which I think is where his potential is.

If trading Marner makes this team worse somehow then maybe this entire core needs to be moved then. I swear so many other teams can move or lose a top player and not miss a beat. Boston loses their top 2 centers who were both Selke level players with 1 being a Selke winner and still beat us and we still struggle to score more than 2 goals a game. They also got nothing in return for them because they retired. So if people think us trading Marner and the package we get in return and then the 30 mil we'd have in cap space would somehow make this team worse then idk what to tell y'all. Sounds like y'all just want that to be true or something so they can come on here and complain about Tre or something.
you arent understanding what i am saying please read it again lol. I have no problem trading marner they need to get good return and not use the cap space on making the team better but signing anchors.

That is true, but unfortunately, thanks to what Shanahan has done with the contracts he has given out, this is the situation we are in. Our window to win a Cup is now down to what, 3-4 years based on Matthews' contract? Since that is the case, we can't assume a top 2 rhd who is ready to step right in and play an integral role, will fall into our lap at the next few drafts. Therefore, we are going to have to get one via free agency or by a trade. In my mind, a GM would have to be an idiot if he had a top 2 rhd and was willing to trade him for Marner, an allstar winger (regular season but not playoffs).

Would Vegas be willing to trade Barbashev (definitely a Berube type player who has played for him) and Theodore for Marner? If so, I would do it.
see this is a good take on what I said; thank you for understanding what I was trying to get at.

And what if it doesn't, what then?

We can make silly scenarios all day and go back and forth. However I'm of the opinion to make changes and to go out and try. The core has remained untouched for several years. Something has got to give IMHO.
you can read my follow up that ill be the first here to accept i was wrong and would be happy pleasantly surprised.

Rehkopf gonna be good. If we're lucky he can get better at faceoffs and become a very good power forward C. If not, he'll be a very good power forward winger.
Big body and talented but is soft. We have had enough of that.

I like Seattle but with Larsson as the centerpiece, obviously with him agreeing to an extension as Mitch would.

Big, big minutes, smart and with good mobility but can play physical, held leadership roles, 4.0 next year and he shoots right. He is 31 but if they don’t win in the next 3-4 years they never will.

Larsson, Tolvanen (3x4.25) and picks. Think of what could have been had if management did the smart thing and picked between Mitch and Willy 3-4 years ago.

It definitely not far off. You could add a 3rd from us.

Liljergren
Molendyk/l'heureux (a prospect that Calgary would definitely covet)
1st
3rd

is quite the haul.
Not really. A bottom pairing D, a 15-30 1st rounder, and a B prospect for their 1D. They don't even get Marner or Saros - just a package of meh futures.
