Less and less sellers it seems.

I think this TDL will be a big bust in terms of names moved. Hall is probably the biggest, but I can't see anyone else major.

Sounds like Dubas has his plan B lined up, so he's still working on seeing if Plan A can go through. Wonder if it's Hall, and Buffalo is holding out for a better offer or to see if any other teams ante up.
I think it just won't be favorable to the Leafs & other Canadian teams as a lot of teams will want to hold out as long as they can. American teams will likely have a big trade deadline day among themselves.

I mean that sounds perfect to me? If we walk out of this TDL with our top-4 A tier prospects still in hand and we manage to upgrade on Dermott with someone like Oleksiak, I think we're in great shape. Solve the goalie issues in the offseason.

Oh yeah Im totally fine with that scenario too. Wont see me complaining.

But I think it's paramount to replace Kerfoot in the bottom 6 with someone who's harder to play against. A depth D in case of injuries as well

I am pretty surprised... This league is so weird.

Doesn't shock me at all. Said it yesterday.

Huge cap hit, offensive defenseman who is not producing, and major liability defensively. He is a cap dump not unlike Gardiner, who also cleared earlier.

My money is on him getting dumped and Philly using the space elsewhere.

it's a bit of a surprise that nobody thought they could fix him up, but he's a bad player who makes a lot of money. It's not easy to pick someone like that up without getting rid of salary from somewhere else

Not really... he's not been great. Big price for a reclamation project.

Shows that teams are poor and the flat cap is completely removing any sort of player movement.

He's a project but he hasn't had a bad year. He's talented enough to be a producing mid-pairing defenseman. A rebuilding team should have easily claimed him.

I never thought they could fix him up. Speak for yourself. :sarcasm:

Honestly was a bit surprised at how many folks thought he'd be claimed.

He's expensive, underperforming and signed for an extra year.

Lots of teams don't have the budget room (and I'm not talking cap space) until fans are back in the building to add money like that when it's not guaranteed to pay off on the ice

He makes 4.5 mill for another 2 years. He had 12 points in 45 games last year, and has been under 0.5 PPG for three straight seasons now. His defensive game sucks so if he is under a 0.5 PPG, he is not sticking around in a lineup. Nobody is going to claim a negative-value contract. They'll either let the Flyers pay to dump him or let them buy him out (which likely happens in the offseason if they can't get Seattle to take him or something) and give him the Shattenkirk treatment.

Old GMs trying to save their jobs make this league bloody boring

Yep. And the weird mess of the season I think is exacerbating that tendency.

Seems like it may be a very quite tdl with few teams ending up wanting to make moves. Almost makes that Dubas' comment about being willing to move a top prospect from a couple weeks ago as a means of trying to shake things up

I'd imagine a team in Florida would have fans in the stands if they make the postseason so they may be more inclined to take on that contract

I just think if GMs have tighter budgets they may be less willing to gamble what available funds they have on a reclamation project

I’d really like to see the team make a play for Elvis Merzlikins.
Expansion exempt, entering his prime, signed for next year.
These injuries are really complicating things. That and the loyalty to players which is the best way to approach relationships with them, but less fun for fan conjecture.

CBJ is not looking to move him I don't think.

Still kinda surprising. He has 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points in 25 games which isn't terrible. I am not seeing a whole bunch better on a not very good Flyers team this year. Honestly haven't been watching Flyers but still surprised.

The deadline is def gonna be a bust lol.

I only see us making depth additions. Bottom 6 and Depth D-man

Pretty quiet now but I am a little more optimistic than you are. Dubas will get something done unless they seriously play poorly over the next 10 days and they decide to stand pat like they did last year after Ayres Gate.

Adding someone like Laughton...plays a good playoff style type game, rental cost should be reasonable and decent finisher...

Laughton-Matthews-Marner
Gally-JT-88
Soup-Engvall-Hyman (love it)
Thornton-Spezza-Simmonds
Kerfoot too expensive to pay $3.5M cap for 4th line FWD, maybe even too much for 3rd line given our cap structure and the discounted players that signed this last off-season.

He is moveable because his salary averages out to quite a bit lower than his cap hit.

Absolutely Leafs would not trade Marner for Laine unless they significantly add. This is why a deal for Laine to the Leafs won't happen IMO. Nylander probably not enough for them. Marner definitely too much for us.
Followed by Ovechkin, Laine's gotta be the most overrated guy in the league. Nylander is like a selke nominee in comparison to Laine's defensive play.

Would you rather the Leafs pay a premium on your #4+ favorite rental pickup to get them in with the team early & the quarantine + conditioning over with
OR
Have them wait until the TDL to get your #1-4 favorite rental pickup, but they only get 7-9 games in with the team before playoffs?

Personally I'd want them to wait to get their guy if they had to, but as soon as one of their top 3 targets become available: snag them even if it's a slight overpayment/premium.

I prefer the latter, because that's not our primary concern anyway.

We need another legitimate starting goaltender urgently.

Wonder if a team circles back around and asks for a trade with retention for a late pick. Can throw him on the taxi squad now too
