Crouse would be a good buy low target for me. Right style type, a risk/reward trade. If he doesn't start producing he's overpaid if he returns to a 25-35 point player he is underpaid.

He is more available now and not worth as much. But, could immediately show to be better than his contract in a new environment. If a trade based around Engvall + a 4th round pick for Crouse was on the table I'd probably pull.
LC is a bad idea

You end up paying for pedigree and when drafted,,he was a big boy with a touch of skill and plowed through the JRs

Now that his size + skill level are no longer a advantage he has show that he is a "not much",,,,,, but carries drafted 11th attitude and demands ,,,Nick Ritchie 2.0

I would guess the Flyers are looking to improve defensively more than adding another forward.

Laughton would be a nice get. Could be a solid top 6 winger on the big lines, or a quality third line winger. Can play centre but isn't great on the draw (similar to Kerfoot).

IMO with Kerfoot now playing with Thornton and Spezza.. It seems like he's starting to fall lower on the depth chart as he's yet to establish himself on a line. His versatility is good but he needs to find a role the Leafs can stick with.

Maybe something around Kerfoot + Dermott for Laughton + Gustafsson?

Gustafsson could be an upgrade one of the PP units and be sheltered defensively with Bogo on the third pairing.

Both are pending UFA's so they don't require expansion draft protection. I'd have to look into that more.
NOOOOO TY on ANY D man where the words "be sheltered defensively"are used

Interesting I'd wager Ferris will be pushing hard for the Leafs (if they're indeed interested in Hall). Getting the media exposure for playing with them would be a huge boost for Hall heading into free agency, especially after such subpar season so far
show me how that 8 million dollar cap hit fits

I know Hall has been underwhelming but it would still be cool to watch him with Matthews and Marner or with Tavares and Nylander.

Bergeron calls check. Your move Kyle.
Lol. If you think a team 3 spots below us adding a 4th line center is putting us in check.........

He is okay depth. I don’t love his fit as the 4th line center there but I do think he is someone they will be happy to have if one of their top 3 guys get hurt

A decent trade for the Habs with 50% retention, even though Staal has been pretty lousy this year.

Sabres definitely aren't getting prime value for their assets it seems

The more I watch this team play and look at who might be available, I think adding a Laughton / Iafallo, a cheap trigger man to play with Matthews and Marner such as Bobby Ryan, and a depth defenseman like Mike Reilly might be all this team needs. Let Zack Hyman run his own line and play him at center. He's serviceable in the faceoff circle and he can play anywhere on the ice, as he's proven. Excellent 200ft player.

Hear me out...

To Toronto
Alex Iafallo or Scott Laughton (retained)

To LA or Philly
Ronnie Hivonen or Filip Hallander
2nd / 3rd round pick

To Toronto
Mike Reilly

To Ottawa
Travis Dermott

To Toronto
Bobby Ryan

To Detroit
Depth pick or prospect

2021 Playoff Leafs

Ryan / Matthews / Marner
Mikheyev / Tavares / Nylander
Laughton or Iafallo / Hyman / Simmonds
Kerfoot / Engvall / Spezza
Thornton
Galchenyuk

Reilly / Brodie
Muzzin / Holl
Reilly / Bogosian
Liljegren

Campbell
Anderson

I think that puts you in pretty quality contention, without moving any of your top 5 prospects (Sandin, Liljegren, Robertson, Amirov, Niemela) or any 1st round picks.

Thoughts?
Total pass on Hyman playing C ,,he has like 0 experience there in the NHL

pass on Ryan ,,i don't get the playoff player vibe off of him

you have rielly playing 1rst and 3rd pair

50% retained and Kerfoot goes the other way. The remaining 500k is covered by accumulated cap space.

I’m not suggesting this, saying it is feasible, or that I think it will happen. Just doing as the poster I quoted asked and showing how the cap hit could fit.

This just shows it’s a buyers market with retention for a 3 5 and and C to boot!

Did NOT want Staal.
Kyle will get a haul.

I don't like the narrative that we can't score at times or our team cant fight thru that is just false, tight games are going to happen. The team has to be able to win 3-2, 2-0 games at times that is the reality it has been like that for a long time. Leafs have been shutout once this season and have scored 1 goal 3 times so far in 33 games, Leafs don't need to fight thru and score more goals they need to be able to lock it down if they want to win. All teams have to if they want to win.

Tampa Bay just last year played games like:
1st round vs CBJ: 2-1, 3-2, 1-3, 3-2
2nd rough vs BOS: 3-2, 3-1, 2-3
3rd round vs NYI: 2-1, 2-1, 1-2
4th round vs Stars: 3-2, 2-3, 2-0

There were also a bunch of high-scoring games and blowouts, but points remain, you need to be able to lock it down and win lower-scoring games.

50% brings it down to $4m?

we have $500k space atm

They accumulate cap space every day, so they can wait a bit longer; they can involve a 3rd team in the deal for retention purposes (media reports have suggested the Leafs are already talking to teams about doing that), then can manuver guys around the taxi squad for extra room and they can also move out a body from the roster if need be.

Lmao it’s not exactly prime staal

He has 10 points

The Habs also are not close to us in the standings. So their moves shouldn’t impact ours.

Not surprising with that user. He thinks every move by someone else is a negative on Dubas.

Wonder what we can get for Spezza, Brodie, Muzzin, Campbell, etc.

Habs acquiring Staal has put us in a no win position. Habs will rise the rest of the way.

Dubas sitting on his hands while other teams add.

Bet Dubas went to Masai’s “how to mishandle a trade deadline in 2021” course.

SAD!

Meh. I’d don’t hate that value but I want whoever we bring in to be better than Staal is at this point in his career
put ES top 6 LW and i think he would shine and he would not be a terrible emergency 2nd C

way better and more experienced in that role compered to Kerf/willi/gally/Eng

answer me this

who is our 2nd C IF one of the big 2 is out? When in the POs , i want that answer to be ES

a top 6 of

Sims/Matty/Mitch
Hyman/Staal/Willi ,,,

stands a chance of surviving the hit

The deepest team in the league just got deeper. They are gonna cause Tampa fits in the finals.

Think it's time to sell. Habs called check on Eric Staal. We're done.
