Be interested to see what happens now.

There is a scenario where the Leafs could move both Kerfoot and Engvall (in separate deals), and leverage Sandin, the 2024 1st, and some additional prospect capital to bring in a legit top 6 winger.

That would be an insane amount of roster turn over that I don't think needs to happen? Add to the team, make a cap move... sure... but don't think they need to go out and get another 2-3 big adds. They've already added 2 big upgrades and 2 good depth players.

I'd expect a cap level move here at most. Dubas will talk in about an hour.

Seravelli connecting Kerfoot to Vancouver.
I know there's been a long standing belief Vancouver likes Kerfoot, doesn't make sense to me that they would give up anything for a UFA right now but on the other hand it's the Canucks.. so who knows.

Seattle has been attached to Kerfoot in the past and are in a position to buy while having some pick surplus. I could see a fit there.

I feel relatively certain at this point Dubas has an extension in place. Why in the hell would MLSE let a guy trade away multiple 1sts and other assets just to have potentially a new voice controlling things come summer.

MLSE and Shanahan aren't Edmonton letting Chia tank the future with awful trades before getting fired.

I think from opening night until now, we've potentially changed 20% of the roster.

Which is often the case. There was a thread before the start of the season, asking if this roster was good enough to win in the playoffs. I recall posting that typically there was a 25% turnover before we get to the playoffs, so what the opening night roster is, isn't of much relevance.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Malgin
Engvall-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok
AstonReese-Kampf-AubeKubel

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Giordano-Sandin

It seems probable that one more defender listed, and two forwards listed, won't be in our starting lineup once the playoffs start. So that's six of 18 that will have changed.... so a third of the skaters.

Now the million dollar question:

Is Dubas done? Is this the team we are going to the playoffs with?

He's talking soon to the media. I would assume the Leafs are pretty much done making a splash.

Sounds like they will have to make a cap move. I would likely expect minor league moves with maybe a depth level move from now on. We'll see.

Vancouver could be a broker where they take on Kerfoot at full value, retain 50% then flip him to a playoff squad for assets. Of course, the Leafs would have to accept minimum value in this scenario, likely a conditional late round pick or everyone's favourite 'future considerations'.

Seems odd for the Leafs to do that when we can retain almost 50% and have more than enough cap space to bring Murray back while getting whatever assets VAN would get.

It is not like we'd need the cap space for anything else.

Retention on Kerfoot isn't even worth much anyways. Maybe a 6th. So VAN can have a 6th if they want to be a middle-man. We will take full value.

Is this true? I'm seeing different reports regarding cap so I don't know what to believe.

CapFriendly says the Leafs have 2.7 mill in deadline space. We are operating in LTIR so open up another 2 mill and you have Murray without sending Woll down and opening up another 767k.

So moving any of Kerfoot, Holl, or Engvall is enough. Can't trade Holl or Engvall with retention, but you can with Kerfoot.

We have been linked to Hoglander in the past I could see us taking him on in a Kerfoot deal

That would be a heck of a deal. I refuse to believe it's possible.

Marlies could use a boost too after losing a couple good players.

Perhaps Vancouver is interested in signing Kerfoot, so maybe a trade hinges on an extension
Option A- Van shakes us down for a pick in a cap dump
Option B- Van likes Kerfoot and wants to re-sign, Kerfoot for future considerations, we trade negotiating rights for cap space
Option C-Van likes Kerfoot so much that they want to pre-negotiate an extension and give us a 3rd in the deal

C is awesome yet super unlikely, B and A are practically the same thing though it would be nice to hold onto the pick

Lets goooooo. Amazign trade Dubas. Love Lafferty and McCabe. Big, fast, skilled and physical. Needed this against Tampa.

Now lets trade Kerfoot
