Both Acciari and Hathaway are 31 year old pending UFA and potential rentals.

Jeannot is a 25 year old pending RFA currently making $800k and will be signed to a long-term cost controllable contract. If TB signed him for 6 years he would be Accari/Hathaway age at completion.

The first 2 players are all about THIS playoff year, while the TB situation is a long-term play over many playoffs (once re-signed).
So what.

Islanders got Bo Horvat for less and how old is Bo? Turning 28 this April.

It is a horrible deal, since Jeannot is not the difference for TB between winning and losing the Cup this season.

Any GMs would rather have ROR and Acciari than Jeannot for the same package.
If Tampa got ROR and Acciari and Dubas managed to get Jeannot for the same price, nobody here would be saying Jeannot is worth the assets, he is a RFA, or TB needs to watch out bc we got a wreaking ball power forward.

If you trade away your draft picks and win multiple Stanley Cups or make the SCF in the process then does the end justify the means ? :wg:

Only 1 team will win it this year, so every other team that makes a move for this year are in the same boat.

Of course if the player traded for, whether RFA or UFA, is signed then is it a rental? Even a RFA can be unsigned.

I don't know ... Leafs have really sucked in the playoffs since drafting Quinn left.

And recently, they're just warm up teams for others.

But the big tough guy wears one anyway, hoping it won’t get knocked off.
46.6:

Helmets - No player may remove his helmet prior to engaging in a fight. If he should do so, he shall be assessed a two minute minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Helmets that come off in the course of and resulting from the altercation will not result in a penalty to either player.

Just a different philosophy, for a Team at a different stage than the Leafs.
They will continue to go all in while a playoff Team. Once the standings dictate they are no longer relevant I'm sure they will strip it all down.
Seems pretty easy to understand, doesn't it?

I hear that there's this really big kid in Arizona who is a fearsome fighter who hits everything that moves and also takes a lot of bad penalties. He's also in his mid 20's, and averages .6 ppg for his career - better than Jeannot actually. Maybe we should trade a draft class for him!;)
Funny enough, there is a kid in Anaheim, who seems to be available, also hits, fights, nuts isn’t as prolific, but has a higher career PPG, and would be far cheaper.

Shoulda traded Nylander for him when we had the chance

Sorry, I will disagree on this.

Our 4th line has looked really good because of Acciari, not Kerfoot. Seeing Acciari hustling has gotten ZAR going too, as opposed to being the only one on the line. Kerfoot doesn't bring anything to that line that McMann can't, and taking $3.5 in Cap space that could be used to bring in another player.

Kerfoot has the motor and brings the effort, but is completely out of place on a checking line. He's repeatedly shown he doesn't belong in our Top 6. If he can't fit onto whatever our 3rd line is, he needs to be traded and bring whatever return we can get, rather than lose him for nothing as a UFA. This is not an "own rental" scenario that makes any sense, considering how few picks we have remaining and what more picks may be depleted should we make another trade before the Deadline.

The question needs to be asked which between Engvall or Kerfoot fits a 3rd line role best for the playoffs? I don't think either is really great to be honest, but the one of them definitely needs to be dealt by the TDL.
I’d keep Engvall over Kerfoot because of how effective he is from the D-zone, especially with zone exits. Having the 2 of them in the bottom 6 does make it softer than it should be though.

Acciari is definitely the difference maker on that 4th line, but the grass isn’t always greener if you were to swap a guy out for Kerfoot; it might not work while what they have right now does. Don’t think they have a great need to fix what finally isn’t broken, even though it can theoretically be improved. While McMann bring some of what Kerfoot does not, I think it’s wrong to say that Kerfoot doesn’t bring anything to the lineup that McMann can’t; there’s somethings Kerfoot does better for sure.

You’d be removing a guy from the room which isn’t ideal, but he’s definitely expendable but still valuable to the Leafs without clear upgraded replacement(s). Think it would have made more sense to deal him in the off-season opposed to now, but it can still be done I guess.

Whatever they’d bring in they’re gonna have to pay up to get. Comes down to who they’d bring in, what Kerfoot can actually fetch, & running the risk that the new look 4th line may not actually work as well as they hope.

They really should try McMann on that 4th line or another combination to see what they have first IMO.

Leafs should respond with a Luke Schenn addition so Leaf Nation can sleep a little more peaceful . :)

Gotta say, thats a funny fight. Luke is big and plenty willing but not a good fighter - so after eating 5 or 6 rights he's just like, nope, bad idea and throws him down.

Ken Holland oughtta be tried at The Hague for wasting McDavid and Draisaitl’s primes. I’ve no love for Edmonton or their fans but Jesus how can you justify doing nothing but menial moves?

Schenn as big as he is has always been an awful fighter. I do like that he’s always willing to throw down but ma you’d think he’d have taken a boxing lesson at some point.

Yep, the same reason why now is the time the Leafs are spending currency to bring in better assets.

These transactions have no bearing on last year or the year before. So winning the Cup in a previous year doesn't make overpaying in this current year not overpaying.
Winning in the past makes it easier to spend. People will excuse mistakes much easier if you've proven in the past that it's worked.
Continual failure makes every years mistakes that much worse.

Mrazek trade we gave up the 25th and got back the 38th, where we got Minten who by the sound of it we would have likely taken at 25th.
I don't follow prospects so I have no idea of where Minten was thought to go but this always seemed a little too convenient to me.

How many fights do you think we have in the playoffs? Based on what I'm seeing, there were only 9 playoff fights in total across all series last post season. It's a good secondary skill but not what I'd want to shell out 5 picks for. (and obviously Jeannot does more than just fight)
