Lowball offer for Dubnyk?

Might do well with a new goalie coach and a better team infront of him.. he's got potential.. I think, change a scenery with a contender might be a huge boost.. or might not.. Andersen isn't getting a raise here..

Three way deal,
To Toronto: Nick Foligno (50% retained x2)
To Columbus: Pierre Engvall + 2nd Round Draft Pick TOR 2021
To Chicago: 4th around Draft Pick TOR 2022

Then,
To Toronto: Luke Glendening (50% retained)
To Detroit: Jimmy Vesey + Denis Malgin

Foligno - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Hyman
Thornton - Kerfoot - Mikheyev
Glendening - Spezza - Simmonds

Over forsberg? Is it the grit factor or the fact that the price wouldnt be nearly as steep?

I like the toughness, character, the two-way play (he's one of Columbus' top penalty killers) and the fact he'd be cheaper to acquire. Acquiring Forsberg would cause some complications with expansion protection. In a non-expansion year I would be all over acquiring a Forsberg or Rakell.

I wish the Leafs would take a run at him.
He's an elite goalie on a terrible team and he would do great here
With Campbell hurt how can they make it work with the quarantine? Hutchinson shouldn’t play at all let alone all games for a few weeks.

Im not sure why people are so interested in Gibson. Guy hasnt been good for the past 2 seasons. How is he any different than Andersen. Better the devil you know. That way you dont need to spend a ton of assets aquiring him and being stuck with his cap ht the next 7 seasons.

Gibson is not the answer.

I agree Andersen has slipped, but is it due to his supposed injury, or has he just lost a step?

There have to be other options out there for us that would be cheaper to acquire (asset wise) and with a better cap hit.

I don't think we're going to see any changes in net. I think the hope is Campbell and Hutch carry the load if/when Andersen goes down again, and we bulk up on a high quality rental to make a push.

realistic goalie options....

Raanta, Hill
Ullmark (if he can come back from injury)
Rittich
Korpisalo, Merzlikins
Khodobin
Bernier
Georgiev
Dubnyk
Holtby
Fleury, Lehner

Now, not all are upgrades. Some are more available than others.

IMO, out of those goalies, Id target one from Columbus.
Fleury would be the next best option.
And last but not least, Raanta. He's a wildcard for me. Like to see him play to his potential and share the duties with Campbell moving forward.

I agree. I don't see us adding a game-changer goalie. I could see us, however, adding someone like Dubnyk for cheap at the deadline if our goaltending hasn't been sorted out, aka Andersen or Campbell have not fully recuperated and gotten back to their former selves.

What is chicago doing to get a 4th?

I assume they are to retain a second time on Folignos contract after Columbus did as well? No? Is that even possible?

Yes, it happened last year with Lehner. Chicago retained 50% then traded him to us, we retained 44% of the remaining hit before sending him to Vegas. Pittsburgh/Chicago did it with Scuderi as well.

I'd rather use Chicago to retain Forsberg though.

That's not how it worked.

Chicago retained 50% of 5M, so 2.5M

We retained 44% of that 2.5M, which was 1.1M.

A salary can only be retained to a maximum of 50%.

What is chicago doing to get a 4th?
They have about 22 million in cap space due to all their LTIR. They would be retaining another 50% of Foligno’s contract on top of the original 50% Columbus would be retaining. That way we get to even keep Kerfoot for the remainder of the season and deal with any cap issues in the off-season.

Interesting that I heard whispers a few weeks ago that Dubas was shopping Kerfoot around the league and was targeting Iafallo. Today in the Athletic, Siegel / Mirtle have him listed as Dubas's number 1 target. I think there is something there.

To upgrade Anderson, we need to find a goalie that is a clear upgrade, with the same or less salary, and the team has to be willing to trade him. That narrows the list quite substantially. In fact, are there any goalies that fit these parameters?

Its true that Anderson hasn't performed well enough this season. It isn't true Anderson has been the problem in the playoffs; he has been a .922 and .936 in the last two playoffs respectively.

Every goalie has tough seasons, and Frederik Andersen is clearly no exception. I think the right move would be to "buy low" and resign him in the off-season unless his playoffs are disastrous.

Clearly the best option. Offer Andersen something like 3.5m-4m on a 3 year deal, after the expansion draft so we can keep Campbell. If he takes it, great. If not, move on.

This is one of the few things we see eye to eye on. Gibson's play and stock has slipped noticeably the past 2 seasons. He's not worth his contract given his current play. I would avoid avoid avoid.

I would look at Ullmark who has some very nice numbers behind that Sabre D. A hot hand is what is needed.....Binnington was the hot hand 2 seasons back.
