Rumor: Trade Thread XVI: Callahan looking for $6.85M+ AAV?

Id like to see what adam graves would say about that. Something tells me he looks at callahan a little differently then some of ya'lls do
 
5 years 30 mil I think would be groundbreaking, the largest AAV for a forward who had never hit 30 goals.

Show me the 7 or 8 forwards in the team he's better than

Because I can think of Moore Boyle Carcillo and maybe MaYBE pouliot

Every other forward on the team is better or at worst arguably better

That's a joke for a 6 million dollar player
 
Callahan is still substantially more valuable a forward than Hagelin, Brassard, and maybe Richards.

Too much hyperbole going on.
 
With JD in town wonder if Columbus was the team that was granted access?

Also...Kesler talk on the trade board. While I like what Stewart brings to the table and I am a firm believer in having a raw physical player that can't play top 6 I do like the idea of Kesler better. I haven't seen it rumored anywhere but only discussed here. Rangers would of course need to add. Steps and Kesler as your top 2 centers is very respectable.

Sorry, I don't buy the team getting stale bit. How many times over the last few years have we watched this team play with zero compete level, and that was with Callahan at the helm. I love what he brings to the table as a player, but this is a guy who was a major part of a team that got two coaches fired because the team was mailing it in on a nightly basis.

Last few years? Do you mean last and this year. BC in 2011-2012 they were on nearly every game. Major generalization there. This board freaking sucks. Some of the mods are terrible in their assessment. Do they need to be fans of the team, is there criteria to hold the position? Even with renney, you think he was fired bc the team didn't compete??? You didn't watch. They wanted a coach that would bring out even more of the compete level, bc the team played its best when they were going hard and heavy and rennet was a laid back low key good man. This is a joke
 
Wonder if contract talks are affecting Callahan's game. This whole thread seems earily similar to the discussion on Lundqvist. "He's on the decline," "Can't let emotion be involved," "Struggling with AVs style," "Better fit with Torts," "Trade him," "Discounts," "No cup! No playoffs success." It's all becoming a bit of a broken record. I hope this get's sorted out soon...
 
Posted this in last nights PGT. With our 4th line playing pretty well, what happens when Dorsett comes back? Do we try and shop him, or one of Boyle/Moore? Think a 4th line of Dorsett-Moore/Boyle-Carcillo would be pretty effective.

Could potentially package Cally/Boyle for a team looking to sure up some depth.
 
I love Callahan, but his extreme physical game has definitely taken a toll on his body. He's simply not the same player today than a couple years ago. He's still young, but he can't keep that intensity up forever. However, I have loved watching him take runs at players like Chara. :laugh:

Is Callahan playing hurt, or is he just being a lot more cautious?

Oh please. 11-12 was the exception to the rule. That team had a coach that beat the effort into them night after night, and after one successful season, they flopped and then got their coach fired. I love whenever someone questions the battle level of the team, some self proclaimed superfan comes in and starts rattling on about the 11-12 season. A season where we barely beat two inferior teams in 7 game series only to get bounced by another weak team in the ECF. A season where had we not had a hot start, we would have been a bubble team AGAIN.

So the team competed under Renny, but they fired him because they wanted MORE compete level? How does that make any sense. :laugh:

Joke's on you. Get a clue.
 
Callahan to Vancouver, a reunion with Tortorella, makes sense, I suppose. Win-win.

Nash, Kreider, Zucc and Stepan are better than Callahan in my opinion, and Kreider and Zucc have been playing at their current level for a about half of a season while Callahan has been at his level for years. To me, Richards is playing better right now but he is not a better player overall. He's entirely one dimensional and he's on and off in that one dimension. Brassard is the same deal, and he's hot right now as well. Hagelin isn't even arguable in my opinion. Callahan has just as many points this year, is a better power play player and a better defensive player.

6 is more than he deserves in absolutely ideal circumstances, but I could live with it for 5 years. 7 years is crazy. Callahan wants the team to meet him at dollars and years, both of which are too high. That's not going to happen.

That would be ideal depending on what they'd need to add.
 
Callahan doesn't have to do anything. Sather can't police any conversations between Bartlett and the other teams. Sather gave them permission. A team can easily tell Bartlett that they would be willing to meet the 7 year and $6M plus asking price in July without giving the Rangers assets. In MLB,a team will give another team permission to discuss contract with the player only after the teams have agreed on trade compensation. They request a 72 hour window from the MLB commissioner's office. Johan Santana, Curt Schilling. Buffalo could be willing to give Callahan $7M per for 7 years in the summer and they don't want to trade assets for him. Just because the Rangers want Callahan to sign a contract with another team so they get more in the trade doesn't mean Bartlett/Callahan have to play along. They play out the year wherever that is and they negotiate the contract in July.

Possible. But the more likely scenario is that Callahan has a list of teams he likes. Teams will be pitching him like they would July 1. If Buffalo doesn't want to trade assets that's fine, another team will.

Oh please man. Get a clue yourself. The Rangers were playing tough hard hockey dating back back to at least the beginning of 2010-2011. Don't try calling me a super fan and playing me like that. I know Ive watched, I know what Im talking about.

THat is exactly why they fired Renney, I think there are direct quotes stating they wanted a coach who would help bring that out in the entire team more consistently. Callahan, Dubinsky, Staal, Girardi, those 4 guys and Hank were almost solely responsible for the Rangers even being competitive, and the FO decided they needed a coach who would demand it from the rest of the team.

Seriously, can we have some honestly here. That is what those guys were bringing. And the rest of the team needed to match it, so Renney was let go and they brought in torts.


Additionally those two inferior teams A) one of them washington had just beaten the #2 seed boston in &, and B) the senators, with nearly the same time wiped the floor with the #2 seed Canadians. Those teams weren't bad teams. You want to talk about trendy. Its trendy to say the 2011-12 team was bad bc they had difficulty in a playoff series (which they end up winning) against teams that were better than anyone gives credit to. You want to say that style is unsustainable, I'd admit the rangers didn't have enough in the tank when it came time to the devil series. I'm honest man, I'm not saying what I'm saying simply bc it sounds good. It's the truth.
