Move him and be done with it. He doesn't want to be here. If he wants to live out his hockey days on a sub par team like Clarkson, go ahead. Put a $ on your jersey instead of a C.
Its getting beyond that. Its starting to get ugly.
Whenever the conversation devolves into "Well you paid all these guys, so you should pay my guy too," you're in trouble.

Ridiculous. Everyone needs to find a villain when, in this scenario, there isnt one.
I think Sather may actually be learning from his past mistakes by not giving Callahan the 7 years. So many long-term contracts have not worked out for the Rangers and Callahan's durability is a major concern. I understand why Cally feels slighted, but just because Sather has shelled out some bad contracts to free agents in the past doesn't mean that Sather should repeat the same mistake and overpay Callahan.
This cost of living thing is overblown. What about the opportunities to make millions of dollars on Madison Avenue if you're a popular Ranger? NY is a big place and the cost of living varies depending on the choice the player makes.
The Rangers know the player better than the rest of the league I think rightfully so they are looking to limit term since his CarFax has alot of dings and his performance just doesn't rise to the level of salary that he's asking for. The Rangers should want to keep him but I like that they are showing some discipline on the terms.
Not really. Not to throw you into this generalization or direct it at you but most who say that it is overblown have not spent any significant time outside of NYC. Outside of the northeast and California, the vast majority of the country is significantly cheaper. My taxes in Georgia or Virginia are a fraction of what they were in NY. My pay is slightly less but the cost of living is significantly less. It is a factor.
Why would Callahan agree to an extension with another team unless they gave him what he wanted?

Callahan can speak with all of the teams in July.
Its the Rangers who want closure by the end of this week. The other camp will wait until the summer.
Sather will have to trade him as a rental.
Sather was in the same spot in 2011. He wanted to trade for Richards but Dallas wanted too much. Sather got him as a free agent and kept his assets. Richards had a no trade/no move so he controlled the situation while Callahan doesn't but Sather didn't want to meet Nieuwendyk's asking price.
The Super Bowl is over.
If we re-sign Girardi
Then I hope we strongly consider moving Staal while he's actually healthy & playing well.
Kind of intriguing idea to consider comparing players to vehicles.
Cally strikes me as a jeep grand Cherokee
I know it is expensive to live hear in a general sense. But there are also many ways for a professional athlete to supplement their income to make up the difference.
at this point I don't really care who he plays for, I just want the guy off the team. His heart is clearly not here, regardless of his media ploys. If his heart was here, and he gave a **** about this team, he'd be asking for NO MORE than Dustin Brown $$$.
We're not paying him, and now other teams see him as a rental (more and more every day as well). Trade the guy now...
As for his value, the Isles aren't making the playoffs. Do they see Callahan as a piece of the future? Does Vanek fit into future of NYR? If yes on both, why not?
Umm no, I hope we keep both. Staal has always been the difference for this team. When he is healthy this team plays that much better. He starts shutting down forwards with his size and long reach. He gets more involved in the offense; saw it in the Islanders game friday. When Staal came back in 2011-2012 the team started to pick it up and in the playoffs that year he was very good. Last year the team was playing very well and then when he went down after getting hit in the eye, the team wasn't as consistent even with DZ playing well while he was out. Right now, this team is playing well and Staal is a large part of it. He should be here for a long time.
