You would think that the thought of re-signing a top RH defenseman on a LHD heavy team, in his off-year, who still manages 50%+ on ice Corsi against the toughest competition in the league would excite the fans.

Guess not.

Girardi is the most under-appreciated player on the team. I just don't understand it.

I find it funny that AV mentioned 4 magic words: "Free Flowing" and "Red Wings". this board all of sudden think that players that fit that system are easily found. Show me how you can get a Zetterberg, a Datsyuk and a coach who has succeffully run this system like Babcock and I am on board. Truth is, that it is not easy to run that kind of system and win. Proof is in the playoffs. You gotta have a more complete team to win. AV has never ran such system. So while some of you want to tank/rebuild/retool in search of such utopia, odds are it won't happen overnight if it happens at all.

Pyatt to PIT for Jussi Jokinen?

Oh.. wait

Said it before and I'll say it again now.. Should've picked him up off waivers. Glen is a moron. Guy's been torching us non stop.

I could be wrong, but weren't the Rangers ahead of the Penguins in the standings when Jussi was claimed? Rangers may never have had the chance.

If Girardi is signed, Sather will not have learned anything. That's a 100% green light signal that he still believes in the core. This team will continue to be mediocre, and we'll have more of these fun losses for the next 5 years.

Don't resign him. Don't resign Callahan.

How long have you followed this team?

Look at the game last night, what do we achieve by dealing Girardi for a roster player and a pick?

I am so tired of hearing stuff like this:

-People who want to resign Girardi think the team we have now can win the cup.

-People who want to resign Girardi don't want change.

-People who want to resign Girardi hasn't learned anything. They think we are good enough.

Sure, deal him if it really gives you a core piece or two that can help you turn this around. But to get like another Skjei and a Danny Fritche II will hardly fix any flaw we have while we open up a big hole in the lineup. Another big hole.

What does signing Girardi to a 6-7 year contract achieve? Did you watch the game last night? Lets sign Callahan to another 7 year contract too. How does the team come out flat against a devision rival? That can't be all on the coach. The leadership of the team takes a hit here. Don't bother us tonight because we spent a great few days in Florida on the beach and on the water. Brad Richards looked overmatched. No goals in 12 games. He has 4 assists in those 12 games. Staal wasn't much better. Three of these guys have letter on their sweater. Girardi is right there with them. Why continue to reward mediocrity?

The entire team is a big hole.

I'm tired of ******** efforts like last night. Tired. Very tired.

So, I'll state it again, as a Girardi for Franson+pick trade was proposed again on the main boards. I WILL ****ING VOMIT IF WE DO THAT. Girardi is at least a good #3 defender. Franson is NOT a defender (well I guess he is, but you know what I mean). He's a PP specialist who will screw up at least 2 or 3 times a game. The Winter Classic was not an outlier, it was the perfect example. He will make DZ and JM look good.
Girardi is by a fair margin the best defender this UFA class. He isn't 30 yet. The price for acquiring Girardi is a 1st and a prospect who has a realistic shot at becoming a Top-6er or a Top-4 defender, or a young (25 and under) 2nd/3rd line tweener with upside and a mid round pick (or whatever equivalent offer someone can come up with). Otherwise I want Sather to walk away. Cody Franson my ass. Girardi is a player who can push a team like ANA or SJ from "they'll probably lose to CHI or LA" to "well, they have a good shot at beating those teams". There could very well be a bidding war in the West. Perhaps even some Eastern team is stupid enough to think they could challenge PIT/BOS.
As for Callahan, I want to get something back close to what BUF got from MIn for Pominville.
That is all. Please stop undervaluing our assets. Thanks.

It will be a sad day when we see Girardi and Callahan go. A team that had chemistry like we've never seen it before two years ago was dismantled by this buffoon named Glen Sather.

This team is struggling and they need a major shake up to get this going in the right direction. Not sure if this was posted but found on twitter...

#NYR record after 42 games:

Tortorella (first season): 20-17-5
Vigneault: 20-20-2

Only a 3 point difference. Maybe we shouldn't be pressing the panic button this quick?

HFBoards Gold: Rangers lose 5-2, Stralman and Staal are each -3 and people don't want to sign Girardi. That makes sense.

Good lord.

Girardi and McD are our two best defenders. Period. You trade away a guy like Danny G for a 1st or a 1st and a 3rd or whatever and our D is going to get WORSE.

Girardi, and his efforts, aren't the problem. Nash is lazy. Richards is looking shot again. Stepan has regressed. If those three guys aren't noticeable, in a good way, this team has no chance. All credit to Zuccarello (love the guy) but he CAN'T be your best forward if you've got other guys making 5x and 6x his salary.

Thank you RB, but we're right there for the 8th seed and hey anything can happen!:sarcasm:

Good post. They should raise Zuccarello's salary :sarcasm:

I agree with you, but it isn't quite that simple regarding Girardi. Yes he is our 2nd best dman and no we don't have anyone ready to replace him, but we can't just look at this year or next year. Will he still be the same guy even 3 years from now?

No matter what we do, it's a risk. Sign him long term and he breaks down, we're stuck with a bad contract and a hole in our lineup. Trade him and we struggle to replace him and we'll wish we had him back. I'm not gonna say I know which way the Rangers should decide, but they do need to decide, and soon.

What's your point? That in 2-3 years this team could maybe scrape together a very good season just to be meddled with again? That's not how the vigneault signing was sold, like every coach he was sold as the guy to get the team to the next level.

I'm sick of sather hitting the rewind button on progress and people being ok with it. What a crock

Yup, lots of backtracking now. When Sather hired AV, his intention was for this team to be a cup contender and score more goals. The idea wasn't to take a step back and "be patient, it may take a few years to find players for AV's system."

Once again the organization misjudges the capabilities of the players on the roster and will have to fly by the seat of their pants because they don't have a plan. Every time there is a coaching change, the coach realizes the players suck and the roster has to be overhauled. This doesn't happen to the well-run organizations in the league - LA, Chicago, and St. Louis saw immediate positive results when they switched coaches because they already had a solid core in place. I'm sick of this organization doing everything ass backwards.

Girardi is the most under-appreciated player on the team. I just don't understand it.

same i dont understand why he should even be considered to be moved.. id move almost half the team before i moved him..

realistically were only looking at MDZ maybe Brass being traded other then that i doubt we move something to our core

Coaching staff deserves all the blame as well.. and its not jjust 1 or 2 players its a team effort.. look at the team we played last night ****en crosby and a bunch of rooks and jusi who could only be traded bc his salary was retained.. i dislike our entire coaching staff, its a complete joke.. no emotion, terrible personnel decisions, and its there job to get everyone on the same page to play like a team.. hockey is prob one sport that it takes an entire team to win games regardless of elite talent and superstars..even they cant do it on their own..

this team has won multiple playoff rounds won the past couple years, why do we blow it up? i agree with a lot of what you said.. but girardi is a warrior and there is noway i would let him walk.. AV's job is to lead this team and do whatever it takes with your personnel to win games..same thing with MDZ, how can the kid nearly score 35-40+ pts in his first 4 years and now all of a sudden suck ass.. a coach should be there for his player encourage and get his ass in gear to play hard and win games..

i hate the excuses he always says.. we need better from everyone, dudes a joke and i think the only reason he won is bc of the twins and kessler in van... hes not a good coach, rode the talent he had, and it his job to have his player buy in, which i dont think they have and thats why we're playing like we dont give a ****.. starts from the top down..

I agree . At least Torts gave a damn and he showed it. I hate this NYR team and the leaders are not real leaders
