Dreger was just on NHLN to say that the Rangers have had talks about re-signing Girardi and it's possible a deal could be done before the Olympic break.

We're going for it!

8 years, $7M per year, full NMC. Here it comes. :shakehead

If it's a shorter deal (4-5 years), I think $5M could work.

The thing is, Girardi doesn't fit AV's system, so...

I don't mind re-signing Girardi. Prefer keeping him to Callahan.

Trade Nash for a pile of dog ****. At least that we can throw out and be done with. It won't eat up 7.8 mil for the next bunch of years and occupy a spot in the lineup.

Does anyone on the team fit into his system?

McD and Zucc? And nobody else?

I don't think anyone really knows at this point who fits AV's "system"

He was supposedly brought in to play an up tempo, puck moving and puck possession style yet our best PMD is healthy and not playing

Agree, I'd rather have G then Cally at this point. I don't know what Cally does off the ice, but as far as on ice product goes. I think I would rather lose Cally. We play a 1/4 of the season without him anyway.

I think that's a combination of 1. Him not playing that well throughout the season and 2. AV not being too keen on him as a player.

Stepan is not playing particularly well, Kreider doesnt even play in close games.

Miller is scratched, J Moore also gets scratched or given 3rd pairing minutes...

They carry the puck and make plays with it. AV wants a transition game, more up tempo. These players can make that system work. Players we can build around if we want to utilize this system.

Girardi doesn't seem to fit the bill. Not that great of a skater. Nit the best first pass. Another player is Boyle. Very slow skater.

Just my take on it.

I'm expecting 5x5 for Girardi, and I'd be more than happy with that contract.

5x5 I could deal with. Would take him to 35 and if he can play 20-25 minutes a night, 5M per for a 1st pair D man is good.

The thing is, if we keep Girardi, I have a feeling Callahan stays too. I always though Girardi was going to be traded and Callahan would be kept.

The Rangers missed their chance. Even the 11-12 team was average. They looked like a bubble team for most of the season but had a great start to the year. Barely made it to the ECF. Took 7 games to beat two "lesser" teams. They should have taken a step back in the middle of the decade in order to take a big step forward. If they had been able to draft talent to build around, this would have been an elite team. A couple elite players supplemented by guys like Dubinsky, Callahan, Anisimov, Hagelin, etc.

Sather can't help himself. He loves to make the big splash. How many awful FA signings has he made? How many terrible trades? Now we're locked into a mammoth deal for Lundqvist, a huge deal for Nash, and he's bumbled his way into an excuse to "go for it" every year even though the team is poorly built; It doesn't compete, lacks physicality, and lacks skill.

What a joke. :shakehead

A guy who plays hard minutes and a taxing style is going to take less than 7 years? Not a chance. Retirement contract.

We'll see. Girardi is likely loyal to us, given that he was an undrafted free agent and we gave him a lot of time to become what he is today.

He's also perfectly healthy. Guy's an ironman.

You would think that the thought of re-signing a top RH defenseman on a LHD heavy team, in his off-year, who still manages 50%+ on ice Corsi against the toughest competition in the league would excite the fans.

Guess not.

Curious: Has he even missed any games?
