They're not rebuilding. They could re-tool, though. This core has run its course, in my opinion. Lundqvist wasn't going to be the casualty. He is the face of the franchise and the first half of his career has been HOF caliber. Callahan and Girardi are nowhere near that level. Whats the sense in overpaying them? Turn the page.

Recoup some assets that fit the speed and skill mold. Dont ****ing change course after 2 or 3 years. Pick something and stick with it.

Retooling doesn't work. The worst thing to be in the NHL is a mediocre team. Either trade everyone that is in their prime years and get bad so you can pick up some young pieces and high draft picks or you leave everything in place. I don't think retooling ever works. Retooling sets franchises back a few yeas.

MDZ for John Mitchell, Nate Guenin, and Marc-Andre Cliche :naughty:

Best name in hockey. Better than Cal Clutterbuck or Grant Clitsome.

On Barrie - at this point, Rangers need to get whatever they can for DZ before his value plunges even more.

Theyve been very mediocre with Callahan and Girardi being integral parts of the core for several years. Seems like you are arguing for continued mediocrity.

In some extent we have to rebuild, retool or whatever you may call it. The current rooster is built for Torts hockey. AV was brought here to change things, but he can't do that alone the personnel have to change as well.

Girardi for example have struggle a lot this season adjusting to the new system although he has picked it up quite a bit lately, but still is he a first pairing d that AV prefers? I don't think so.

Thats fair, but then that means everyone needs to go. Can't pick and choose when you are rebuilding. Personal sentiments for Hank, Callahan, Staal and Nash need to be thrown out the window. They are more valuable in a trade than they would be three or four years down the line when the team could be done rebuilding. Retooling is for teams that are one piece away from contending or already contending. The Rangers not contenders for the cup.

I want the Rangers to rebuild, but by signing Lundqvist to that ridiculous contract, it signals that the Rangers are at least going to try to be contenders. Going down that path, you have to keep Girardi and probably Callahan if you want to have a chance to be a contender.

I would be fine with a complete rebuilding job, but I also am dealing with reality. Sather would not have given Hank that ridiculous contract if he was going to blow up the team. He obviously thinks that the team is a contender, and if thats the mindset, you need to keep Girardi.

Not everybody but some. Hank, Staal and Nash should stay, Callahan and Girardi on the other hand should be shopped imo. That would probably return some valuable pieces and truly change the identity of this club.

Sather & co have to make up their minds who should be a part of the future Rangers soon.

People keep bringing up that the fact we resigned Lundqvit means we aren't trying to rebuild...I'd agree usually but I feel we are in a unique scenario here that means otherwise:

Lundqvist is having an off year. He isn't single handedly carrying this team to wins like in years past. This presents us with a unique opportunity to get a high draft pick while he struggles this year.

Major pieces of the core are becoming UFAs: prime opportunity to trade them for young players/picks/etc if that's what management would want to do.

With lundqvist having an off year, a single year 'retool' I feel is possible and can be effective. Now if you want to argue that we have inept management that can't do this effectively...won't argue with you there.

I dont agree with your ridiculous absolutism in either direction, and Ill leave it at that.

The organization has been rebuilt and had a small window once already while not getting any high picks. It can be done again.

Well that's just not happening. I would be thrilled with Tatar/Vatanen/Palmieri coming back for either 24 or 5. He calls them all "crap" and then decides that Eberle/Yakupov/Burns are the only realistic targets. Right.

Yeah, I literally wrote that it wasn't happening in the post you quoted. And I also pointed out that he doesn't say that they're realistic, yet you're hammering him for saying just that.

I would not be at all thrilled with those guys coming back for superior players. It's a classic case of okay guys on good teams looking great. Get them here and lean on them to be bigger pieces of this puzzle and I'd be surprised if they didn't disappoint.

A guy I think we should spin the wheels on trading (besides those mentioned) is Marc Staal. Really good player but he has horrible luck staying healthy. You can't depend on him.

Honestly, I'm down to trade anyone other than Kreider, Zuccarello, Stepan, McDonagh, and Lundqvist. Anyone else see their value on the trade market.

We need a dynamo and Nash and Richards ain't it...

Blow it up...sell sell sell. I love callahan with everything but I think even hes gonna end up going. Gonna stop buying rangers jerseys because whats the point.

I agree, Sather should sell (which he'll never do). Have an awesome draft and we'll be back with a vengeance next year.

As for Tyson Barrie, I think that might be the best you can get for Del Zotto. I would do Del Zotto for Barrie at this point

Not advocating any specific trades, signings, re-signings, etc. This is just how I feel about this team at this point:

McDonagh: best player on the team
Girardi: I'll always be attached to G but he hasn't been great and is going to get an unsightly payday
Stall: feel bad for him but hasn't been himself since the injuries and no longer looks better than a #4
MDZ: has been mishandled but also drives me nuts and has no future here any more
Moore: tools with no toolbox and more of a #7 than #6
Stralman: solid bottom pair guy who can fill in higher but shouldn't be relied on
Falk: might as we'll be Bickel

Callahan: never loved his leadership style but love his game. Shouldn't be relied on as a top threat. He's a middle-six guy who is going to get overpaid
Zuccarello: made a believer out of me and is out best forward with an engine that never stops
Kreider: looks like he's becoming a solid second liner but I don't think he'll ever be a legit top notch talent like we need
Richards: better this year than expected but not good and will be bought out
Stepan: he's a #2 center whose having a mediocre year
Brassard: wasted potential who really brings very little 90% of the time
Pouliot: ditto Brassard
Hamelin: a lot like Callahan a good utility guy who can play second line but is ideally a third liner
Nash: I hate this guy more than most NHLers. He's such a gutless player and I never wanted him. Has always been overrated
Dorsett: fine fourth liner
Boyle: frustrating because he's given chances he shouldn't be given and once made us think he could score, but a fine fourth liner
Moore: an okay fourth liner
Asham: retire
Miller: looks like he should be a Dubinsky-esque player eventually. Middle six type player

Lundqvist: will always love the King but he's been a big disappointment this year. Also not getting support but he's not up to snuff
Talbot: pleasant surprise but the team should play as hard in front of the guy they owe it to and not just the new kid

AV: hate this clown. He's awful. He doesn't coach

That said, McDonagh is the only player on this team I absolutely wouldn't move. There's literally nothing special on this roster anywhere right now besides Hank and McD and Hank isn't playing like anything special. He's earned a season pass. We suck. We should be a lottery team. We should have been a lottery team several times during Hank's time here. We're terrible. Mediocre or worse everywhere.

Some spelling errors due to my iPad and I can't edit but anyhow, I meant to say there is no reason not to sell and absolutely no reason to keep anyone off limits but McD and Hank who is untradeable anyway.

Dreger was just on NHLN to say that the Rangers have had talks (with his agents) about re-signing Girardi and it's possible a deal could be done before the Olympic break.

We're going for it!

Oh dear, this organization might be even stupider than we think. Unless it's a sign and trade. And those rarely happen.
