I think they should keep Sheppard, he is showing improvement and I think he's been pretty solid. Worthy of an extension.

Galiardi I'm pretty meh about. Keeping him around for cheap is fine but I have no complaints if he isn't retained. (Other than the trade debocle)

Gomez I'm unsure about. He has skills but I don't know if he fufills the teams needs. I dunno, if he comes cheap again I don't see too big a problem with it.

Agreed on all accounts except I would think another team such as FLA could really properly utilize Gomez

I think Galiardi, and the rest of the Sharks, need a coach who can light a fire under their *****. Tell Galiardi to go out and legally try to piss off the other team. We know it's possible, especially looking back at our series in the playoffs years back. I hated him during that series because he was an effective pest and player. With a new system/coach maybe he could get back, and I'm not sure any Sharks fan thinks that the Sharks couldn't play with a bit more fire.

I'm willing to bet part of the reason hes been scratched so often is that he doesn't get involved in that. TMac just said one of the reasons Murray is still.in the line up is his willingness to get involved in "extra cirrucular" stuff. The Sharks need a new system though I do agree.

How many of our forwards consistently go out and play the body? It seems like we acquire people with that reputation, then they stop. The ones that we have that do play the body are on and off. I'm not even talking about extra curricular stuff. I'm talking about in-game pesting during play.

Maybe McLellan wants defensemen to be physical and forwards to be ice skaters:sarcasm:

Not that I believe a word of it, but either last night or the night before (I can't remember), there was some deadline discussion on one of the Canadian sports channels (Rogers Sportsnet, the clear inferior little brother of Candian sports channels) about the fact that Ryan Miller is potentially on the block.

One of the analysts (John Shannon) said for some reason he thinks Miller would end up with the Sharks because it "would be the big name trade the Sharks need to shake things up"

Yep. Because goaltending is totally the biggest problem the team has.

This is why I watch TSN and not Sportsnet. They've never recovered their credibility since that year they employed Eklund as a trade deadline "insider"

I heard that as well. Even very briefly touched on during a late night show.

I agree with you, that'd be a ridiculous move especially per the dollars involved.

Sportsnet only good for their baseball and NFL coverage.

My thoughts, as i've noted a few times, a package for Kessel. Our team is desperate for a true finisher and a huge plus is he has many years ahead of him. Doesnt matter if he doesnt have size, we already have enough, even though some play as lightweights (that relates to the third and fourth lines needing much attention as well). Toronto is in 'Kadri mania', now is a good time to jump on Kessel.

Low pressure?

There are lots of places with low pressure that have a better future than here.

Besides, it would be the same off-season that we have to deal with Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Boyle, and Couture. How would that be a good idea?

I'd love to acquire Kessel, but there's no way we should give up the assets Toronto would demand because there's no way Kessel would sign here.

Bull. The track record for this type of acquistion in team results is very poor. I very much doubt that the Sharks are an exception. They have a problem with speed of play and breakouts. Kessel will not fix that. And the Sharks would take a hit for his lack of defensive play.

The reality of purchasing "proven" goal scorers is that the team generally funnels the puck to the proven guy to the detriment of everyone else. The acquisition gets his goals but the goal totals of the teams generally suffer. For a recent example, look at the Rangers and Nash.

Exactly. I watch other teams and they play so much faster than San Jose. The Kings aren't an overly fast team yet they play fast and move the puck with efficiency. Thats something the Sharks sorely lack.

Nash is more of a Thornton type player (when Joe used to attack the net), very different than Kessel.

That's not really a fair example. They aren't exactly funneling the puck to Nash only. It's that Gaborik and Richards have been awful this entire season.

The Kings are just so good at possession, they can overcompensate for not having a great transition game.

That is part of it. Changing the style to get Nash the puck. It makes other guys look awful. The other part is that their bottom 6 scoring has gone into the porcelain bowl.

5 more games until the trade deadline. Anaheim, Anaheim, Detroit, Phoenix, Vancouver. I honestly think we're capable of losing them all. Then become sellers, then tank, pick Mackinnon, profit. ;)

That Nash trade really did gut their depth. No Anisimov and Dubinsky. Replaced with scraps like Taylor Pyatt and Jim Halpern.

Apparently Tyler Myers is possibly available. Defense isn't our need but I would not mind at all if DW made a run at Myers.

What do you think it'd take?

Probably a pipe dream anyway but interesting to hear his name even coming up.

No.

Pretty much has run out his upside. Low middle pairing two-way dman. The Sharks are better off with Braun or Demers. Myers kills the PP and not in a good way. He does have highlight reel plays that are few and far between. He is huge and a way to look at him is as a much lesser version of Burns and without the speed of Burns.
