Speculation: Trade Speculation Part IV

Did you miss the part when I said they would have sustained a d injury? That means the circumstances would be different and may warrant a trade.
Plus, even if everything seems to be going their way, the reality is that there has been some inconsistency (naturally) and their winning pace isn`t sustainable. But what`s even more important, they`ve been struggling to find a proper 2nd line center for years. Neither Bolland nor Kruger can get the job done. Frolik was moved to wing and Sharp is better at wing. There have been talks about Roy and Weiss in the past. Roy went to Dallas via trade, Weiss stayed with the Panthers thanks to last season`s miracle playoff birth.

Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, the most obvious option (Weiss), that finally seemed to be available (UFA status), has to undergo wrist surgery and is now done for the year. So yeah, no move is going to be made. But bringing Weiss would make them significantly better (hard to imagine right?) and wouldn`t mess up the so-called chemistry. Don`t fix what ain`t broken? Sure, but there is a little crack that could`ve been fixed.

Did you miss the part where I was simply adding onto what you were saying and not necessarily disagreeing with you?

I remember hearing on TSN radio last year that the Devils were in talks of moving Parise for Patrick Kane before the deadline. (Straight up) Obviously that never happened but oh how I wished it did.

It must have been a wild rumor because it never picked up steam after it was mentioned that one time. However given that it was TSN I figured at the time that it was pretty legit and we were going to see another Kovy-like epic of a blockbuster move.

What forwards would the Blackhawks part with nowadays? That team is on the best regular season run in it's franchise history. What would it take to someone like Stalberg?

You're hating Salvador because he's on a cold streak. It happens. He was signed to a 3 year deal. The first 20+ games is not indicative of the next 180+ games on the contract. Everyone multiples their panic level because the team has lost a few games. Stop throwing that signing under the bus when he has played such a small percentage of the contract.
Salvador is not on a cold streak. He's playing fine actually. He's a stay at home defensemen though, and that contract was too much for him. And yes I say the same thing about Volchenkov.

It seems criticsm of Lou or the guys upstairs might be off limits with you. Like when I criticized them for letting Marty go to UFA rather than just giving him what he wanted.

Yeah I'll admit, for whatever I said about Salvador in the past few weeks, he's played well lately. This team's problem is scoring goals, and it's not been the D's fault.

It hasn't been Salvador's fault, but his contract is starting to bother me. I think you, and I have talked about this before. I remember not being worried back during the lockout, but some of you were.

He's a beast of a stay at home defensemen, and I wanted him back this year. It just didn't make much sense with Tallinder being paid the same amount, and us now having 8 defensemen.

Hard to play D when your offense can't sustain a cycle, and the D has STILL played pretty well as a unit.

The PK is the issue, although it's been better the last two games, but top 6 scoring is awful. Elias, Clarkson, Kovy, Zajac, and Henrique are all cold at the same time.

Now that I'm thinking about it, we're not losing because of a lack of depth, were losing because our best players are underperforming.

Moose is pleased that you think that.

*THE* reason we haven't won(at least one of the Biggest reasons) is the Poor Goaltending play of Hedberg.

Had we had a more COMPETENT Goaltender in net, I say we would've managed to win at least 3 games out of this 5 game stretch which we lost.

Just my opinion, of course.

Clarkson and Urbom for Gagner. Not a bad deal. You get a right handed centerman who can also play wing and who is 23 years old. Plus, you still retain his RFA rights which should come out around $2.5-3 million annually. I love Clarkson but he's not worth 4 million plus and Gagner has a much higher ceiling.

This is crazy talk. Clarkson is worth more to the Devils than Gagner.

Not forfeiting the pick looks like nonsense at this point. Him being on the 1st line is nonsense at this point.

Also crazy talk. Matteau is doing fine for a rookie.

At that time it was indefensible. Now that Matteau looks like he belongs in the NHL as a nineteen year old rookie, it's more defensible.

Not sure what you're trying to prove, I've never had any problem with admitting when I'm wrong.

I've never had a problem admitting I'm wrong either. I don't hold it against you. Just saying you thought this way once too. If Lou and ownership doesn't ice a better team than this next year we might be forfeiting a pretty good first rounder next year. Don't you agree?

To be fair, Saugus made that post before Matteau even played a game, and pretty much everyone here said it was dumb to not forfeit.

After watchin Matteau handle the NHL game, it appears Lou outsmarted HF. Again.

Way too early to make that call and I still like Lou made a bad decision forfeiting the pick.

I said it then and still say it now. You don't forfeit the pick. Matteau will be two years ahead of whoever we would have picked in 2014. And you don't manage your team, at least not the New Jersey Devils, assuming you're going to have top-10 picks down the road. You want to think like that, start cheering for the Blue Jackets.

There's a difference between criticism for legitimate bad decisions and criticism for something that is purely speculation. The specific nature of Brodeur related negotiations isn't entirely known. It may not have been as simple as just "give him what he wants." That's not to say Brodeur ever considered leaving, but whats to say that he wasn't intrigued just to see what it was like, or that he was equally as willing to wait on the Parise situation to play out a bit before worrying about his dollars and cents. You can't act like Brodeur was sitting there and telling Lou "this is what I want. Why is this taking so long? If you don't offer this, why shouldn't I leave right now?" If they were both pretty much on the same page with wanting a new deal for him to stay, what was their rush to do it in the first minute of free agency (or during the week before when Lou may have been a little more preoccupied with the Parise situation). Criticizing Lou for the Brodeur contract is just senseless and a total waste. There's nothing tangible about it, and there is little concrete to use in such an argument anyway.

I like you.

Post Of The Year.

I trusted lou, and thought HF was going overboard in it's questioning of the Matteau pick.

Kid still has not proven himself as a legit NHL player, but certain HF views as Matteau as junk have been busted.
