This board sometimes Amazes me how strongly people overreact when times are tough.

Now that I'm thinking about it, we're not losing because of a lack of depth, were losing because our best players are underperforming. Kovy, Zajac, Patty, and Clarky have been garbage. If we get another player and those guys don't pick it up we'll be in the same boat. We need our "good" players to stop underperforming if we want to win.

Clarkson and Urbom for Gagner. Not a bad deal. You get a right handed centerman who can also play wing and who is 23 years old. Plus, you still retain his RFA rights which should come out around $2.5-3 million annually. I love Clarkson but he's not worth 4 million plus and Gagner has a much higher ceiling.

What sense does this make for the Oilers? They are have a ton of young talent and are about to lose a bunch of defensemen. I don't see how giving Clarkson 4 mil is going to fix the issues they will have this off season.

They could use a Tallinder/Volchenkov, but we would have to sweeten the deal too much for my liking. Why would they even trade him in the first place? He's having a good year and I don't see any deal from us making them a better team.

He may be able to if we add something small like a prospect D. It depends where Edmonton is. Way out of the race, or still fighting? I think I'd want better Gagner. At this point I'm not opposed to trading Matteau. The decision not to forfeit the pick looks foolish now. Though it may be just as foolish for us to trade him. If we were gonna trade him we could have traded that pick at the draft, and let the team who got the pick decide who they wanted to use that pick on.

Trading Matteau is just a dumb idea. There's no reason to do that at all. Nonsense.

I don't see any trades happening. What we need as already posted is some better goaltending, Kovy, Zajac, Elias, Clarkson and to a degree Henrique to wake up and play up to their abilities and we'll be ok. If not, I may even show up for the draft at the Rock.

Exactly.

This team just has to find *something* that works and build on it. The constant line juggling is the same thing MacLean did when he panicked a few years back. It seems like everyone is playing out of position, and Kovy is getting ridiculous minutes.

I think CBGB is the only thing that is right about this team right now.

I would:
Move Elias back to center (he's played there for X years now, and with the extra skating it picks his game up)
Bring back Josefsson to add some speed to a slow lineup.
Figure out who our Dmen are going forward and just make a deal already (even if it is for draftpicks) so everyone can settle down and move on with their lives.
Switch Henrique's # to 9, and put him on a line with Zajac. Hypnotize Zajac to think that Zach never left. Ok, seriously? Just let those two play together and develop some chemistry.
Get Kovy off of the PK and limit him to one PP unit. Reduce his icetime.
