That's odd because he wasn't a UFA last summer....

They weren't willing to go to 2.5M for Prust. Ott makes 2.95M. They're paying Asham 1M.

That's what happens when you go on these boards after 4 too many last night. How else did Roy get to Dallas? for myself on that one.

But still, I think this season has shown, for both us and Montreal, that Prust was worth it. He is absolutely worth 1.5 more than Asham at the very least. Torts was 100% right in saying he's a "glue guy." He just makes the team better, on and off the ice. Each day that passes by we miss him more and more. I think the effect is felt even more considering we lost Dubi and Feds too.

Rather have an Ott and Prust on this team than Gaborik, for damn sure. 2.9+2.5 for what they bring is 10x more valuable than what Gabby brings for 7.5, if we're talking cap space here too.

And again, how many Otts and Prusts are there in the league? Obviously, they're not elite players, but they're certainly elite for their roles. We're lacking a guy like that in the worst way. Who's out there that we could acquire? Seriously doubt Ott's available, and it's just dumb to make a move for him now even if he is (considering we could have last summer).

I'd love to get Torres on this team. Maybe even Tootoo. Can't think of anyone else for that role that makes sense at this time. I'd even say we should make a move for Torres even if we still had Prust. Our bottom 6 is ***-****. No physicality whatsoever.

Rangers are not getting Voynov from LA, he's the reason Johnson was traded, he's unavailable, same with Williams and Clifford is going no where, these are all character guys, guys that DL likes to have.

I haven't seen one proposal that makes any sense for LA for Gaborik, none.

Dean won't move a Voynov or Clifford unless its the right fit and a guy who's 31 and a UFA next year and not playing so well is not a DL move, he wouldn't trade Schenn unless it was for a guy who was locked up long term and he did for Mike Richards, he ain't getting Gaborik and if he does and either Clifford, Williams or Voynov or Muzzin are apart of deal he should be fired because that's a terrible move and makes Zero sense.

Honestly, if IF Gabby gets moved it will be for a lower than expected return. Which is why I think we should and will hang on to him.
As with Richards, I see the Rangers brass chalking this year to the lockout, and give him next year to prove himself, if he can't, he will be bought out next summer.
So we'd have potentially 14M to work with next summer, just by getting rid of these 2 players, and other scrubs leaving will give us about 24M. Given the fact that yes, we did just lose 2 TOP players. You have to resign Callahan, Girardi and Hank. So I think, let's leave years out of this.
Callahan 4.5M
Girardi 5M
Hank 6M
So about 15M. We now have about 10M to build up the rest of our team, eg. get Gabby's, Richards's replacements.

rangers time to win is now, there window is now

hank/nash/callahan are all in there prime

richards will get worse next year, rangers need to trade gaby and bring in 2 or 3 pieces

a 3rd liner sparkplug player like steve ott would fit, and so would dan boyle on the right side

if rangers can bring in a steve ott type player and dan boyle and give up gabby and a couple lower pieces it would turn them into a serious contendor

Blow It up .... Sell . This team is not making pO . Losses to Buf and Fla sealed that . Sell sell sell

I really still think Gabby can turn it around. You think Ott gives us a better chance at winning? (serious question ahha)
And Boyle I think is the second coming of Redden

richards

does anyone think it might be a good idea of moving richards instead of gaborik and maybe try to pry stasny of COL?

Think their is a market for Nash ?
I'd take two top C PROSPECTS and a 1st and a roster player

No. Trading Richards will blow up in our face if he retires before a certain season. We get saddled with a cap hit.

Gaborik for Voynov, Williams, 1st?

Kreider ++ for Ryan?

Oh, I would be a happy happy man.

Dan Boyle will make-or-break Torts IMO. If he pans out, he's the PPQB we've needed since 'Nam. If he doesn't, Torts will never live it down, and personally, I believe it's his ticket out of here.

Boyle is a homerun/strikeout acquisition, no in between. His play thus far this season coupled with his age/cap hit has him leaning towards the latter. His ES numbers are mediocre at best. And I'm not a Gaborik lover, but Boyle is not the return I'd want for Gabs.

Not a chance, Voynov is a non-starter and Williams is going no where and LA has no first, there is no trade that makes sense for LA.

To Rangers: Morrow + pick

To Dallas: Gaborik

Rangers get a player that better fits their coaches style and a pick which they might be looking to replace. Best of all we clear cap going into the offseason and add a pick.

BOOM! Two birds meet one stone.

Morrow is terrible. DO NOT WANT.

That better be the best pick of all time...

ott at 2.9 is alot beter value than gabby at 7.5

gabby is streaky as hell, never battles in corners

and the package of a ott/boyle i believe is better than gabby

dan boyle has played with torts and richards, he is a vet who can still play, on the right side, and as a powerplay qb, he fills out our d

and ott can be that prust type player on the 3rd line

and hopefully zuccarello comes back, another depth player

we need to address our 3rd/4th lines ASAP, they are invisible, they need zucc's and a sparkplug player

we need to move a name, lets be honest

nash is going nowhere
richards is going nowhere
torts is going nowhere

that leaves gabby

its a no brainer imo, trade him and get those 2 or 3 key pieces this team needs

What would be your key pieces be? This team needs scoring and Gabby is the best goal scorer on the team (even though he's under-preforming).

I think trading Gaborik is much harder than we think.
