lets say they claim Jokinen would they then turn around and deal one of Pyatt/Boyle with say Gilroy for a rental Righty Dman?

Eminger needs to be a spare again pretty soon. He's done an ok job he's just a little slow.

Calgary I bet would take a deal for Sarich or Babchuk

Remember when Sather dealt Dawes + Prucha + Kalinen for Morris? I hope they make a similar deal this season....

Pyatt + Gilroy + ______ for Rental

I've always liked Eminger, but he's been exposed this year and looks like crap. We need a serviceable rental. Especially if the consensus is that Staal won't be back for the playoffs.

just a question: were we happy with the Morris acquisition?

He had an awesome shot. but I'll always associate him with this goal.

He was pretty good for a rental. Ideal actually, IMO.

That game was over anyway and it was when Ovechkin was an absolute beast. A #5-6 rental shouldn't have been out there against him.

Imagine Eminger going up against Ovechkin when he used to play like that. Sheesh

At this point, if the opinion is Gaborik HAS to be traded in the off-season, which I believe it is, then I am 100% okay dealing him at this deadline if the return is worthwhile.

How are you defining "worthwhile"?

I also think the team is on the lookout for a more complete 4th liner who is tough and can play the game. I don't think Sather likes the idea of just having Asham out there for the rest of the season. Just my .02$

They might be. But unless Gaborik and Richards get going, the impact of a move like this will be marginal.

Worthwhile as is in something that helps both now and in the future. Not Gaborik for Clowe +.

I agree. But if the feeling is that we have to wait for Richards and Gaboik, what do they need if they do get going? More toughness and aggressiveness from the lower lines would help IMO. They can also make the deal to let a player get used to the system to see if they want to re-sign him in the off-season as they are lacking that type of player.

Every team can use more aggressiveness and toughness down the lineup. Pittsburgh won 12 games in a row and just made moves to address that.

I think the middle of the lineup is starting to come together. And, I never thought I'd say this, but I think Arron Asham has played really well since he came back and can add a jump to the 4th line.

I guess my point is, despite all the talk and conjecture in threads like this, I can't see one single significant move happening before the draft.

Boston claims Daugavin off Ottawa

Jokinen has cleared waivers, stays with Canes.

Rutherford couldn't give him away for free.

Jokinen clears, as that $64.3M cap for next season has teams spooked. Daugavins to BOS

Spooked is a good work.

I will bet money that he gets traded today. The Canes now realize no one will take him with that contract and they will need to get a contract back. Hope Sather is smart enough to pounce.

Pyatt + low end prospect to clear a contract for Jokinen

Pull the trigger on this Slats. Jokinen didn't clear because he can't play, he cleared because he has a bad contract and it's hard to swallow that hit without subsequently sending salary the other way.

Only reason I'm ok with this is because of how the bottom 6 has looked since dumping Halpern and Bickel and implementing Asham and Newbury.

Still think we should have claimed Kaspar

The entire league is staying away from Jokinen's cap hit into next season. Theres a reason for that.

The entire league is staying away from his cap hit because they can't send any salary back. CAR needs to take back SOME salary to shed Jokinen. The hit is mitigated if you're sending back a Pyatt who makes 1.55MM or whatever it is. What don't people get about this?

Jussi Jokinen clearing waivers the day after Stepan puts up 4 points is hilarious.

I'd take him if they eat 500K and take Pyatt back.

You dont think the fact Jokinen's play has nose-dived in the last 3 or 4 years has anything to do with it either?

I think this is yet another one of those situations where the idea of getting a player is much better than the reality of getting that player.

Not a bad idea. We'd be taking on about 950K in salary then. I'd be up for that.

The "trade Stepan for Jokinen" stuff is the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to this seasons' "Most Ridiculous" Awards. But theres still some season left...

The last 3 or 4 years?

09-10 - 65 points
10-11 - 52 points (played 11 less game than previous year)
11-12 - 46 points (a dip, but not to significant)

I mean sure, he's not a gambreaker and that 65 points was likely his outlier year, but he's still capable of scoring 35-40 points in this league. Much more than i can say for any of our other 3rd/4th line options.

Especially if we're able to dump pyatt for him.

He has 10 points in 30 games this season. Hes not much of an upgrade. I'd do the Pyatt deal proposed, but only because Pyatt stinks.
