Not saying they should do the trade for this reason, but if they trade for Jokinen and he sucks and they can't move him, they can buy him out (normal buy-out) ad he would cost 1 million for 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Not exactly terrible.

Count me in the group that thinks he would greatly improve the LW depth on this team and improve the speed and overall skill of the top-9.

Why? The guy is a 3rd liner, albeit an excellent one.
Look what Gaustad went for last season. Ott provides everything he does and a lot more offense.

Take it as whatever you want. It's math. It would be idiotic for CAR to take back any salary on Jokinen in addition to a Pyatt type contract after the extension they just gave Semin and the rest of the makeup of their team.
And it's that reason why they would take this deal that could clear up as much as $2.05 million on next season's cap.

He'd change the dynamic for this team. I fear that the price would be too high though.

He would ideal.

The other thing is that Ott is essentially a 2nd-3rd line tweener who sits closer to the 3rd line slot. In other words, he would provide for this team what Dubinsky was supposed to last year.

If Ott's available, I would be VERY interested.

Me too.

Because he's the kind of guy teams love to add for a playoff push. Brings the kind of game that can swing a series in your favor.

I am not saying I don't like Ott, because I do, I just don't think the price will be THAT high of a player like Jokinen didn't get grabbed for free.

So teams are going to overpay? Or are you saying it will be more like a two 2nds for Murray type of trade...

Dreaming here, but how nice would it be to see:

Boyle + Powe + 3rd for Ott

Pyatt + Delisle for Jokinen

New line-up
Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Jokinen-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Ott-Gaborik
Miller-Newbury-Asham

Look at the speed of the top-9 wingers :amazed:

Fair enough, but I worry. Jokinen's issues really stem from a combination of being pushed down in the lineup and not accepting the role he was pushed into. Will he accept that role here? It's definitely a risk, especially for a team that's struggled with players in those roles to begin with.

I think the difference would be that on the 3rd line in NY, the Rangers have talent to play with. In Carolina, they don't. In Carolina they want their 3rd line to be a defensive line. The Rangers had that. Last night they did not with Richards on the 3rd line.

That would be the difference. He can't be a checking line forward which is fine because the LW depth on this team is abysmal.

Ott should definitely be a target, certainly over someone like Clowe, but he will not be traded for a package of Rangers trash like Boyle, Pyatt and a low round pick. That's just wishful thinking.

Count me in as someone who wants Steve Ott, but the price will be high that's for sure. 2nd and a prospect at least. Brooks was talking about Avery in his column today. Is Ott an Avery?

Fine. We'll throw in the rights to Pashnin and Jason Wilson.

Did somebody say Jagr? :naughty:

Ha...that would be me. I still don't like this team's scoring depth. You look at last night's game, they managed to score 5. If you heard Mike Sullivan speak last night, he said Torts and him are trying to lend a little slack on the leash to the big guys for the offense, as long as they meet them halfway on the defensive side of the game. That's exactly what happened last night. Lundqvist was forced to make some great saves. However, Lundqvist does this all the time and will continue to do this all the time. So understand that you have that as a strength and add more offense to the 2nd and 3rd lines. The Nash line provided all the offense. The Kreider goal was the 5th goal towards the end of the game when it got ugly. Granted it was a nice goal but still it is not enough depth.

I've watched Jagr a lot this year. He still has it. He is still a force. He still draws multiple players to him creating space for his teammates.

Just my opinion.

There is absolutely no way in hell that Buffalo trades Ott for that package.

Because Callahan/Gaborik were moved to LW last night so maybe we can bring in Jagr.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Callahan-Miller-Gaborik
Kreider-Richards-Jagr

I'm only playing with the lines here.

I loved Jagr as much as anyone, but the day of re-treads are over.

Love Jagr. As much as I'd love to bring him over though we need some grinders man. The coaches need to give the first 2 lines some offensive slack and have their bottom 2 be checking lines.

Don't think we'll be making any more trades for wingers my man. I think the Rangers just went through hell to get Fast over here, same with Zuccarello.

We'll maybe see a trade for a defender (similar to a Morris). Half season rental with some sort of use. Hamrlik doesn't seem to be getting the job done.

Also, Boyle has underperformed a bunch this year but I don't think we should trade him. He's turning it around. He fights for his team mates, I don't think another mercenary would do as good of a job as him at this stage of the season. We're a hot streak away from making an impact in the east. We have still yet to find the identity of this seasons team. Trading important locker room guys isn't the answer to finding it.

I would prefer to keep Powe for depth/PK reasons but that lineup looks real nice. So much versatility and a nice combination of skill and grit. If Hags-Step-Nash is having a rough night you still have Jokinen-Richie-Cally. And if they can't do **** you still have Gabby, Kreider and Ott on the 3rd line. Although I'd probably switch Gaborik with Callahan on the 2nd line because Gabby playing any type of defense terrifies me. Either way, that lineup looks excellent (on paper, at least)
