Sheer speculation...I think the expiration date on Boyle has passed and (not specualtion but from a little birdie) there are a couple of Western Division teams that are interested. If he goes for a draft choice (perhaps a second or third), could that be coupled with another choice (one of the Rangers 3rds this year) for a rental on an expiring contract? Clowe could make sense here.

I could definitely see that happening. Especially if Sather has his eyes on some other additions.

Marginal players with no money for next season. OEL's contract raises the price for McD.

I really think Gaborik is gone no matter what.

RB, I love McD, but he should be making no more than what Subban is making (avg $2.5Mn. on a 2yr deal) Stepan should earn $4Mn on a 2-3 yr deal and Hagelin about $2-2.25Mn on a 2-3 yr deal.

Subban signed a bridge contract. What is PK's salary for the 2nd year which is the arbitration year? $3.75M. McDonagh is arbitration eligible in July. Even DZ is getting $2.9M in his 2nd year(arb year).

There are so many D making $4M in arbitration years such as Carlson and Fowler. OEL signed a 6 year deal which covers 1 non-arb year,3 arb years and 2 group III years. $3.5M next season. $4,$6,$6,$6.5 and $7.

Trading Gaborik looks inevitable at this point, either by the trade deadline or during the off-season. I would use his money to try to sign Clarkson as a UFA in the summer. He's the type of player this team needs...and is a Torts kind of player;)

No thanks, another Devil that would suck here. People didn't like Dubinsky's contract, can guarantee Clarkson will get more as UFA and he's got 80 less points in 1 less career games.

Looks like Zucc and Fasth are our "in -house" moves to address offense? I'm ok with it I guess as long as we pick up a Torres - type player.

Still think J.Jokinen would be good.

Can Fasth stay for the playoffs?

FASTH has been cleared to stay as long as NYR have him. He has to be on playoff Roater by 4/3 I believe . Whether he sticks of not remains to be scene .
Juice Joker might be good as he is a LW/ C however unless some moves are made bringing in here if he got to us to claim would cap string us a bit and would require a BB and PYatt to be gone or one of Brad and Gab .

The Rangers have money for David Clarkson? The Rangers have so many players up for contracts after 13-14. The cap can't drop below $64.3M but will it go up for 14-15? The NHL lowered revenue projections for this season.

Alot can change in the next week with the deadline. I dont think its smart to move NHL players like Boyle and Pyatt unless they get NHL players back

Fasth and Zuccarello are going to provide some depth but for now I play Zuc and send Fasth to CT. I also assume Lindberg is coming over when he can too

The more I think about it, the more it seems to me the Rangers have made their moves by claiming Hamrlik, bringing back Zuccarello and possibly adding Fast. The teams biggest issue is two of their top players have underperformed — and I don't see a trade that will solve that problem.

Trading Gaborik The proposals being bandied about here just are not realistic. They are not going to get anything close to true value for him as he has not had a good season, is not a rental, carries a hefty price tag and can have a say in where he will or will not go as he has a NTC. If the Rangers feel that getting rid of Gaborik is a case of addition by subtraction (I don't think they do) what then can they really hope to get? Is this team really better off dealing Gaborik for the likes of Justin Williams (two more seasons at 3.65) or Jarret Stoll (two more seasons at 3.25)? But thinking that they will get a top six LW, bottom pair defensman and a first for Gaborik is just fantasy.

Brian Boyle Another guy who is underperforming and not a rental. Again, are the Rangers really going to be a better team just by getting rid of him? I was one of the people here who felt that Boyle could slot in as the team's third line center. And, perhaps stubbornly, I'm not ready to say he can't. But more importantly, if Gaborik and Richards were performing up to their standards, nobody would be killing Boyle for his lack of offense. But the question still remains, what is Boyle going to really net this team?

Gotta Give to Get If the Rangers really are looking to make a difference-making move, what exactly are they going to give up to make such a deal? Assuming Stepan, McDonagh, Hagelin, Staal, Girardi, Miller, Kreider and Del Zotto aren't being dealt, what do the Rangers really have to offer — especially without a 1st? Christian Thomas, Ryan Bourque, Brady Skeij are right now all prospects that most teams have already.

So where does this really them? If they want to sell off small pieces (Powe, Gilroy, Asham, Pyatt) they might be able to. But what is that really going to net this team to help them this season?

The best players they could get are the ones they already have — Gaborik and Richards. Looking at the Pens recent moves, it shows the importance of a productive Gaborik and Richards. While those two are nowhere near the calibre of player of Malkin and Crosby, if Richards and Gaborik were even producing half as much as last year and Stepan and Nash were doing what they were doing, the Rangers would be looking to fill holes/upgrade positions the way the Pens are — not revamp an entire lineup.

No panic moves. It's fair to chalk up this season to being an anomaly. And there is still youth, talent and upside in the lineup.

Trading Gaborik for players requires taking back money. If they trade Gaborik by next Wednesday, money is coming back in the trade. They aren't trading Gaborik for a bunch of rentals. They aren't trading him for young players/prospects and a pick during the season. Trading Gaborik doesn't give the Rangers financial relief to sign other players if they are trading him for players.

I don't think it is by any means inevitable.

You really think the Rangers are going to be able to trade Gaborik and not take back any salary moving forward?

Gaborik has a limited no trade list. 10 teams.

And now, the Blueshirts are seeking to move Gaborik again ... this time out of town by the April 3 trade deadline. It’s going to be a tough sale at $7.5 million on the cap through next season, even tougher because the Rangers need value in return for No. 10, who has provided management with a list of 10 teams to which he cannot be dealt under terms of his no-trade clause.

I would be completely surprised if they don't make a move to bring in a player who can PK and drop the gloves at this years deadline.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Gaborik or Boyle moved at this point. Not saying they should, or should not. Just that I would not be surprised.

Finally, Torts played Boyle at RW over Gaborik last night (where Boyle should have been playing for a couple of years anyways IMO). MZA and Fasth are true RWers. MZA can play the left side as well. At what point do the Rangers try and maximize the asset and bring in pieces to fill the holes that are needed to be filled? 3c? Top-4 RD?

Considering how often Gilroy has been scratched and how little ice time Hamrlik is getting, you have to think Sather and co. are going to target a veteran D who is a pending UFA. I see them looking at players like Kuba in FL for a 2nd or third or a Pyatt/Boyle.

Gaborik on this team is forcing a square peg in a round hole. 3 right wingers on the same team. Gaborik is the guy moved to the left side. He looks lost. Gaborik isn't on the first PP unit. Unless something crazy happens,Gaborik won't finish his contract in NY.

I really don't think it makes sense to trade Gabby at the deadline.

Draft, with RFAs looming and a weak UFA crop now that Getzlaf/Perry re-upped is a completely different story.

Kuba has a $4m cap hit and is signed for next season. 35+ plus contract.

I think the Pens acquisitions of Morrow and Murray make Clowe even more appealing to Sather. There's also some considerable value in simply keeping him away from Boston. The B's are a hard team to play against, and the Pens are stacking up for a showdown against them in the post-season. We're lacking in grit and unfortunately a struggling Clowe might be our only option.

If they can find a team who wants him for both this years playoffs AND next year, I am sure that team would pay more now.

Exactly. He just hasn't fit, it's odd.

pretty sure Gilroy will be wavied to clear another roster spot. Just a matter of time, they are likely trying to include him in a deal or get a late pick back too

Cost on rentals seems high or the Pens overpaid on Morrow and Murray

they have alot of 3rds but at the same time I think they can get value for Pyatt and Boyle still. So maybe a good hockey trade player for player is how they go

for now they are adding in house options in Zuke and Fasth

Yep. I honestly wouldn't mind Clowe, but Pyatt has to go. They can't have 10,000 forwards on this roster. Clowe would fit well. I also like Torres but I know many people do not like him. Guy is a pot stirrer and one tough SOB.

I agree with you in principle. I just have a hard time seeing a team's "more" being enough to offset not having Gabby on this run. Even with the way he's playing.

Agreed with what your saying, but all those guys put up more points than McD, and are arguably their teams top D Man. This is not the case with McD...not yet anyways.
