Without reading 17 pages, what is the general consensus around here of what NYR is looking for on the trade market?

On this borad the general consensus is to look to the future, ie. get young players, prospects and picks back for Gaborik and Boyle. Whether that is what Glen Sather has in mind is rather doubtful, though.

I think we should be glad this is a short season. If you look at Gaborik's career season by season you'll see that he alternates good, 35-40 goal seasons with injury prone and underperforming seasons. It's a good thing that we have him for one more year, I would cry if we didn't resign him and he went and scored 40 goals again.

I really don't know why this myth keeps coming up. Gaborik's career isn't full of alternating seasons. He has been very capable of putting up consecutive seasons of excellence.

2007-2008, Gaborik puts up then-career numbers, leading Minnesota to a division title. 2008-09, he plays just 17 games due to ballsack injuries. 2009-10, another career season. 2010-2011, he scores just 20 something goals and in an 82 game season he wouldn't even hit 30 at his 2011 pace. 2011-12, he puts up 40 goals.

Exactly. He has had injury riddled seasons but even then he produced much better than this year.

It's obvious now though that he sold his soul to the devil to play in the NHL. Only explanation as to why he is stuck on 666 points.

That doesn't really help your argument, he put up 23pts in 17 games that year... He also had 22g in 62 games in 10-11, you're saying had he played another 20 he wouldn't have scored 8 more?

Coincidence if anything that this trend developed. Vinny Prospal is the guy with alternating years lol.

His career started in 2000.

After his rookie year he put up two great seasons. After those, he had an injury season but after that I'd say he put 5 (count 'em, 5) consecutive seasons of great productivity.

Unless they amnesty Richards and/or are working on an extension at a significantly lower cap hit, there's no logical way to keep Gaby. He simply doesn't make cap sense with the other contracts and this team's structure. And I say this as someone who generally likes him and would rather keep him as a player.

Even at a 40 goal pace, he doesn't have enough overall game impact to justify a 7.5 cap hit given the other contracts this team has / will be signing.

Perfect world 3 pieces, combo of top 6 lw, bottom 6 role player, right d that can help PP, 1st rounder, prospect

NYr can add Boyle, Pyatt, eminger , gilroy, 3rd rounders to offers

If he was scoring at 40 goal pace, they'd make room for him to re-sign. But as he is far from it, he'll be gone.

Gaborik to the Wings for Filpulla +?

That was my thought.

Filppula is a UFA this summer, but if the Rangers are looking to unload some capspace, I think he might be someone you'd want to re-sign. He plays C and wing, but puts up his best numbers on the wing.

Not sure what the + would be, but probably not a 1st round pick after we surrendered one last season in a trade, but a we have plenty of good forward prospects at the moment.

Not to mention Ian White who is also on an expiring contract, but I think he would fit in well with the NYR if you're looking for a PMD who's also plays with some grit. He also has a right handed shot. Not that there's any sense in trying to persuade a bunch of fans on a message board (unless your GM is a poster), but White is a good player and I'm pretty shocked that Babcock scratched him for some games this season. I think it had to do with the team having so much youth on expiring contracts and wanting to see what they have in this shortened season.

Doesn't seem terrible for us, and I was basing it on the assumption that we would retain Filpulla. He could play 2nd or 3rd line and add nice depth. Detroit just seems like a good match for Gabby. He also had good chemistry with Datsyuk in the ASG. Not real worried about him turning into a Ranger killer or anything I mean he already scored 5 on us when he was with Minny it can't get much worse. Flip is older than I thought, so I think we definitely need a future back as well. But as a starting point I like it.

just an outsider

my view guys about the new york rangers is slats is a fool. whenever he goes and gets big names like gabby , richards, redden, holik, gomez, drury and now nash. he gets burned. if you guys still had dubi, ansiminov and erixon i am sure you would be better then 8th. erixon is playing well has a 21 yr old full first year. dubi would have given his heart and ansiminov would have put points. nash is no leader. just offence and its not like he is in top ten scoring with that gigantic contract. richards is a clucker 1979 checy impala now. sorry guys but slats is the problem of your misery. you guys have a great team and slats should have let it jelled from last years run. kept prust and not do that nash trade. chemistry is everything. having stars on paper is not the answer.

Like the idea of a package of Filpula + White +prospect for Gaborik + minor piece

That's two UFA, good players that I would like but they need alot more than that. Abdeklader , 1st rounder ........Rangers send Boyle with Gaborik

he didnt get burned with Gabby the freaking guy has 2 - 40 goal season......Nash is also holding up his end so that' a good move.

Richards is burning them for sure but last yr he was good. They have the buyout

The others yea your right for sure, terrible just baaaaaaaad

Who do you think they'd cut for 14/15 to make room for Gaby at $7.5? I'd like to keep the guy, but the cap math doesn't make sense. Keep in mind, if Richards is amnestied, the bulk of his cap hit has to be spent on another top 6 center. Those are expensive and there's no one in the system who can play the role on an ELC for the next 3 years. Miller certainly isn't the answer for the next 2-3 years for such a crucial position.

Does Filpula play LW? I think he does, just wanted to make sure. More importantly, any idea what cap number he's looking to hit? I realize it's hard to predict exactly, but any rumblings in Detroit how much he's looking for?

I doubt Holland would want to trade a 1st (but who knows), but I personally wouldn't mind a couple 2nds thrown in like the Douglas Murray deal, one being conditional on a re-signing.

Is this too much from a Wings fans point of view?
Filpula, Abdeklakder, White, 2nd for Gaborik and Boyle

both Gabby and Boyle have one yr left on their deals
both Filpula and White are UFA. key for the Rangers is Abdelkader and the pick. Plus cap space next yr.
