The Rangers trade Gaborik and his $7.5M but the other team isn't absorbing the entire $7.5M. The players coming to the Rangers won't be making the NHL minimum. Brad Marchand would be the perfect player. I know he signed a 4 year extension worth $18M before the lockout. Jeff Gorton was running the Bruins draft when Marchand was selected in 2006. He plays the left side. He turns 25 this May. Look at the teams interested in Iginla. Boston. Pitt. LA. Maybe the Wings. Those teams probably have an interest in Gaborik. Not trading Gaborik to Pitt. Iginla is a free agent this summer while Gaborik is signed for another year. The non-Cup contenders could be in the market for Gaborik. The Flyers had two scouts at the Rangers game last night. Dave Brown and Al Hill. Dreger was saying last night how much Giroux misses Jagr. The Rangers were at Boston-Philly last week. Simmonds would look good in blue. I know he signed an extension before the lockout. 6 years/$23.85M. Another guy who turns 25 later this year. Sather doesn't take on term but for a younger guy he could make an exception. The Flyers are full of good forwards. I know its trading with the Flyers. Simmonds and B.Schenn/S.Couturier. Doesn't address the top 4 D need. Not likely to happen but the Rangers need players like Marchand and Simmonds. Does Gaborik have Winnipeg on his list? Winnipeg pro scout Jack Birch was at both Rangers games-Canes and Devils. Birch was a former Rangers assistant coach under Ted Sator. Reg Higgs was the other assistant. Three bad *****. No good cop in that group. Bogosian is a righty top 4 D.

We all know the Rangers are looking to add with the NHL trade deadline two weeks from today. General manager Glen Sather is in the market for a right-handed defenseman, the club would like to bulk up on the wing and sure would like to add some scoring punch to boot.

The problem, though, is the Rangers have a limited pool of quality players available for barter. Marian Gaborik is more a Blueshirt than a blue chip.

Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller are as untouchable now as they were at last year’s deadline, when the Blue Jackets tried to pry some combination of the above in exchange for Rick Nash, and whatever happened anyway to No. 61, anyway? Unless they’ve lost their minds in the executive offices of the Garden, Chris Kreider would also be off-limits.

Which leaves ... well, it leaves Michael Del Zotto as the Blueshirts’ most marketable commodity. But even as the 22-year-old defenseman with the entirely reasonable cap hit of $2.55 million would likely be able to fetch an asset in return, it’s hard to believe the Rangers would come out ahead on such an addition/subtraction equation.

Read more: Larry Brooks: New York Rangers should not trade Michael Del Zotto - NYPOST.com http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/rangers/don_go_it_Gqh4mgpNjxaLlLGS8e8i3L#ixzz2O50nYGfc

Unless its for a top forward in his prime/young forward, the Rangers aren't moving DZ. Ryan O'Reilly made sense. That type of player. Not some guy one year away from group III or an older player. Even in the O'Reilly stuff, the Rangers needed a D to replace DZ. Tyson Barrie was sent to the AHL. Staal's injury makes it impossible to trade DZ.

Gorton isn't trading Kreider.

With the cap coming down, and Boyle's 6.6M hit, even though teams can retain salary... does anyone think he can be had without moving Gaborik?

NO TO D BOYLE . No more Torts good old boys RE TREADS . It's 2013 isn't the tarnish on the 2004 cup ring obvious in Richards and while Feds and Vaclav were serviceable players here they grew long in the tooth . Dropping cap and aging high ticket players is oil and water .....
Stop , get younger , stronger , faster .

D.Boyle move is dumb. Way too. Much $ for a guy who doesn't deliver anymore.

I agree with - younger, faster, stronger

Eminger is brutal . On his ass more than his feet and waddles like a duck when he skates

Eminger is not brutal, heck he's been playing ahead of Stralman. At the same time yea you trade him a deal for sure. I would hope Gilroy or Bickel were gone first though

Boyle, Bickel, Gilroy are the obvious guys they would move. I would think in a Gaborik deal they could put them in as fillers.

Zuccarello may not have much value but I can see a team taking his rights in a deal

a STL deal may work with Gaborik, Boyle, Gilroy for Perron, Sabotka, Cole, pick

Rangers can use a 3rd for a rental F

pray Bickel is moved in a package deal or for a pick

Perron , Richards, Nash
Hagelin, Stepan, Callahan
Pyatt, Sobotka, Miller
Powe, Halpern, Asham/Haley
rental in the mix for a 3rd rounder

McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Cole
Del Zotto, Stralman
Hamrlik, Eminger

Were the Rangers even entertaining trade offers for Del Zotto? Or is Brooks pulling today's column out of his ass?

whenever there's trade rumors MDZ is always in the center of it.. i think its bs.. bc he wasnt even traded for nash and if i was COlumbus i wouldve wanted him over Erixon.. Makes me believe especially Brooks always speculates the MDZ would be the one out the door..

Rangers are very high on him.. no way we trade him unless we're blown away and a team over pays..

DZ is the only offensive Dman on this team so yea Brooks is a moron. Also he's getting better defensively.

I think Brooks is just creating speculation off of his own theory that Del Zotto is only real trade chip. While I don't think the Rangers will trade Del Zotto, he's right in the sense that we're quite thin when it comes to tradeable assets. A couple spare 3rd rounders isn't going to get you much at the deadline.

Really hope the Boyle to NY thing doesn't have any legs and it's just LeBrun speculating based on the Tampa Bay connections. The guy is slowing down quickly and doesn't help our cap situation all that much next season. If it came down to swapping Gaborik for Boyle straight up, I'd keep Gaborik.

Yeah, but even were Staal healthy, we still couldn't afford to trade MDZ. None of Hamrlik, Gilroy, Bickel or Eminger are capable of playing top 4 minutes every night.

We have 3 guys who can play 1st pair minutes. We need one more dman who can play top 4 minutes.

We have 7 players playing more than 20 minutes per game, 3 of them forwards. By contrast, boston has 3 players playing more than 20 minutes per game, none of them forwards. We lack depth both offensively and defensively.

We've seen flashes of offensive brilliance in Del Zotto recently that get you excited about what he can bring to the table a few years from now. Keep in mind he's only 22. Letang at 22 was a 30 point guy. The key to developing a guy like Del Zotto is balance. You don't want him to lose his offensive instincts while teaching him how to defend at the NHL level.

Bashing Eminger is just juvenile. The guy has been OK for us in a tough situation.

In the end, the team has needed one of Eminger/Bickel/Gilroy to step up, and Eminger is the one who has taken control. Noone is expecting him to be a difference maker, but I think hes been a pleasant surprise given the situation.

I think he meant it as he came to the Rangers regardless of what Columbus was trying to pry from us. It was our deal on our terms.

Not a slight at Nash.

Personally, I'm far more interested in the Boyle out of NY thing.

Vancouver would make some sense. But outside of Kassian, I don't know what I want. Maybe one of their defensemen? Don't want Raymond. And hell no to Booth.

Jensen, Hansen, Burrows, Gaunce are also of interest

Just saw Kassian left tonight's game in the first with an upper body injury. Didnt see it or know how severe it was.

He was out for a few games prior to this with a back injury. May have just flared up.

Personally, I'm far more interested in the Boyle out of NY thing.

100% agree. They need to find some hard-working players who have speed in the bottom-6. Miller is the perfect example of a player with some skill and size who can also create a little bit. Pyatt and Boyle don't create anything. Same with Powe and Halpern.

Easiest answer ever...

He's leading the team with 10 goals, creates on most of his shifts, and is a...

MONSTER!

exactly! Nash is everything i thought he would be! and he scores the GWG!

I think he meant it as he came to the Rangers regardless of what Columbus was trying to pry from us. It was our deal on our terms.

Not a slight at Nash.

no. two separate thoughts. And whatever happened to 61 anyway, was knock at him, probably because he hasn't scored in 5g prior to the GWG yesterday.
