Lucic needs to go and Chiarelli needs to be thinking about it now. If not, so be it, Chia's replacement will make it priority no.1. That's the first contract any new GM is going to look at moving.
Nobody's going to take it, that's the problem. At best you're getting back an equally crappy contract.

then why are we putting JP98 in there and taking that bum grabner?

why not just add in a 2019 1st or something. We are supposed to be trying to make our team better.

He's just a toss in. The deal is Puljujarvi for Kreider BUT they have to take Lucic too. Grabner is a bonus.

At 1-1.5 mill retained there will be takers. If Clarkson can be moved anyone can be moved. There have been far worse contracts than Lucic moved.

Lucic might waive his NMC if his family hasn't really settled in Edmonton but if we wait too long, we could miss the boat. The guy seems like he's missing Boston.

He came here thinking he'd get to star with McDavid, that hasn't turned out.

I think his family would be OK moving anywhere in Cali or New York City ... is New York City. Can't imagine the wifey would be too upset.

Clarkson was also moved because of a very special circumstance. Not sure if there is another Nathan Horton out there playing for a poor team that didn't insure his contract.

Vegas might be another spot Lucic might waive for. They're having a lot of fun there from the looks of it, we could retain 1 mill per and take back even more salary from them (Garrison + one of their forwards they want).

No state taxes in Nevada means Lucic earns 500k+ more per year there versus Edmonton and its driving distance to LA, so the fam could settle in there where they already have a house.

Nuge seems to be doing just fine. Hell, he'd probably be doing better if he wasn't saddled with two boat anchors.

2/3 last points are set up or finished by Strome, not sure how much driving RNH is really doing there.

So...Lucic signs a contract with the Oilers and includes a NMC so he can (waive it) get traded in the next season before he even has a chance to know if this team can win a cup?

I have read some daft things on this board but that ranks right up there.

Even if he didn't have an NMC Chiarelli wouldn't trade him. Not a chance.

Its ridiculous.
I have no idea why people are wasting time posting about this possibility. Surely there are a dozen or more realistic things to post about.

I think the truth is he wanted to resign in LA all along. His family loved the beach and warm weather and they had a house there. At the time none of the Cali teams had space for him and Vegas didn't exist.

He saw McDavid in Edmonton and got talked into Chia to sign here thinking he'd be McDavid's LW for the next 6 years.

Instead he's been outplayed by Patrick Maroon and it's not really working out at all for him this year. He may be amendable to move if Chia can find an offer that works in one of the markets Lucic is OK with.

You literally have no idea what he's thinking dude. He's not going anywhere.

It's possible Lucic could be convinced to waive his NMC. I don't understand why you're just assuming he's just going to say no. The guy and family might not even like it here after staying here for a year.

I'd say there's better than 50-50 odds he's not 100% happy here. This isn't what he signed up for and he largely failed in the playoffs last year too and that was the whole point of pride for him in coming here that he'd be able to lead in such a situation. Nope.

Get him close to LA or New York and I think he's cool with going. It's worth having a meeting over as a GM at the very least. This can't be what Lucic envisioned when signing here.

And do any of those teams really have space or want him now? I also don't know that Vegas is a place a family man is looking to setup shop. The City is one thing, but being an expansion team is probably a no go for him.

I posted why its extremely unlikely. It doesnt make any sense...lol

Look...Lucic just signed to play with a GM who he thinks can build a winner and to play on a team with the best player in the world. He thinks that he can win a cup here...thats pretty obvious.

Now he is going to cut bait on all that after one season to sit in the sun? Thats not to mention the fact that LA couldn't (or didn't want to) sign Lucic for $6M last season. Why would they want to inherit that contract now?
Alternatively Lucic is actually going to waive to sign with a perennial bottom feeder in Vegas?
I mean come on.

Its spurious thinking IMO.
