Coming a bit back into reality, I wonder what the asking price for Vanek would be out of Vancouver. A 3rd and a B prospect?

Yes he's a ghost when the games get tough, but considering you've still got 3/4 of the season left before that point arrives he could be a nice cheap fit.

I've been a critic of his but RNH has been the least of the Oilers problems for the most part. I'd like to see more consistent offense from him but he's being weighted down by his linemates and I usually wouldn't use linemates as an excuse for him but he's playing better than his numbers would indicate whereas in the past, I'd say that he was full marks for the mediocre production.
Switch him and Draisatl. Seriously it's about time Leon drove his own line instead of riding McDavid's coattails.

I agree that Draisaitl should be the 2C.

I'd rather try Strome as the 1RW. Strome has played his only good hockey this season on the wing.

Nuge as the 3C and Khaira/Letestu as the 4C.

I'd just move Drai to the RNH/Lucic line and Strome to the top line.
The highest paid player in the league should be able to drive his own line and elevate others. Not that salary should necessarily dictate role but I think it applies here.
This would give the Oilers a 2 line scoring threat for the first time since.....

Either that or as I said before, utilize the center depth and run a McDavid/Drai/RNH 1-2-3 punch and plug in whatever winger you desire on the right side. Mclellan is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit for far too long now. RNH needs help on the 2nd line and the bottom 6 has zero chance of success as currently constituted with a 4th liner and an AHLer centering those lines. Time to wake up Todd and start making the best use out of the roster given to you.

So Chia isn't married to keeping Strome and is shopping Jokinien?

I don't know how if you are Bob Nicholson you can allow Chia to have another off-season.
Well bob McKenzie said the first wasn't true yesterday. I suspect in a couple days for him to say the same about part 2

I don't know that PC really wants him. He was sitting there all summer and didn't sign until Sept. Granted maybe they thought we didn't need him, just seems we might not want him.

don't ask nuck fans about Vanek's price--right after they signed him they were planning to get a 2nd or late first for him and a good prospect

Exactly. Do you guys really believe Sportsnet with everything they say? I take everything with a grain of salt unless it's from Bob Mackenzie, Friedman, or Rishaug, who only report things that are 100% heard right. I don't think Rishaug has come out and said something that was not 100% truth (except for I don't think the Oilers will make a move). I bet GMs have been calling him and asked about Jokinen, Strome, Slepyshev, etc. and knowing Chia, he doesn't say yes or no. Usually gives a blank answer and then hacks from Sportsnet interpret it like he's shopping them. It's as easy to screw that up than you think.

With Shipachev contract terminated. I wonder if we could sign him for cheap. Trade Strome for Rieder and a pick for Leivo. Move RNH to the top line. And play Slepy with Shipachev.

Why are some posters so enamoured with Vanek here. He is garbage. Just no. Its a temporary fix , and we will still lose games. Vanek does not have any speed, and is horrible defensively. Not a good fix.

I would be shocked if anyone has called on those 3 players. Which is why hearing they are being shopped makes sense. He wants to move them and no one has called about them.

If he leaves the VGK he is going to KHL as he would have to pay back his $2 million signing bonus. No way he comes here cheap.

Same can be said about being shocked no one took Reinhart. Vegas was high on him and he would have been a cheap #6-#7 on other teams but he went through. That's your opinion. I don't think he's 'shopping' anyone.

All this Kreider talk makes little sense unless it's like that three-way deal someone proposed earlier. Rangers have no need for another center and require a RW long-term almost as much as we do.

Really the team needs just a couple minor swaps to give it some depth on the wings. Trade Strome for Duclair or Rieder, and Jokinen to Philly for Matt Read. Finally, see if the Rangers would do Grabner for Slepyshev. Chia can re-evaluate the top RW spot later:

Maroon-McDavid-Yamamoto/Puljujarvi
Lucic-Draisaitl-Grabner
Duclair/Rieder-RNH-Read
Caggiula-Letestu-Kassian
Khaira Pakarinen/Malone

We really had no one that was really enticing to take.

Even as we stand today who really was a sure shot better pick? We essentially gave them a 5th round long-term project type of pick

Khaira to Florida for Petrovic (right handed dman)
Slepyshev and a 2nd for Perron.

*I propose Perron trades here everyday and I'm sure you are getting sick of them :p

Stanton on waivers now as per Oilers tweet... There's another player along with Lowe, Auvitu, and so on gifted contracts this offseason taking up space. The Oil have a number of plugs under contract - now at 49 of 50 correct?? Limits our ability to bring guys in for a pick or something. When signing the Stanton's of the world, we need to use AHL contracts to fill out that team. There has to be 8 guys with paper that have ZERO chance of playing in the NHL. Depth DMen have to be better than these guys.

Do we get a contract spot back if Yama is sent to the WHL for the year?? I say "if" because I'm thinking he may stay now... even though I think that is a major mistake.

Khaira is basically worthless. Brings little to nothing in the NHL. Zero chance he brings you a RHD DMan capable of playing in the NHL.

Yup we do get a spot back. Problem is , Chia probably signs Chris Kelly once that spot opens up. :shakehead

Can we please just play RNH with Drai or McD already? So sick of juggling every combination known to man except those and coaches complaining about our inability to find offense. Give it a chance for **** sake. Clearly the 12.5 million generational talent can do something with Maroon and another winger and RNH needs a bit more support and fine, if there's no chemistry you go back but try it out!
