I don't see how it's not he latter, and also how it's not pure cope.
It's hard to tell. Was this said during an interview or a podcast or some format where you could possibly glean some context? All I saw was a tweet which is a detail devoid type of medium.

I'm not pretending that I'm inside Dorion's mind & god knows with Pierre given some things that have happened in the past. I'm just wondering if there might be some context that surrounds that statement.

What a haul if true

LA has undergone such a strange 'rebuild'. They've been at the top of prospect pool rankings done by the likes of Byron Bader and Scott Wheeler for years yet they've put almost no talent into the league that way. Their top picks have largely been disappointments; Turcotte and Byfield especially so.

They've basically rebuilt by acquiring Fiala, Arvidsson, Danault, Gavrikov and now Dubois who they've used to augment Kopitar and Doughty. I guess that's similar to how the Rangers rebuilt.

Interesting to contrast those teams against Ottawa, who have largely hit on their top picks and tried to rebuild in an old-school 'draft-and-develop' type manner.

As much of a fan as I was of the DBC trade at the time, if PD traded a high first for a guy he had no indication wanted to extend here, that's a giant faux pas(again). It's not like we were ready to be a playoff contender yet and it was time to go all in.

Now that we are on the cusp of being contenders, we're likely to trade DBC for scraps, and there doesn't appear to be a proper plan to replace his production in the top-6?

Fire this guy ASAP.

Why can Dubious get that and DBC likely not get anything close?
GMs are infatuated with centers with size who they think they can get "more out of". It's a tale as old as time.

75th in p/gp last year, T-113 since 2017-18. You'd think he was that guy but he's actually more of a second liner, verging on great middle-sixer than anything else. Compared to a guy who's 14th in goals scored in the same time frame, you'd think the goal scorer - in a league that overindexes on valuing goal scoring - would be worth more. I guess we'll see when the trade dust settles.

PLD is a C and having had at least one great playoff performance matters. DBC has, for now, been exposed at a product of Patrick Kane (while still being a fine 2LW who is massively overpaid thanks to Kane).

Also our front office being tiny means there are no leaks. Dorion is an idiot so it is safe to assume we aren't getting much back but all it takes is two teams really wanting DBC to save Dumbrion from himself.

6' 2" and can skate and, when he wants to, can hit. finished as a +5 last year
5' 7", can skate, is soft, does not back check, we have no idea of how he will do late in a season and in the playoffs. finished at -31 last year.

That's odd. I never made that post, someone else did. Yet my name appears on the post as if I said that. I think SpezzDispenser said it per #5703.
Oh crap, my bad, I think I may have had two posts in my response block and deleted yours, but it must have kept the BB code from the quote from you in the background...

I mean, yes he's a C vs a small winger, but that winger has proven he can score at an elite level in this league. Even with a rookie C and a banged up RW.

I don't get this league sometimes. We'll see what the return is, but it HAS to be that DBC won't sign with anyone at this point, which has killed us.

Sucks that the sale finally happened yet we're likely to see practically nothing positive come out of it this off-season. What a letdown.
We're barely in the off-season. Give it at least 2 weeks.

Once it was clear that the board was jerking the potential buyers around and that the sale was taking forever it unfortunately became inevitable.

It wouldn't make much business to curb stomp Dorion this close to the draft and with the DBC situation unresolved.
