I really hope that we are truly the front runners for ROR. :D He would be so amazing to have.

Turris is a centreman, he'd be wasted on the wing

And Turris being less effective has a bearing on the team overall.

Turris would not fare well on the wing.

Once again talking out of your ass. Turris has played on the wing before and he was very effective there. It was a small sample size, but it was done. Turris has all the attributes of a great winger -- good hockey sense, a great shot, good speed and he is defensively aware.

When you also combine that with the fact that he has good chemistry with Spezza it would make our top 6 that much stronger.

IF we're going this route, hypothetically, we need to be sure Turris is OK with this.

No point in unnecessarily angering a guy who for all purposes has been a great fit so far here.

Why would Turris be angry? He played wing in Phoenix on occasion and was great there. On top of this Turris really admires Spezza and has had good chemistry with him. I highly doubt he would be upset at being moved to Spezza's wing.

Can someone explain to me which he's such a coveted commodity?

O'Reilly? Hard working kid with good hockey sense, selke level defence, great faceoffs and is only 22 years old. He still has a lot of upside left and has the work ethic to make it happen.

Strange that Colorado is hedging.

I think it's a Turris situation thing. He did not think he would get the ice time he needed to put up numbers, so he demanded more money then his worth or to be traded.

RoR sees Duchene and Stasney ahead of him for ice time and is asking for more money then his worth or to be dealt.

Interesting comment last evening stating Avs will not pay him as a No1 centre, but they sure want to trade him as a No1 centre.

Assuming the rumours are true and Ottawa is the frontrunner to get O'Reilly...people are wondering why the trade hasn't been made yet or what is going on.

I think it might have something to do with his current injury? Isn't he not game ready yet? Maybe the trade is pending for him to be full health and capable of passing a physical. If we need him in the now no point in rushing a trade when he can't play yet. Especially if we keep gaining leverage by winning...we could have seemed more desperate with a losing streak.

I'm as big a turris fan as anyone and I can't help but think getting o'reilly would be great for his career. Pressure would be less with spezza out, and when spez returns, turris can either play 3rd line centre (as he is paid like one) or switch to spezzas wing. As has been stated, depth down the middle is key and in macleans system, having 3 scoring lines would be amazing. Don't need a traditional shut down line although o'reilly and turris would both be capable in that role

Zack Smith has been great in a shutdown role all year. If we have 3 scoring lines who are very responsible defensively plus a 4th line with a true shutdown center, I dont see what could be better than that. I just dont know what our wingers would look like.

Turris is the team's best defensive forward. He also happens to be a centre. There is no way he'd have the same defensive impact on the wing.

He plays low in the defensive zone, he curls back for breakout... I don't see him being the first forechecker and grinding away along the boards, do you?

Being a good shooter doesn't mean you would be a good winger. Turris is less comfortable by the boards, and more comfortable in open ice, the centre of the ice. Duh, where do you think he should play?

They never play together. Never. Never ever. And that's what you wrote. Talking out of ass indeed.

Turris is the shutdown centre. Most people know this, but just in case

Do you want me to pull out last year's stats?

Changing this guy's position is simply idiotic.

A collection of Turris goals:

(hey look, Turris playing the wing)

Heck, if these highlights were the only ones you'd ever seen of Turris you might swear that he was a winger. Turris is very comfortable coming off the boards despite your fabrication, on top of which he is very good at gaining the puck when battling on the boards because of his stickwork. You don't see him out there forechecking and 'grinding' because that's not his job.

He hasn't played a lot with Spezza, no, but even in the small time that he has been on the ice with Spezza you can see them feed off eachother. Just watch the games. Moving Turris to the wing because of O'Reilly would not hurt this team defensively.

Is anyone else very concerned with trading Weircoch?
ROR better be a great puckmover out of the defensive zone as well as being a "selke level" defensive player while rounding out his huge untapped offensive game since we wont have anyone left who can can pass the puck more than 15 feet to the forwards....

dont know if this is the guy we should be going after but im pretty sure we can be including weircoch in any deal.

Since ROR is supposed to be good, you have to give to get. We don't want to give up a 6'4'' young offensive dman but the trade might be a mix from Wiercioch/Zibanejad/Silfverberg, some combo that's going to make you cringe.

if anyone is changed to the wing, it's ****ing Spezza

For sure. No doubt.

I see nothing wrong with being deep on centre. There is nothing in the rulebook that says Turris or O'Reilly can't play on the '3rd' line.

My only concern is the cost to land him in a trade.

Throw me in the Turris would be wasted on the wing crowd. You'd pretty much be forced to play a big body like Greening on the other flank.
