Okay, and what is he going to look like 3 seasons from now when there's still 4 years on his deal at 6.6M? We're given an amnesty buyout. It doesn't make sense to use it on anyone but Richards.

I just don't see it happening. Plus you do not know for sure what the cap will be like 3-4 years from now. Will it stay the same? Will it increase if the league is profitable? Gaborik's contract will be gone after next year or they will trade him. Or he will re-sign for slightly less money and maybe we can fit him. But as of right now we don't have a premium center to replace richards. And it's not like Getzlaf is going to ask for pennies...

I didn't realize their key need was D, which is why I asked.
Thought they were looking for more scoring.

I realize PP is on the cusp, but I had hoped a 2nd + asset + a D for eventual replenishment would work. But if they are not Phoenix - esque good on D corps depth, then we'd had to give from a shortage.

We aren't going to trade a center who is one of our better faceoff guys and matches up against other teams' top lines, as well as being one of our primary PKers, for an inexperienced, unproven winger.

Shaw would be a great addition but not at the expense of Boyle. Boyle is not expendable. This team needs to add a piece like Shaw WITHOUT subtracting. Unfortunately, Shaw's price is probably higher than it makes sense to pay and he is more valuale TO Chicago than his actual market value would be. It would take an over payment that simply wouldn't make sense.

No the scare with him is that he weighs 170lbs soaking wet, has no muscle, gets pushed off the puck be an opposing players' fart and hasn't been able to put it together. I think he'll eventually be a good player as well, but calling him a blue chip is beyond massive exaggeration.

He's played with good players before and didn't look out of place as evident by his numbers with the Spitfires in the OHL. He has excellent puck handling skills along with vision, I will be shocked if he isn't a regular NHL player some time in his career. He could however return to Lokomotiv and make more dough there though. I rank him as a guy who would be #3 at worst in our prospect pool.

29 goals in 132 AHL games is a "top scorer's rate"? Kris Newbury had 25 in 65 games for the Whale last year. Guess he's a blue chip prospect, too.
