You think the Panthers wouldn't accept a return of JT Miller and a 2nd? Or McIlrath + Fast + 2nd?

The Rangers are absolutely going to need Miller and McIlrath to contribute to the big club as soon as next year. It would be ill-advised to make two trades so close together that include their top prospects.

Everyone complaining about depth.

Solution?

Trade away future depth. Foolproof.

no way id trade prospects for an UFA :help: back to old ways of trading prospects....Rangers already lack depth... Miller and McIlrath will be part of the NYR future... Rangers are far from one piece from the Cup.. they havent played well, and they dont have much depth on the NHL roster..this is where future depth comes in to help.. not trading it for a quick fix.. has that worked in the past... nope it hasnt

I like Weiss, but have no desire to deal for him. Especially not if it involves dealing away the guys who will make this roster solid as we run into cap issues. Draft picks, fine. He's a UFA. I don't want to deal anything more for him, and that precludes us from being in the mix. Leave it alone.

Nick Petrecki. Someone brought him up here last week. Petrecki has been assigned to the AHL on a conditioning stint. He requires waivers. Petrecki counts on the Sharks roster. They don't want to lose him on waivers for nothing.

Andrew Gross reported JFJ scouted the Rangers last 2 games.

Seems San Jose Sharks scout John Ferguson Jr., the former Maple Leafs general manager, is attending his second straight Rangers game. Could mean nothing. Could mean something down the road.

Petrecki played at BC. Jeff Gorton is probably very familiar with him. The Rangers are looking for help on D. Petrecki is a lefty.

Save the trip. #SJSharks -- other than Burns -- not going on ice this a.m.. And Petrecki on loan to WOR for conditioning, stays on roster.

Sharks board saying they are looking for another F, I have no idea what the Rangers could offer at this point. If they want Rupp for Sheppad and Petrecki sure but I dont think many teams want Rupp. Other than that I cant see any other Ranger F going anywhere

Sorry if posted already..

From the trade section of the board...

per George Richards

Quote:
Scouts at #FlaPanthers #Sabres: Chi, Edm, Phil, Col, Mont, #tbLightning, #nhlJets, Pitt, Det, Nash, SJ, Cbs, Phx, Ott, NYR, Ana, LAK, Tor

Could just be that there's not too many game played and they all had nothing better to do....;)

Rupp, Eminger, 3rd, C Thomas and rights to Sam Noreau for Galigardi and Murray. What do we need to add, sign me up though

I like Sam Noreau, he has made real strides this year and there might be a future for him if they give him some time...Rangers should sign him already.

That's like the equivalent if offering a bag of pucks, a dozen dirty jock straps and an Autographed Bobby Granger picture.
No one wants RUPP or Eminger , Thomas has minimal value and Noreau is a fetus

Have you read any of my posts? is Stepan dying? Im not entertaining trading him I want him on my team. All Id like to see is to move him down a line and bring in a guy with more offensive ability to spark the top 6 until Stepan hits his ceiling. Either Antropov or J Jokinen seem like cheap stop gaps that could potentially pay dividends

I'm not saying you're entertaining trading him, read my posts again and stop reading too far into them.

You're replacing Stepan in that role with those two and they're older, more expensive and are plagued with the same inconsistency that griping about with Stepan. That's what I'm trying to say to you.

You're not exactly upgrading by any stretch in any facet. Jokinen is a clear cut better goal scorer, but that's really about it.

Don't be a wise ass here. No one has time for it. I gave you a substantial response as to why you were wrong, or let's say the majority here disagree with you, but in a more humane way; and you ignored a lot of the facts and reasoning behind those facts. You want to live on fantasy island, by all means go for it. But like many have suggested already, this is the NHL of 2013, not a decade ago or two decades ago. 51 points is a more than serviceable 2nd line center. To think stepan is more defensive minded is quite baseless. He may favor the defensive game but many of the rangers players do because that is how Torts runs his team. You can bring in a Jokinen or an Antropov and they could end up looking just as defensive....or they end up getting little ice time because they are not playing the "team" game. And I am not here saying Torts is wrong. I like the way he coaches. But you are looking at these names thinking they will come here and do these wondrous things that for some reason our current players just can't do. Take the blinders off. And not every team has a Crosby and Malkin as a 1-2. Look around at the other ECF teams. Look at the #2 center. Now there will be teams with a better one than Stepan, BUT not many. You talk about our own division, what #2 center is so drastically better than stepan on the devils, islanders, and flyers? Do tell.

But either way after you wrote "dawg" in your post to cover up how piss poor your trade proposal was this is the last time I will try to find the common ground with you, and not so much for me but for the rest of the members here that tried so hard to explain to you the discrepancies in your thought process. Enjoy the season.

But I guess there's time for this?

(Yes I'm going to call him young derek just to make you feel even more like an imbecile).

Do as I say not as I do.. class act. Especially from someone who's "been here so long." It's all good. Let's just agree to disagree

And this is what I'd like to see out of a 2C. I fundamentally disagree that J Jokinen is not an overall upgrade to Stepan at this point in Stepan's career. By all accounts he's a versatile player that is able to play defensive hockey. You also can't discount how important points are in the shortened season (any season for that matter). Jokinen has one of the best shootout %'s in the league. Some of the language in your post suggested you thought I wanted Stepan off the team; if I interpreted wrong then I apologize. I don't see what the issue with these (2) players being older is. If they both have the obvious ability to add more offense to the team than what does age matter? I'm looking for a stop gap until Stepan develops better offensive instincts and both these guys are the definition of that but can still play. Stepan when he's on his game is no 4th liner offensively as we saw last night. Having him on our 3rd lines gives us a 3rd line that can wear on teams and get some good chances. See: 2012 LA Kings/NJ Devils. Both those teams had a bottom 6 that could chip in here and there. I just don't see that from our team. Also, Antropov is a UFA next year so salary is essentially a non-issue. And Jokinen only makes 3M per. We're in win now mode.. that's a (small) risk I'm willing to take on a guy that could infuse offense into the top 6, take pressure off our big guns, and deepen our depth down the middle and on the 3rd line. Not to mention score some shootout goals. How many points did Erik Christensen get us via shootout? That alone made him worth putting in the lineup and J Jokinen is 10x the player EC is.

Here's an interesting name IMO. Darrel Powe who is possibly a healthy scratch for Minnesota. Hard-hitting, forechecking, pain-in-the-ass forward. 3rd/4th liner mainly.

It'll be interesting to see if the Rangers are looking at a vet, or another guy who can grow as a part of the team. They've made a few moves in recent years toward the latter, but they haven't really panned out. Wolski, Lisin, etc. We're light on tradeable assets, so giving them up for pure rentals might not be the best idea. Give up a 3rd for Douglas Murray who almost certainly would go to the open market, or try and wrestle Keaton Ellerby out of Florida for maybe a slightly higher price, but retain him and let him grow with the team.

Why is ryan whitney a scratch for edmonton? I thought the past few years he was one of the few bright spots on their D. Have I been misinformed or is he simply not playing well?

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
Baie Comeau's Petr Straka continues his torrid pace with a 4 pt game (2G+2A) on Sat. In 40GP, he has 32G+29A. 61Pts and +29. He's a UFA.

If he continues, any shot the Rangers can sign him as a UFA? Myles Bell and Andrej Sustr would be nice too.
