He signed the contract under prior ownership...That team is going no where fast...

Yes and he is still signed to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They clearly have a connection.

If you think St. Louis will get traded, that's one thing. It won't be here.

New ownership there clearly has ties to St. Louis considering that he is signed under them. His value is much higher than Gaborik's right now. Unless they are going full tank mode, there is no way they trade him and if they do, it won't be for Gaborik. You don't tank a season and then acquire a high priced player who is over 30 years old.

And he is impossible to acquire unless one of Gaborik, Nash, Richards goes back. This deal just has a 0% chance of happening.
Of course... That's why I said gabby would be part of the deal going back to Tampa

Have you not seen Nash sniping the far post coming don the right side recently ? That is why he plays RW majority his career .

I've had no issues with Nash at all, I'm just saying Gaborik is playing the LW when he's played RW his whole career, and Nash is actually a majority LW his whole career.

I'm not sure my definition of good and your definition of good are the same. For instance, 2 people who are "good" but nothing more than 3rd liners? no thanks, thats redundant especially giving up a guy who has been our best goal scorer since he's been here.. Now if you can get me a Top 3 guy + a bottom 6 + pick + prospect. ok, but not interested in trading Gaborik for "depth guys".
I think right now if Dubinsky and AA were your third line right now and you had Rick Nash and not Gaborik your team is drastically better .
A good in 3 zones C in AA who can put up points and a tough good in three zones Lw/C in Dubi who despite struggling offensively plays hard on the puck and is a good puck mover and can fight , PK, take draws etc I do that tmrw . And guess what 7.5 cap for Gaby and about same coming back for those two

It won't be here!!!! Lol lol lol.... Let's agree that we both don't know....

I will not agree to that because its rather obvious that this deal will never happen. This sounds like something out of an Xbox proposal.

Once again... I said its POSSIBLE that gabby and st Louis could be the center pieces of a major deal...u really believe that's out of the realm of possibility???

It's in the same realm of possibility as Torts beating up Ray Shero and dragging Crosby by his dirt stache back to NY to play for us.

One of the interesting new wrinkles to the trading season this year is the new CBA rule that allows teams to retain salary in trades. The Maple Leafs and Coyotes were the first two teams to take advantage of that rule when Toronto retained a portion of Matthew Lombardi's salary in a January trade that sent the forward to the desert.

New York Rangers assistant GM Jeff Gorton said salary retention has come up in trade talks he's had with other teams, noting that ability is another tool to get a deal done.

"I think it's valuable," he said. "We're in the feeling out stages of that. Some teams are starting to do it. I think it's a valuable piece. If there's a money concern on one team and the other team has the ability to keep it, it's significant. As we move forward it's going to play a big role in player deals."

That's a nice tool in the arsenal for some of the big market teams like the New York, Toronto, Philadelphia and others, although it's still a little early to get a sense of what it's worth. Is it worth the same as a draft pick?

"I guess the guys who have money will say that," said Stan Bowman. "Maybe."

Teams want the Rangers to retain some of Gaborik's salary/cap hit.

Keep trading picks and prospects and you will end up like San Jose. The Sharks traded a #1 pick in 08 for a rental. Brian Campbell. They traded a former #1 and a future #1 for Boyle. They made a good selection in 10 with Coyle. Then they traded Coyle and the 11 #1 in the Burns trade. Then they give Burns a ton of money only to see him play on the wing. The Sharks added Pavelski and Couture as young pieces. Pavelski was a late bloomer from Wisconsin. Couture was a #1 from 07 in the Toskala trade. Top heavy team. No depth on the roster. No young players in the system. Now Wilson decides to supplement the roster with cheaper assets. Boyle is 36 with a nearly $7M cap hit. Clowe doesn't have a goal and has a shoulder injury. Doughty nailed Clowe last week re-injuring the shoulder. Too bad Wilson can't trade with himself.

You hit the nail on the head. No depth, cupboard bare, so you have a team fighting for their playoff lives.

Time will tell

Sorry if this has been answered, but can you retain salary/cap hit for only a certain number of years? Say we traded Richie, can we retain a couple million for 2 years, and then his new club takes over the full contract after that?

Also, can salary retainment be used as a condition? i.e., Rangers will retain 3m of Gaborik's salary this year and if Gaborik fails to meet "x" level of production this year for his new team, the Rangers will be on the hook for 2m next year.

So much of this salary retainment stuff is still unclear, I'm sure there's a loophole here somewhere :sarcasm:

they are trying to win now , they are not trading Gaborik for a 1st and prospects...........they will wait till the draft if thats the best deal they can get

I keep telling you guys, we have to continue to add talent, stop w/the nonsense of win now and add talent later; add it at every opportunity.

I would be happy to hear additional offers for Gabby, I'm staying on topic w/ones from LA.
Would love something around Scuderi, but not sure they do that.

At the moment I think the best deal if offered would be Sens:
Greening + Bishop + Silfverberg + 2nd for Gabby + a 3rd
Zinebejad (sap?) coveted, but not likely made available.

So again, we should be doing this to foster competition of ideas.
What is best LA could offer?

Silfy is going to be a major player in thi league no way he's moving for Gaby

Gaborik for two NHL THREE ZONE players who between them match his cap and 80 pts and bring some physicality and can play from 1st line to 3 line . A prospect or a pick would be cherry on top .

I don't think any of that is possible. I'm pretty sure that at the time of the trade, the original team agrees to keep a portion of all remaining years on the contract, up to a maximum of 50%.

Gabby's salary and cap hit next year is 7.5 mil. We can retain up to 3.75 mil in salary and cap if we trade him. If we retain 3 mil and get a player making 3 mil, that will be a 1.5 mil savings, which would give us a little breathing room next year. And the following year, Gabby's 3 mil would be off the books.

...
As for Gaborik, I just don't see LA as an ideal trading partner. ...
As for Boyle would Chicago be interested in him for Bolland (cap move)? ...

They want to upgrade from Bolland, or in case of Boyle, supplement from the bottom. They don't want to downgrade, particularly atm now in season, even if cap can be improved. Maybe later.

Best deal for Boyle remains my
Boyle to Chicago for Dylan Olsen + 4th
with possibilities to expand

That's odd the late goal off the face off win last year against us was scored from ...... Same RW half boards snipe he been doing here

He was put on the RW just a little over a year ago with Columbus, before that he was mostly LW. He probably likes RW better which is why he's there, I'm just pointing out that he's succeeded at LW before.

T.... However, moving forward, the Rangers have some options coming up through the system:

Hrivik
Fasth
Lindberg
Thomas
McIlrath

And that is not including Kreider + Miller. ...

Fast(h) maybe available theoretically as soon as his team is eliminated, which could be Thursday, according to one of the blogs...

Dorado is 100% correct. Snipers/offense first wingers should be playing their offside. (Nash, Gabs) Grinders, guys who make their living along the wall, and more defensive wingers should be on their correct side. (Cally, Hags)
