It's no surprise to me that Slats is getting calls on Del Zotto. What surprises me is that he's making calls to other teams offering him up

It would be nice if the Wid would offer Spurgeon. Hes playing 3rd pair 2nite it seems with Dumba ahead of him on the 2nd pair and Brodin with Suter

I got that.

I usually never look at their stuff and dont totally buy this...

BUT... i dont think i want havlat. where does he slot in? who does he kick out? Then next year is he tradable? If not, does he block kristo/miller/fast or yogan?

Not the move im hoping for. Much prefer the young investment with long term return.

Not on the Havlat bandwagon, but holding off to see what is exact deal if that happens.

Wanted to add on this I'm not sure as to Yogan. how much we have left on him before he walks. Could be end of this year, I think?

That is one reason why wanna just let Powe/Pouillot/Dorsett go for best return, JUST LET IT GO...

then we can bring up Haley and Yogan with Mashinter. Best 2 of those three play 4th line w/Dom Moore

I'd like Zibanejad, Smith, Greening from OTT and MacDermind on waivers. Change up the bottom six. Get rid of Pyatt/Pouliot/Moore

If the Rangers want Zibanejad they will have to add a nice player. Ottawa will not.

Let's remember Ottawa would not trade Zibanejad for Bobby Ryan in the offseason. Don't think Zibanejad for Del Zotto is happening.

Zibanejad scored on his own rebound, 100% effort, would be nice indeed to have a guy who can get it done in front of the net.

Failing to see any sort of logic behind gunning for Havlat. Why would we have traded Gaborik to go for an older, more injury-prone, worse version of him? Unless Havlat is just some sort of throw-in..but a throw-in with a $5mil cap hit? Are we trading Pyatt and Pouliot++ too? Why would we trade ~3 roster players for Havlat and picks/cheap prospects? Don't see how a deal involving Havlat could possibly fit in with the Rangers from any rational, "This make our team better" standpoint.

AV said he stinks. Maybe his French is bad? He did play 46 of 48 and all 12 playoff games for Torts last season.

For a return like Jookinen last year? Who knows.

I was furious when I saw that article. I can't believe he said that, and not just because Del Zotto is trade bait. AV remains on my poop list.

I really don't understand how it's apparently okay to publicly trash the players you're coaching. Torts with Hagelin (in the playoffs, no less) and now AV, not 2 months into his tenure here after never watching any video of anyone on this team coming in.

what did AV say that everyone is so upset about?

“I have been told he is a much better player,” Alain Vigneault said of Del Zotto, as per the Rangers’ Twitter account. “I have not seen that on a consistent enough basis.

This?

Edit: I quoted this from Mike Halford's article on PHT.

When did AV say Del Zotto "stinks"?

Did he actually say it like that, a la Torts regarding Hagelin last year? Or are you guys just referring to the quote where he said he needs to see more and that people on the team have told him that DZ is better than he's shown? (EDIT: the one Raspewtin quoted.)

Actually it is worse than Torts since he was only talking about the power play. AV says people tell him he was good and he doesn't think so. Ergo, he stinks as a player.

“I can only speak for what I’ve seen so far, and what I’ve seen so far on our team as far as our defensive corps is playing, is he’s fighting for one of the regular six spots,” Vigneault said. “A player like Michael has to play to his strengths. I’ve been told his strengths are his ability to beat the forecheck, join the rush, help out on the power play and get shots through. I have not seen that on a consistent enough basis for him to be able to say he’s going to be in the lineup every night. Some other Ds can have an off night, you’re going to throw them back in even though they have. Michael in the 20 some odd games that I’ve been here has not shown that consistently enough. We’ll see how he responds and we’ll go from there.

“He is supposed to be a skating defenseman that can beat the forecheck, that can join the rush and obviously has the ability to chip in on the power play,” Vigneault added. “That means he can get a shot through, he can see people that are open around the net. I’ve seen that throughout the span that I’ve been here but I haven’t seen it consistently enough to say he warrants a regular spot all the time. I can only go by what I’ve seen and with what my coaches are seeing. I wasn’t here in the past.”

I see nothing wrong here.

Except for him trashing his own player? Especially one he is trying to trade?

What is "trashing"? Saying he's not been consistent? Give me a break. He's a professional hockey player, playing HORRIBLY this season. That criticism is absolutely warranted. Now if he said "he's bad" or "I don't trust him" yeah, that's unnecessary. But this is a slight criticism that a high school player can take.

And funny, no one complained when AV made his moon comment on Pouliot.

It's pretty clear that AV is not looking to trade DZ. And what is wrong with him talking badly about his own player? Del Zotto hasn't played well this year, and AV is letting him know that.

He should still be in over Moore who has been MUCH, MUCH worse. Only reason MDZ is benched instead is because of all the talk of MDZ's potential.

I don't know why Edmonton trades Perron, who they just acquired in the offseason. I would have loved to have gotten Perron or Bobby Ryan in the offseason but both of those ships have probably sailed.

The names that make sense now are Zibanejad, Coyle, Connolly, etc if they are gettable. If not maybe you can get Zucker, Nyqvist, etc.

Trading Perron allows them to improve their defence while not moving any of the top 4 guys in Hall, RNH, Eberle or Yakupov.

The fact that he's having the season he's having only means they can improve on the asset they gave up to get him.

I don't think they view Perron as an untouchable asset by any stretch of the imagination just because he was acquired in the off-season.

If they can improve the team without parting with their core group, I see no reason they don't pull the trigger

Hemsky is not going to get them what they want and they are not going to part with the multiple young assets needed to get them what they need now.

This I agree with.

Moore has been unspeakably bad these last 10 games.

I don't have an issue with AV's comments.

What I do have a problem with is that it seems like someone in the organization is feeding AV inaccurate info about DZ - he seems very surprised about DZ's inconsistency regarding his offensive ability, his shot, and PP ability. DZ's struggles with consistency has been a problem since he came into the league and one would assume that the organization would have informed AV of this.
