And I'm glad we didn't deal Prust at the deadline in his walk year because we ended up going to the ECF.

We went over this with you in the GDT yesterday and you kinda just gave up on the argument when a bunch of us basically explained to you that you cannot always maximize your UFA's to be. Sometimes it is better to just hold onto them and take your chances for the sake of the team needs.

i understand that but players rights do get traded from time to time.. maybe a team after the draft might need a checking center and might want to make a trade instead of taking the chance of have a signing competition with the player.... if a team is desperate for a certain player and offers a legit return that cant be turned down, time to get dealt..

people were saying the same thing about Blair Betts that are saying about Brian Boyle.. its like checking centers dont come around so often :sarcasm:

remember this trade Washington Capitals traded the rights to Dennis Wideman to the Calgary Flames for Jordan Henry and a 5th round selection in 2013.

Okay....but that's not what you just said. You're contradicting yourself. You just posted before that the Rangers need to trade Boyle because he is a FIRST TIME UFA at the end of the year...thus implying he is going to test the market regardless. So why would a team trade for his rights at the draft? Are you that naive that someone will overpay him to the point where he won't test the UFA market? You claim players like Boyle come around all the time (though I disagree with him being the same as Blair Betts; Boyle is much better), so why would a team overpay him?

You are circling the wagons here. Boyle is better than Betts, but not in the same stratosphere as Dennis Wideman. A team was willing to overpay for Wideman just as Calgary did. No one is overpaying for Boyle.

I'd rather keep him.

That kind of thinking gets teams into trouble. Miller "might" be better than Nyqvist eventually, but this is a team looking to win in the short term. Nyqvist helps us do that now, and makes us better in the future. If Miller grows into a similar player, great. Then we have two of them. I'd rather have Nyqvist with a potential clone developing in the AHL than just the hope that Miller might turn into one.

I have to question your analysis of Nyqvist though. He's hardly an energy player. He's a very gifted, offensive talent. Excellent playmaker and a capable finisher. He'd absolutely be an asset on the powerplay.

I have not seen much of Nyqvist the last year and a half, but we have to agree to disagree on Nyqvist ability to run a PP etc.

You know, given the new outlook of this team, maybe a kid like Nyqvist with a bundle of speed and puck ability could push us in the right direction. I think depth is our strength right now, and we would certainly get more of that and speed with him.

maybe Del Zotto to Carolina for Tlusty??

Rutherford wants a puck moving D and has put those 2 forwards on the block to try and get it.

Hurricanes have made Ruutu & Tlusty available - Flames have made Backlund available

He said this info on the 6 PM ET SportsCentre.

4 or 5 teams called for Michael Backlund.

Just checked his stats. 6 points in 22 games and outside of last season Tlusty's been nothing special.

Neither of those guys from Carolina are enticing. At least not for DZ.

Backlund, maybe. But a big maybe.

Tlusty is a lot more enticing than Backlund. Carolina's offense sucks, and Tlusty is mainly a finisher, which would explain the low totals. He'd be perfect on this team.

I'd be hesitant to give up DZ for him, though, unless another nice piece was coming back.

If you're confident that last season was more representative of what he is as a player, I'd want a serviceable bottom pairing D-man included and I'd think about it. I'm weary of a player that had one great year after having a career high of 36 points and now has 6 points in 22 games, no matter how bad the team's offense is. Everyone is pulling their hair out with Brassard but he's a playmaker playing with 4th liners (Pouliot is that at best right now) and still has more points than Tlusty. Brassard's offense last year with the Rangers is forgotten. For some reason Brassard is just an inconsistent player and Tlusty is just playing on a bad offense.

After watching him dart around the offensive zone against us, I want Ryan Murphy.

So do I. He's always a standout when I watch the Canes play. Tlusty/Murphy for DZ. Doubt Carolina goes for it, though. They need more players like Murphy, not less.

So Tlusty has approximately a 0.40 career PPG, including last season's 38 points and Del Zotto as a defenseman including his sophomore season and this season, has a 0.42 career PPG. Del Zotto has 4 points in 17 games this season, Tlusty has 6 points in 22 games. Del Zotto is -4, Tlusty is -7. The Canes need to add I would think.

Perhaps something like this would work

Carolina:
Michael Del Zotto
Benoit Pouliot/Taylor Pyatt (please?)

New York:
Jiri Tlusty
Victor Rask
Brett Bellemore

Backlund interests me. Calgary would have to add for sure, maybe Glencross ? I know he's hurt now. If we threw in Poo and Pyatt ? Not sure on salaries.
Just to the point now where I think DZ almost has to be moved, both parties will be better off short and long term.

Dreger's twitter says Carolina is offering Tlusty and Ruutu in a deal for a PMD.

I'd be willing to add a little bit from our side to get Murphy, very good PMD in the making. Skates well and can QB the PP.

I think it would be a solid deal, Tlustly and Murphy for mdz. Tlustly is quite good so is Murphy cheap with potential.

**** no to Tlusty and Ruutuu. Teams don't want to give up their valuable players and expect to get a good return - keep trying. Carolina is trying to dump these two to save money mad they are underperforming. Good luck with all that.
