Sounds like most trade proposals. Maybe they should develop one of those defenders to be a top 4 guy. What happened to Schultz who we highly coveted? Ference and Nick Schultz are vets. Are Petty and others that bad? Maybe they should have traded MPS for a good defender and not David Perron. They have assets, but their management is dumb. No team will make a deal giving up good pieces for their fodder. Maybe at the deadline, but not now. Edmonton reminds me of a young Penguins team. Good forwards, but no defense and goaltending. They are building from the front back. Not the right way.

Even if we do end up with a top5 pick, what are the chances of the player we pick to be an immediate starter? The reason those high picks usually start immediately, is because the crap teams that get to draft first are piss-poor, not necessarily because they are head and shoulders above the rest

they cant keep all their young impact forwards and think they can improve the blue line. wont happen. somethings gotta give for 2 reasons.
first, they cant all play. eventually, yakupov will resist. i dont think hell react well to a demotion to the A. this is gonna force their hand and weaken their trading position.
second, you gotta give to get and they do have players that will bring back immediate quality blueline help. del zotto doesnt help them. hes not what they want or need. they need a presence back there to stabilize the blueline.
as much as we are hearing they dont want to move yakupov, i still believe he was and is available but that the right deal/offer didnt present itself. gm's are bottom fishing here knowing hes unhappy and that edm needs to shake things up. there probably want a viable deal available so hes been pulled back.
this organization will maker a move of some sort. they are desperate for help defensively. jobs will be lost if they continue to be embarrassed like they have been recently.

I think he has stolen a couple of trade ideas from bernmeister. He never goes that extra step though and flips the newly acquired player for a 1st or future star talent like he's supposed to.
