You don't get players like you mentioned for pending UFA's. You have to hope to get a very good young player + pick. Tatar + 1st. Palmieri + 1st. That type of package would be a coup if the Rangers don't believe they can get either player under contract for something reasonable.

Then why deal them if we only get crap in return. Might as well let them walk.

I mean, it sounds like we can't risk them walking for free when we could get assets for them.

That is not assets, it's crap. Given that POO and Miller is playing well, I am not even sure who half the guys mentioned would replace if we dealt Cally for them. Tatar, decent RW, but nothing special. Would bump POO but I am not even sure if it's a de facto upgrade on the ice. The same with Palmieri.

Slats won't trade Cally or Girardi for crap, neither should he. Better to let them walk.

How the **** are Palmieri, Tatar, and first crap?

Oh but that's right. Keep dreaming that Dan "Turnover" Girardi and Ryan "I can't stay healthy" Callahan will bring you Landeskog and Galchenyuk on silver platters.

Konopka is not a legit heavyweight. Konopka is about Prust's size and weight. About Prust tough but if I remember right they have met before and Prust won easily. Prust is also a lot better hockey player. Konopka is a guy who was a pretty good AHL'er about on the level of Newbury. He was able to find a niche in the NHL because he fought a lot more than Newbury and as a face-off specialist. Konopka's tougher than Dorsett but again not as good of a player.

It wouldn't break my heart if the Rangers grabbed Zenon but I'm not sure how he'd fit into our lineup or at all----he's just not a real heavy.

we all know Sather will overpay to keep both Girardi and Callahan because they are " heart and soul" Rangers

It's craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap. Crapidi-crap. Crapppp.

And BTW, wasn't I the one who said Girardi and/or Callahan would NOT bring us Galchenyuk or Landeskog? I am a bit confused here.

Palmieri is extremely overrated. 30-40 pts 2-way player. Can hold a sweater on a decent team.

Tatar is a 1-way forward who never will top 60 pts.

A late 1st is a lottery ticket.

Look, I said that it might make sense to make a trade. However, I am not so sure we get a bounty for either. Go back and read the posts made before mine, one of them mentioned bounty. I am not so sure we can get it. Odds are that we will get the typical very avg return for them.

Look at what Atlanta got for Kovalchuk and Hossa. Look at what Boston got for Thornton. Give it some time and you will see that it's all crap.

If Slats can get a real good return and you feel that you have the pay the player too much, make the deal. If not, resign them.

Callahan's cracked 50 points once and the team would acquire his rights for a couple months, so I wouldn't find those players too insulting.

Right. Tatar has done nothing but produce when he was put on the top like because of injuries. Palmieri I don't like as much, but calling him "crap" is too much.

You know what has been crap though? Girardi's defense. Callahan's compete level.

You wouldn't trade them unless you're getting Landeskog in return? Keep dreaming then. Because it would never happen. And I don't want to pay breaking down bodies 6 million for the next 7 years. If you feel differently, then I don't know what to tell you.

and meanwhile we will have not much cap for more offense which we desperately lack again

We had a ton of cap space from 05' to 10'.

What offense did we ever get from it? Näslund? Wolski? Gomez? Drury? Clowe?

Look at the UFA market. There are no players available. And we all know that it can be a bit sour sweet once you sign them if we decide to outbid everyone.

Nobody else can sign any UFAs either. So who are going to trade their offense to us? Or are we using Ana's future 26th overall pick to draft offense? A kid born in 95'. Or will Palmieri give us the offense?

Maybe Slats can rob someone, Nashville got F Forsberg for Erat. Maybe he can get Cally and G to sign cap friendly deals. That are good options.

The avg player and a pick option sucks and the letting them walk option sucks too. Paying a mil a year too much might not be that bad of an option.

Look a Prust. One of our worst moves in a decade was not resigning him.

Come to think of it, have we EVER resigned someone in NY and regretted it?

Can someone come up with ing single example? It seems like we always give up on guys, and NEVER try to build a team here in NY.

The above is re my

Don't make the mistake of letting something like that deter us from improving in total talent.

If you think we give up too much value, which you have to expect for a JVR, that's one thing. But don't not do a deal cause you need to follow up.

Kenopka and Prust met up 4 times already. 2 of the scraps were draws, Prust got the better of the last 2 fights.

Agree that Prust is a better player too.

I guess I wouldn't mind Kenopka here. Not sure though at this stage if he is an upgrade over Asham though. He can win you draws but Asham might be the better all around player/fighter.

Rozsival.

Well uh if AV can churn out offensive players from ELCs and low contracts like he's doing with Kreider, Zucc, and dare I say at least for the time being, this is the reason why he has a contract Pouliot...
well that's what a good offensive coach ought to do.

Going into the season I thought Brassard would really benefit from AV, but it looks like Zucc is that guy along side Kreider.

Jeez I didn't realize Girardi and Cally were the pieces of crap you make them out to be. Girardi is the second best defenseman on this team. I think everyone ere saying he doesn't fit AVs system and is awful are really selling him short. He's a homegrown, warrior and is the second best D on the team. Not every player needs to be traded for assets when they turn 30. If you can lock G up at a reasonable cap hit for 5 years you do it. He is an extremely solid defenseman and he gets **** on so much around here that it's ridiculous. People let the mistakes he make define him, even if they are few and far between. People only see he negative. Girardi is he second best d man on the team and if he can be signed to a decent contract you do it.

Cally is a little different becaue of the injuries. Still he is the heart and soul of the group and I think he should only get traded if his contract demands are too high.

These are two guys you want on our team as long as the contracts are reasonable. It gets a little annoying that people want to trade these guys just to trade them. I say look to sign them to reasonable contracts first. Only trade if absolutely necessary. Remember there is never a guarantee that assets such as prospects and draft picks will make the NHL let alone be better than Girardi and Callahan. And I'm sorry to the pro tanking crowd but it will not happen for the next 7 years. As long as Hank is in NY we will be in win now mode (whether we are close or not). So adjust your expectations accordingly.

And i don't think he was saying Girardi or Cally WILL get you Landeskog or Galchenyuk. He's sayin they are that important to the team that they shouldn't be traded unless we get a massive overpayment (such as those two guys). I tend to agree with him. Too many people on here simply want them gone for anything.

RangerFail- I am not sure what you are smoking. Do you seriously believe that Colorado would trade Landeskog to us? He is their captain. You keep your captains.

Oh, and please don't tell me you could trade Callahan for Landeskog in NHL 14', I don't care.

We are not getting guys like that for a soon to be UFA.

Rozsival.

Wasn't worth the cap percentage, but he was a solid top 4 defender on teams that made the playoffs.

I don't think of the cap as my own bank roll. In any business you can take on a burdensome contract if you have others that aren't costing you a ton.

It's not as if the Rangers are the Islanders after all.

Splats will wildly overpay for Girardi and Cally, and we will end up losing Zuccarello or someone else valuable. The only good that could come of it is that, after spending far too much on those 2, Splats will have no choice but to buy out Richards.

No. That's actually exactly what I wasn't saying.

And Girardi is the second best defenseman on a terrible team! Hurray!

Just because it's been a few games since the last Ranger took a headshot (Lundqvist from Kunitz), doesn't mean that need isn't still there.

wow never really looked at konopka's stats. 11 goals in 287 NHL games. not many more assists. Just what we need.

The funny thing is that you think getting Konopka would be some kind of deterrent.
