Brilliant. When the center gets tossed out of the faceoff circle, it won't even matter.

We should corner the market on faceoff specialists. Maybe Toews is available. :sarcasm:

imagine if the Rangers just had a team of Brian Boyle who just PK and won faceoffs at least they wouldnt lose many draws.

Hint: Boyle is 56.2% on faceoffs. Moore is 55.4% on faceoffs.

Why do we need a 3rd faceoff guy who can't score?

Boyle is playing wing. You get an upgrade, a guy that gives you different sets of assurances. D. Moore becomes a 2nd round pick. Or Boyle becomes trade bait.

He is better as a 4th line center for the Rangers, for those minutes, than what they have right now.

8-11 Minute 4thline center that does what he does, and is great at it.

And he costs no assets other than cap space.

As far as puck possession goes? A faceoff win gives the team the puck. AV rode Malhotra the same way in Van to the cup.

D-Zone draw, call in the specialist, move it up the ice. Put out a rested Sedin. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.= more offensive zone time.

Outside of Bergeron, the guy is the best in the league at faceoffs.

To answer why he has so few? Because he's a 4th line center. He isn't going to take offensive zone draws.

Not signed for next year. No liability if it doesn't work out.

This minimizes the affect of icings. Guys can buy time if a bottom line or D get pinned in. It's been a big reason why Boyle gets those extra shifts and not take faceoffs. He's the assurance incase that happens.

A clean faceoff loss equals Dzone time with the possibility of HQ scoring chances after an icing. Situations like that are when the team gets scored on.

Wing or center, Boyle still takes a lot of draws. You claim that Konopka is an upgrade on Moore, and we're somehow going to turn Moore into a 2nd round pick after claiming Konopka on waivers? Where's the logic in that?

He is better as a 4th line center for the Rangers, for those minutes, than what they have right now.

His faceoff % is better, but he doesn't kill penalties and he's even more offensively challenged than Boyle and Moore.

Then why is he being waived?

Not true. He takes up 1 of 50 contracts that may be better used elsewhere.

Great. Why can't we do that with Moore and/or Boyle? You also fail to mention that the year vancouver went to the finals, Malhotra put up 30 points and killed penalties in addition to being great on faceoffs. He and Konopka aren't remotely comparable.

How come there is no trades yet? I thought half of the team was changed by reading some posters here.

We signed eleven different Zenon Konopkas - kind of a strange person to clone, but it happened.

Konopka-Konopka-Konopka
Konopka-Konopka-Konopka
Konopka-Konopka-Pouliot
Konopka-Konopka-Konopka

Could there be a deal made around JVR for McDonagh?

Virtually all of us would decline, and quite a few bonkers Leafs fans also decline. Leafs suddenly have a much better defense while still having goal scorers, meanwhile our defense falls apart.

Wing or center, Boyle still takes a lot of draws. You claim that Konopka is an upgrade on Moore, and we're somehow going to turn Moore into a 2nd round pick after claiming Konopka on waivers? Where's the logic in that?

Great. Why can't we do that with Moore and/or Boyle? You also fail to mention that the year vancouver went to the finals, Malhotra put up 30 points and killed penalties in addition to being great on faceoffs. He and Konopka aren't remotely comparable.

Yes the 2 goals Boyle and Moore have combined to score in half a season is really really really being downgraded on.

Once again, for what a 4th line player is and what he's supposed to do, you get a certain set of assurances with Konopka that you don't over the others.

Yes Moore and Boyle are better players, players to cash in on, but for where they are and what they do as 4th line players, you get more out of Konopka and one of them, and trading a piece, then you don't.

It's from the perspective of upgrading the team as this guy fills a need giving upgrading the current roster.

IE a known quantity.

He is one of those guys that gets fired up for a stretch and gets comfortable under a contract, perfect situation of maximizing what's available out there.

A .500 team and franchise needs to get better, and this is one way to do it. Minnesota gift wrapped a role player.

Watch Pyatt be serviceable in Pittsburgh. Sometimes players just don't fit in some places. Pittsburgh knows he can play against Boston and the heavier teams and give them solid 5v5 minutes. He isn't good for anything more, but an undersized bottom 6 in PIT had a need for Pyatt. Thus the claim.

In NY. Pyatt was useless. I've voiced that a number of times and saw no place for him in NY.

Why does PIT pick him up?
Because Tanner Glass and Jason Megna aren't going to check the McQuaids and Boychucks of the world off the puck and win board battles.

I dont think there's more than 10 to 20 players in the league that I would give McD up for...
Crosby, P. Kane, Tavares, Perry, Ovechkin, Malkin, Toews, Seguin, Hall, Giroux, Karlsson, Stamkos, maybe Pietrangelo or Kessel.

This is factoring in age and contract too. Suter, D. Keith or Weber are a few years older and cost more $ so I like McD better.

Thoughts?

Once again, for what a 4th line player is and what he's supposed to do, you get a certain set of assurances with Konopka that you don't over the others.

Lol, ok. You just keep talking in generalities. What are these set of assurances that Konopka provides over the others? Please enlighten us all.

I can assure you that he won't kill penalties for us. Who takes Boyle's or Moore's minutes on the PK?

He won't be a front line PK option, but when you have Callahan and Zucc, scorers that can PK. It's not that big of a drop off.

The guy is a legitimate heavy and a faceoff monster. This teams been pushed around and Dorsett is nursing a bad wrist, and the rest of the "Goons" aren't really "goons", they're nice guy tough. Rangers will need to match up against the "thugs" on the other team.

No one on the Rangers followed up after Nash 3 concussions and all went after Ovechkin. None. Can't have that fly.
