I hardly call the Gaborik trade a bust. Gaborik has done nothing but get hurt for the Jackets. Dorsett has given us a real good 4th line wing. Brassard has been fantastic on our second powerplay unit with 4 g and 9 A. Moore has struggled but he's still young. Plus Brassard was by far out best player in the playoffs last year.

15 games or so of Brassard's playoffs last year doesn't make him better than what he's been his whole career, a 3rd line center, and he's not going to get any better than that.. I'd be pissed if we signed him as a RFA especially anywhere near his QO

I mostly agree, but it would also have to depend on where 5 pts out landed them in terms of draft position. If they end up being the best or next best team who missed the playoffs, I agree, but if missing it gets them an 8 - 10 pick, I'd rather that.

Isn't the success rate of 6-10 picks about the same as the 11-20 group? In other words, unless we are talking top-5... And really top-3... I'd rather make the playoffs.

Brassard is the only center on this team who combines any type of skill and speed. Maybe hes a little inconsistent at even strength but who isnt. He was big boost to the PP at the end of last season and had a big playoff. Hes since set up shop on the 1st PP unit this season. Makes perfect sense not to qualify him because he isn't the typical mold of a 2nd or 3rd line center that some Ranger fans have created out of thin air

I think the modern fan base places too much emphasis on formulating a players value based on his contract, cap hit, etc.

I want players who will help the team win. My only "short term" goal for the team is to win The Cup as soon as possible and I'm ok with a 3 or even a 5 year timeline as long as there is a clear plan and we continually make progress towards the goal.

IMHO too many fans today are deciding whether or not they like a player based on whether or not they like the contract. Everyone is an authority but no one can agree on anything.

I only care if the player will help the team win. I'm tired of people booing "contracts". We do ourselves a diservice by dismissing players who could potentially help the team to reach a "big picture" goal.

I'm not sure on the numbers, but success rate is probably based on NHL careers, and not ceilings or potential. You could find elite talent in late rounds, but I feel like top 10 probably has a higher chance at not just an NHL player, but a very good one. Also I would say picking top 10 just nets you a better chance of landing your guy, or even trading up for a top 5 pick with your top 10 to get your guy. Not that you couldn't do it with an 11 - 20, but I feel like you'd be giving up more to trade up the higher your pick is.

I'm not sure there is any clear place to draw a line statistically, but that's where I've drawn mine I guess. First round exits aren't that exciting to me. I'd have to put more stock in to the "anything can happen" mindset and I'm not very high on it.

Its either pay Callahan and/or Girardi or trade one of them or both or allow one of them or both to leave as free agents in the summer. Its January 1 and both of them are unsigned. The Olympic break is 5 weeks from this Friday. 36 days away. Trading deadline is March 5. 63 days away.

MDZ is in his 4th year in the league. At this point, his positional play should be sound which is not. His first pass needs to be better. MDZ has talent but it is time to go to another organization. Connor Allen has just passed MDZ on the depth chart. I would trade him out west to Colorado. If we could get a late first round pick or a second and a decent prospect, I would pull the trigger. I think MDZ might flourish under Patrick Roy. MDZ will not be a good Dman for the Rangers. Slats, time to stop overvaluing him and make a deal before his value goes down even furter

I think he's regressing, he's been in the league long enough, that he should be playing smarter, Conor Allen is very calm, poised, makes crisp passes and definitely seems to play more like a veteran than Delzotto...

Must keep in mind one fact: hockey is a business. It's about turning a profit. Playoff games are big moneymakers. Even if you go out in the first round after two or three home games, you've made a tidy sum. Few businesses will turn down the chance to make short term profit rather than forgo that profit for the possibility, and in sports long term success is never, ever assured, of success two, three, or more years in the future.

If we are a bubble team come the trade deadline, we will be buyers not sellers. It's all about the "now." It might drive fans crazy, but we don't pay the freight.

It's not like, say, a drug company with a new drug in the experimental and testing phase. Once it goes to market, profits are assured for many years.

Investing in 18 year old kids or 30 year old UFAs doesn't bring that same guarantee: to many variables, to many things you can't control.

So taking that profit when you have the opportunity becomes a valid business model.

That's just the way it is.

Until people stop going. Once that happens all the fringe fans and hipster idiots will find something else to attend. Maybe that's what this team needs. A purge from the team down to the fans.

There it is. People have to stop paying dolan the money(tickets,jerseys,etc..). Stop supporting his habit.

Won't happen. At this point, the Rangers will sell out and be a good draw on TV no matter what the team does.

This for sure. Hope it is Colorado for him. He's immature and need some brainwashing, at this point. And I hope the best for him as well!

I agree with this completely. I actually refuse to take contract into account when evaluating a player in season. Once the games start, it's a meaningless conversation.

Rangers tickets are too expensive for the crappy product on the ice right now.

So we can stop throwing Pyatt in proposals. Hopefully tbay takes him to play w his bro but I doubt anyone does.

So who sits for Cally? Moore I guess ?

Since when are the Rangers a good draw on TV? This team still gets pushed to MSG2 when the putrid Knicks are playing. Also, my brother is a season ticket holder. He is finding it harder this season to offload tickets than in previous years.

That the Knicks are more popular doesn't take away that the Rangers draw well (for an NHL team) when they're on. The team is 14th of 24 US teams in ratings, but are much higher in total households. There's a reason why sponsorships are so lucrative for the team.

Your story about your brother is essentially meaningless. The team hasn't been playing well, so it's not as big of a draw, but the arena is still sold out every night, partially because people like your brother bought season tickets. Dolan really couldn't care less if no one was in the arena if all the tickets were still sold.

It's clear to me as a 10+ year season subscriber that there has been far less demand for tickets this year. During nearly every broadcast and just about every time I go to NYR.com they are advertising tickets for upcoming games. And from what we've heard here, the Rangers dump all their excess inventory for pennies on the dollar to ticket brokers in order to claim the game is a sell out.

The wild card with after-market ticket sales/value is a fringe fan base that is probably 2-3 times larger than the core. When the teams wins a certain amount games, or gets momentum in the playoffs, and/or gets a lot of hype from the press about how good they are going to be, the fringe starts to want in. When a tipping point is reached, demand can skyrocket, especially since much of the fringe has deep pockets and wants to say "they were there" when the team gets on an epic roll. "I was at that game!"

If this franchise were ever to put together a string of seasons like Detroit with a few Cups sprinkled in, season tickets subscriptions would be almost impossible to get.

Hockey is growing, there is no way to bleed Dolan dry at this point. With every jaded fan there will be 10 more new ones. It's about as realistic as a rebuild.

I want to see Brassard in the playoffs again. If he can prove to be a guy who steps up in the playoffs I would keep him for that reason alone. We have little offense as is and what we do have completely dies in the playoffs. If Brassard can be a playoff performer I would resign him.

I get texts before EVERY game from the Rangers about tickets being available, or about tickets "just released" for the next game. There are commercials about tickets on every broadcast. It did not used to be that way. A good parallel to look at is Yankee tickets. Price them through the roof and, when they don't sell, dump them on the reseller market. BTW, I live in CA, so don't take advantage of these "deals."
