Rumor: Trade Rumors & Proposals Thread | No More Pacifism For the Oilers?

Yeah he did actually, just because a goalie makes saves look routine because they're good doesn't mean they're not good saves. Bouchard had several point blank chances, McDavid had the puck on a string and was setting up a lot of good looks.

Bouchard shot it in his chest and missed the other wide. 2 of Ana goals went top shelf where mom hides the peanut butter

Well, again how did you think this was going to work?

That the team was just going to make due with back up goalies every year and never have a breaking point?

You were just going to keep going to Cup Finals with Dan Cloutiers in net? Was that the plan?

What's happening is normal actually. Skinner needed to have the kind of season where he steps up and cements himself as a bonafied starting goalie, ideally a pretty good one. That was the whole song and dance we were sold last year no? You can't be too hard on Skinner! He's young! Wait till he gets more exerperience!

Well he's had the experience of a Cup Final now and game 7 no less, and he's come back with a worse season than the previous two. With a team coming off a grueling previous season, this is the last thing the team needed. It's like being asked to walk 10 km after you're already exhausted ... that would suck in and of itself, now imagine being told you'll be walking all uphill.
your wacky theory would hold water if they played like crap all year, except they were the best team for 2 months...you don't wake up one day and say as a group "you know what, we are winning a lot of game but screw it, I'm tired of our goaltending so let's just not try hard anymore and play stupid hockey"

This is my "glass half full" prayer when looking at the situation.

There is some sort of COVID adjacent illness going around. It's taken someone at our office out for two weeks and all he has to do is sit in front of a computer (he's also not one to bail at the first sign of illness). Ekholm was clearly sick, McDavid appeared clearly sick, and even to this day we have guys skipping practice and taking days off.

Lets hope this is a big part of the problem and its not just that these fools are playing at half pace.

Honestly I hope this is true. I just got rocked by covid like flu. Knocked me on my ass for 5 straight days, still recovering like 10 days later. Could def be it.

I will say, one thing this team has been consistently good at over the last several seasons is pushing hard when they are down in games. I haven't seen that at all over the last month. Once they're down, they basically just skate around until the game is over. McDavid and Draisaitl still push, but it's not nearly as strong a push as we're used to. Definitely points to fatigue or illness imo.

You're not going to answer the question because you're going to chicken out, but I'll ask again straight up.

You tell me which team at present in this league would have better results than the Oilers have had the last 3 years given the goaltenders in net.

You think the Panthers make a Cup Final with Skinner in net? Let alone two?

We are trying to win a Cup with Dan Cloutier in net, there's nothing wrong with admitting the truth.

Amusingly, the Oilers have one defenseman with a positive goal differential over this stretch and it's John Klingberg.

Like always the teams garbage goaltending is making things look worse than they actually are but pretty much all of the teams highly paid players have been a heavy minus over the last month. Just not going to win like that.

It's funny because the other day I was thinking that the defensive collapse started the moment Klinberg got here, and another poster pointed it out last night. Klingberg wasn't obviously a problem other than moments here or there, but I wondered if it had some sort of impact beyond what I was seeing.

Then I saw the analytics last night haha. He's been fine individually I think, it's just coincidence that his teammates seemed to have decided to stop trying when he joined.

lol flawed stat...like I always say not all high danger chances are created equal...Oilers gave up multiple breakaways, 2-on-1...they left players open in the slot and allowed MacTavish to be all alone front while 3 Oilers were behind the net on the 4-1 goal

did Dostal have to make a single hard save last night? no
What part of the oilers having 10 High danger chances not comprehend to you? There was numerous times in the game where Dostal made big saves. He made the saves. Pickard gave up 4 goals on 8 shots. Which team in the league would succeed with that kind of goaltending?

Which is fine. He needs to stop that 2nd goal. Period. Team doesn't have the confidence right now to fight back from a bad goal against/night.
100% right. He does.

but in the long run it didn't matter because the team. cant defend and they let the ducks in front of the net uncontested all night and they scored 2 goals directly because of it. Then you add in all the bad pass, odd man rushes and braindead moments of being out numbered in the box and you have more of an issues than the 2nd goal.

Here's the thing about the HDSC stat. How many actually reached the net? Was there anything the Oilers produced that was as good as GA#4?
