All in seasons where he played 21 or less games. I don't see how he can honestly be trusted to be the back-up unless you bring in a 60+ game starter. Do you see one of those out there?

I think Bernier would be capable of around 60 starts, and I'd be comfortable with giving Scrivens close to 20. Craig Anderson is a bit of a gamble, but I'd also be comfortable with him and Scrivens in the crease next year.

I don't really expect to have much confidence in the goaltending next year. We are probably going to get either a mediocre, overpaid #1 or somebody that still hasn't proven they can be a #1.

So was the rest of the team. Perhaps we should replace them all also
I know you want to, but it's easier to replace the goalie. They aren't invested in him much.

And if you really actually think about it, they did replace the team, Nicholson, Chiarelli and McLellan.

I think Scrivens will have a bounce back year. I don't think he can be a starter but he should be able to provide 30 quality games under an actual NHL system.

Have to put my two bits in on Thornton... I don't know if he's available and even if he is.... obviously it all depends on the cost to acquire him... BUT he definitely would be an immense addition.

It would give the oilers superb depth down the middle and to those saying it would be overkill down the middle with Thornton-RNH-McDavid-Lander-Gordon-Draisaitl... remember you can always move centres to the wing... not so much the other way around.

Thornton isn't young at 35... but he's also damned near an ironman... missing just 10 games total in the last 10 seasons. I think he's the type of player that could quite easily play well into his early 40's. He certainly should have several solid years left in him and having him in the lineup gives the team another dimension offensively and instantly increases the size and possession ability of the top forward lines.

I know it's G+D as the priority for upgrades and I've said that as well but Thornton would be EXACTLY what they need in the top 6... size, experience, skill + it would definitely put the Oilers on the UFA map... who wouldn't want to come to Edmonton with Thornton/McDavid as your top six centres.

Yup, but I'm fairly confident they have much bigger holes to fill than the back up goalie position

Yes. Malkin, Stamkos, Carter all play wing for periods of time throughout the season

I just want to sign Ramo/Niemi and roll with Scrivens as the back up/1B.
I'm so sick of hearing that the Oilers have to pay the 16th for one of Bernier/Talbot/Lehner/Lack who are all unproven

I'd love to bring in Marleau(he can actually play wing/centre) to mentor McDavid but there would really be no way I can see it happening. Extremely durable and a big body...but can he play RW?

Hall-McDavid-Marleau ....sigh

Brad Richards looked pretty gosh darn good this year and especially in the playoffs. He could be a much cheaper option and would prolly sign only a 2 year term.

I'd sign him to play on Landers line. Good mentor and can play wing. Sign him and dump Purcell somewhere else

If he's going to come cheap I can see him sticking in CHI again.

I would steer clear of Richards. I think he's on the downslope of his career, and consider he was a poor skater even in his best years, I don't think he'll have much to offer going forward.

Richards will most likely want to go to a team that is already a contender if it is a short term modest deal.

Maybe more to offer then Purcell?

Didn't Brad Richards just have one of the worst seasons in his career?

Pat Kane can make a lot of guys look good. Stop Gap number 2? Sure for a year but might as well go with Roy, probably cheaper.

I'm pretty sure we're gonna roll RNH-McDavid-Lander-Gordon to start. Whether it's the right/best thing is debate able.

They might want to come but unless we ship out one of our $6 million forwards we're not going to have cap space for Thornton and much else. Personally I dont think the Nuge would work as well on the wing as either Eberle or Hall so he's the one I move.

Well then we're considering the "value" of these goalies in different lights. There are also UFAs.

Bernier hasn't done the playing 60+ games in one season, so there isn't actually a reason to suggest that he can.

Again, improve, as much as possible, not just as much as is convenient.

So if somebody hasn't done a thing before then there is no possible reason to think they are capable of that thing?
