Yakupov + Fayne for Lucic + Ehrhoff

RNH for Seth Jones

Justin Schultz + EDM 2nd for Eric Staal

Hall Staal Pouliot
Lucic McDavid Eberle

Sekera Ehrhoff
Klefbom Jones
Reinhart Gryba

I'm assuming these are sarcastic deals but the first one is super appealing. Not that LA does it, but I would.

If LA continues to flounder I could see Lucic being made available. Kings are not going to have the cap room to resign him especially with Kopitar needing to be extended, their D needs help too. The Brown + Gaborik contracts are going to kill them. I think Lucic was just a one year stop gap move with the hope of eeking out another Cup with their current group, but if they're not even going to make the playoffs, I think they'd probably look in a different direction.

Man, for some reason I'm really starting to get the impression somehow that you think Lucic would be a good target. ;)

What happens if Ehrhoff and Lucic both walk after this season? Way too much risk.

Would love Lucic. Don't think Ehroff is a big enough improvement on what we already have.

As for the second deal with Carolina, not a chance in hell.

Staal is a UFA at the end of the year and will cost around 7-8 mil per. Lucic is in the same boat and will cost 6+. That's 30 million plus McDavid. I like the look of that top 6 but I just don't think it is sustainable whatsoever once McDavid gets his 3nd contract.

Here are some more affordable targets I like:

Wayne Simmonds- 3.975 cap hit for the next 3 years.
Brock Nelson- 2.5 for 3 years
Charlie Coyle- 3.2 for 5 years
Brad Marchand- 4.5 for 2 years
Martin Hanzal- 3.1 for 2 years
Curtis Lazar- ELC for 2 more years
Nick Bjugstad- 6 years 4.1

Let Staal walk unless he's interested in a shorter term deal. We didn't give any assets to get Justin Schultz anyway. Him being here a year minimum gives us neccessary sheltering to McDavid and Draisaitl.

Lucic I would re-up.

Someone's gotta explain the logic of replacing a 22 year old 50-60 point C who makes $6M a year with a 30 year old 50-60 point C who makes $9 million and will walk in a few months.

Doughty won't be traded.

We can offer RNH, Hall, Yakupov and they'll probably decline.

Just spitballing:

Hall + Nurse for Doughty

Thoughts?

LA would never do it.

Would love the Oilers to somehow acquire Nick Bjugstad. Charlie Coyle would be nice, but I doubt Minnesota trades him.

Disagree. Hall and Nurse are two very good players. They would at least give it a New York Minute before saying no.

Doughty is IMO the 2nd best defencemen in the NHL behind Keith. He ain't going nowhere. Their depth isn't like St. Louis on the backend. They need him.

Florida does have two very big centers with similar strengths in Bjugstad and Barkov. RNH might be a better compliment as a 1-2 punch. Hall for Coyle plus futures would be too good for Minny to pass up. Same with Hall for Simmonds+ as the Flyers would jump at a top line left handed shot to go with righties Vorachek and Giroux. Although our top 6 doesn't look as sexy on paper afterwards, they could at least break even 5vs5. Throw in a Yak plus for Marchand trade and I would like it even more.

Marchand McDavid Simmonds/Coyle
Pouliot Bjugstad Eberle

As a Preds fan I would listen to a deal with somthing around RNH 4 Jones. Both teams fill desperate needs.

I would alright with a deal like this in the offseason, maybe the deadline. I just don't think Jones has warranted enough to return Nuge just yet however.
We are banking too much of our future on potential already.

If Voynov was still playing for them then maybe they do think long and hard about it. The LA defence is pretty bad for a contender, without Doughty it would be garbage.

Watching the Toronto vs Columbus game. Dubinsky and Jenner are exactly what this team needs. Jenner is an assistant captain on that team for a reason at 22. It feels like all 6 of their D are better than ours.

Don't seem to be helping the Blue Jackets out much. They've started as bad as we have.
