he has been doing well lately. Jones and Whitney for Boyle , Gilroy, pick..........may work out

it leaves Miller at C on 3rd line so maybe they can get a guy like Thompson from TB for depth as a rental? or Goc for FLA who has a yr left for a pick?

As are we does that makes us sellers. OTT has a good young team that is staying afloat . I doubt they sell anyone . Spezza is coming back and so is there goalie ( and there back ups have been as good as ours

and most thought anything under 4 million for PK was a pipe dream.

Most people though MDZ would get more than 3.5 himself. 2.55 per for 2 years.

Sather has been one of the better GM's at getting guys to commit to bridge contracts. I see no reason that would be any different for Hags and Stepan

2.5 per for both Step and Hags.

McD probably gets a long term deal in the 4 million range.

Hagelin is arbitration eligible. It wouldn't be a bridge contract.

i wouldnt mind Jones or Thompson... but id rather have Gilroy than Whitney... Whitney is soft overpaid and doesnt do anything well. sounds like Tom Poti 2.0 STAY FAR AWAY SATHER. i love how fans want a soft defense. how about a defenseman to clear the crease.. what the heck would it take to get Stuart or Matt Greene or B.Jackman?? id rather have that type of dman for the playoffs than some soft non physical dman who doesnt even put up enough pts to be able to deal with that flaw...

Yeah, but if O'Reilly gets a 2/10 offer sheet you can be damned sure Steps and Hags will get one, too. Might not be 5/per, but someone will take a gander on them if they hold out at 3.5+/per.

Again, I think 2.5 is fantasy for them. (edit)

Dubinsky got $3.7 million / 2 years coming off his entry level deal.

Callahan got $4.6 million over 2 years.
 
Wonder whether Mathew Lombardi is available if the coyotes are out of it by April 3rd.
They got him for a 4th, may command a 3rd? He would fit the system, FO, speedy, hardworking and offensive potential on the 3rd line. Can play C or LW.

But, that was how many years ago? And what precedent did ROR just set by having a.) an offer sheet sent his way and b.) ultimately signing for 5/per?

2.5 is fantasy. Hags and Steps are basically on pace for 60 point seasons if you prorate it to 82. 2.5 won't get it done, you'll see.

No they are not.

Stepan in on pace for 55 points.
Hagelin is on pace for 52 points (rounded up)

And, just because one team tried to poach a player doesn't mean that it will happen again.

How often are these Offer-sheets handed out?

More importantly, how often are they actually signed by the player?

and for the record, no precedent was set with the ROR signing. Guys who sign offer-sheets are basically given UFA type money to induce them to signing the actual off-sheet and to try to scare the team owning the players right from matching.

It's why Neil Smith front loaded Sakic's contract with a 14 million 1st season.

We'll see. I guess we'll just agree to disagree. I don't think 2.5 will get it done for any of the three.
 
If we go for Jagr, we might as well go the full 9 yards and acquire every RW'er in the league. Other teams wouldn't even be able to ice full lines.

I disagree. I think the landscape has changed in the NHL and offer sheets to RFA's are going to be far more attractive to clubs tight under the cap than Getzlaf type UFA contracts for massive money. If I'm club XYZ and I can sign a guy like Stepan to an offer sheet and lose a first and a third for a 3yr 3.5/per deal, I'll do that every time over spending 6 or 7 million on one player with a 64 million cap.
 
ROR needed an offer sheet to get 2 years/$10M. The Avs matched. Offer sheets are exercises in futility. The team offering the sheet doesn't get the player and they drive up the price on every team to re-sign their own players. The Flames chairman Murray Edwards was a hawk during the lockout. The other teams are pissed at Edwards for the offer sheet. He's a hypocrite. Stepan will need an offer sheet to get $5M. The Rangers will match any sheet and the other teams know it. Stepan will sign a 2 year bridge contract. Sather doesn't pay a player unless he has to. Buffalo gave Myers a ridiculous contract when they didn't need to do it. Stupid. When Stepan is arb eligible,he will have the hammer. Sather has the hammer now. McDonagh and Hagelin will have the hammer in July. The Rangers weren't paying ROR the type of money he wanted in a 2nd contract not being arb eligible before getting the sheet. Staal was the only player who didn't get a bridge contract. Lundqvist got a 1 year deal before getting his current deal. 2 years of entry level. 1 year $4.25M. Then the current deal. Sather didn't have the space in a $50.3M cap in 07-08 to give Henrik nearly $7M per. $56.7M cap for 08-09. First year of the 6 years.

But Offer-sheets ARE for UFA type massive money. It's the only way to induce a player to sign the actual contract.

You are giving up UFA money to an RFA, no other reason for the player to sign the contract.

AND you run the risk of retalitory poaching. Not a smart way to conduct business.

If you are willing to trade the 1st, 2nd and 3rd (ROR Compensation) then make the offer to trade for that player.

Doubt you will see offer-sheets as often as you think.
