Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

I dont want him back, but its not more absurd than a ton of the trades being proposed in this thread - most of which you condone.

Even absurdity has levels.

Dubinsky being traded for after just being traded is setting record highs. There is nothing about trading for him that is even realistic let alone logical. If we are going to have absurd fantasy ideas about getting any players back that were a key to this team and bled NYR hockey it should be Brandon Prust. Since we are making delusional suggestions let's send MTL an injured Asham, Gilroy, Gaborik, Boyle and a 3rd for Subban, Borque, Prust and Plekanec. Sounds good to me.

Brandon Prust was a top3 passer, top3 PK and top3 forechecker on this team. He could be number one in all 3 on any given night. If we are going to lament let's at least do it about someone worth it.

I would look to add Yannick Weber from Mtl, a Dman with a bullet from the point, who can skate and would help our PP. Defensively...3rd pair at best, however, he would be a better option than Gilroy.
Also, I would inquire about Curtis Glencross from Calgary. He would be a very good fit on the 3rd line. Plays hard and could generate some offense, which we need from the bottom lines.

Blue Jackets have quietly won 5 in a row. They looked certain to be sellers again as recently as 10 days ago - now Im not so sure.

Bobrovsky has been playing very well. He's never been a model of consistency, so I'm not sure I'd expect their good fortunes to hold out. I'm hopeful for their success though. Hate to see a team struggle that badly for so long.

I'm not so sure their turnaround is all about the Bob.

He's been good, but is it a coincidence the team started getting hot when management was changed?

The Rangers need (2) 3rd line forwards. Where they come from who knows but having Boyle and Miller, even though Miller has looked decent, is not a good idea. Depth scoring is almost as important as top-end scoring due to injuries and tighter defense. Chimera would be a great addition. Same with Ryan Jones.

I guess we'll see how it plays out. I worry that if the hot streak is a result of a change of management, it might be an emotional swing in momentum. Those are tough to sustain. Jarmo hasn't put his stamp on things yet.

Players I like who may, or my not be available:

Chimera
Hendricks
Glencross
Jones
Ott
Regehr
Letestu
Hornqvist
Murray

I think the Rangers should seriously take a look at (2) forwards + (1) defenseman. Depth is key.

Who/what are they giving him to get any one of these guys?

If I was on that team, I'd feel alot better with Howson gone.

The younger players on that team are starting to come on, even though the team has gone through a rash of injuries.

Opposition still taking them too lightly, it'll be interesting to see what happens. In their next 7 they play Vancouver and Nashville twice each, Chicago and Phoenix once.

Murray won't cost a ton. Hendricks won't either. Guys like Ott will obviously cost more. In an ideal world, Boyle would be the focal point for one of these guys.

If we are so quick to get rid of Boyle, and you feel that those guys are all an upgrade, I dont understand why a team would be willing to accept Boyle in return.

I have to wonder the same thing. You don't attempt to upgrade a position from the same position unless there is a change of scenery swap both teams feels they can benefit from or there is cap relief involved.

But if Boyle is the player he's being portrayed as being, woudn't the fact that he has a contract for next season be a detriment?

I don't think he is a detriment at all. I just think he would fit better with a couple of more skilled players controlling the puck and being a primary PKer and defensive face-off guy. Again, his value is not as high to the Rangers as it would be to other teams.

I'm not saying they don't. My point is they get moved for similar players, not as the focal point in a package for an upgrade.

that's why some have thrown a in a prospect/pick in addition to Boyle.

Boyle straight up isn't going to yield much in return as you know...

Letestu would an excellent fit for the Rangers. Can play in the middle. Can play on the right side. PK. Plays the point on the PP. Right handed shot. He was playing with Brassard and Prospal yesterday. Johansson looks to be coming into his own. He centers a line with Umberger and Foligno. Letestu is the guy. Aucoin looks like he is 100 years old playing with Timmy Erixon. Johnson plays with Tyutin. Nikitin with Prout. Moore and Wisniewski are injured. Letestu is a group III in July and he makes no money.

We need left handed playmaker (like Riberio/LeCav) and/or right handed point man (Boyle/Zubov) to compliment Brad Richards and build a proper modern PP.

No more cheating with players with their sticks pointing in the wrong direction. It's the NHL 2013, not 91'.

Jones? Not David, I hope. :amazed:
