Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

If NYR are seriously considering getting someone from the Nash trade back, it's gotta be Anisimov. Don't see Columbus moving him, they're happy with his play and his new contract this summer would make our cap situation more difficult. Most likely Letestu or Prospal are players of interest. Maybe Boll if Asham's injury doesn't improve, but no idea what his contract status is or if Columbus would trade him.

Speaking subjectively, I would love to see Anisimov back in a Rangers uniform. I don't feel the same way about Dubinsky, but that's just me. I was, and still am, quite comfortable with the departure of Dubinsky and his contract.

I don't see the need unless he starts putting up more goals. We have plenty of bottom-6 players that can score 0 goals outside of an eclipse happening.

Yeah. Bottom 6 suckage in the goals department kind of makes it more important that we find more bottom finishers.

With him being Edmonton's best center right now, I doubt that it'll be easy to get them to move him.

It's gonna be another year without the playoffs for the Oil this year, so not sure how much that's gonna matter by April 3. He's an RFA next year. They're assured another young stud in this years draft. Not gonna be able to afford all these guys. Just my train of thought.

They're at the bottom of the league in terms of spending to the cap.

They don't have many bad long term contracts. Maybe Horcoff is amnestied in 2013 or 2014. If Chicago can keep Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, and Seabrook, and Pittsburgh can keep Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang, and MAF, then Edmonton can keep their young core intact as well. Oh, and if they're smart, they'll give Gagner a bridge contract like we did with DZ instead of giving him the big bucks right away, like they did with Hall and Eberle.

The real question is the quality of the Edmonton Oiler front office.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the embarrassment of riches they have (with more likely more to come in this deep draft year), but the Oilers have a lot of work to do that requires real expertise, if they are to make anything out of it.

I can't wait until the trade deadline has passed. People are throwing Powe into already bad trades, when he's generally a guy you add to your team for a playoff run, and specifically a great match for this team. Powe adds much needed forechecking, energy and PK. That's 3 things this team was lacking before the steal of a trade with the Wild.

And people want to trade for Dubinsky, an inconsistent schlub getting paid 4.2 million. You know who gets paid that kinda money? Milan Lucic. Dubinsky is not Looch. He's a third liner who flatlined. Yes, he can play C or LW. Gotta love that versatile inconsistency and lack of finish. He'll protect the puck well up ice, then fall down and turn it over once he gets to the dots. Let's make room for Dubinsky's 4.2 million by trading away Gaborik, the only recent high profile free agent who's been worth the money here.

But don't worry, Columbus might eat some of his salary. What could the Rangers possibly give up that would be worth convincing the CBJ to retain enough salary that it would be okay for the NYR to bring Dubinsky back? One way or the other, trading for Dubinsky is prohibitive.

Three way trade

Not much for trading Gabby nor am I the biggest fan of dubinsky - especially as I believe we are "going for it" now - but how about this as a Crazy idea?

To Detroit
Marian Gaborik
Rights to Mats Zuccarello

To CBJ
Detroit 1st + 3rd round pick in 2013
One of Dan Cleary or Valteri Filppula
NYRs conditional 3rd rounder from CBJ (otherwise a NYR third rounder for 2014 if Rangers make SCF)

To NYR
Brandon Dubinsky
Thomas Tatar
NYRs 1st round pick 2013 back from CBJ

NYR 2013 playoffs
Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Pyatt - Richards - Tatar
Dubinsky - Miller - Callahan
Powe - Boyle/Halpern - Haley/Asham

Plus an eventual rental or two

Next year Kreider can move up along with eventually some of Fast, Lindberg, Hrivik & Thomas eventually replacing guys like Boyle, Pyatt and Asham on the roster...
Cap is no problem at all - see below where all pending RFAs get their raises
Also plenty of space to sign a UFA RH defender with a slapshot for the PP - especially if Big Mac is not deemed ready.
There might be some interesting options of players that get bought out with the one-time buyout and become free agents as well
I dunno ?

DEFENSEMEN

holy crap guys Dubi stinks right now. No way they are going to get him back , his cap hit blows. If you want to try and get Arty back suuuuuuure even thought that's not going to happen either

lets move on, be happy we have Nash. Go get a rental UFA for some depth. 3rd rounder and Zuccarello's rights for Nik.

Do any of you honestly think we would trade for Dubinsky at this point? What are we going to do with his 4M+ salary going forward? What does he actually produce?

1 goal in 15 games, and then he got injured. Worst of all, $4.2M cap hit. I would take a Dubinsky clone on this team to help with depth, but he'd have to be making about $3M less.

As others have said, we were very lucky to get rid of that contract and have him serve as a de-facto centerpiece in the Nash trade. VERY lucky. Whats with the fascination of bringing him back? Familiar name?

How many times do we have to go over the idea that Zuccarello's rights have little to no value?

And if Dubi stinks, explain what your beloved Nik is? 2 more points (same number of goals) than Dubi in 10 more games played.

I still think this team can gel given a bit more time. I know its been brought up ad naseum but the entire bottom 6 has been revamped from last year and we've barely iced a healthy team this season.

Couldn't agree more with this post. I feel like I've been saying this every other day in these trade rumor threads.

Letestu would an excellent fit for the Rangers. Can play in the middle. Can play on the right side. PK. Plays the point on the PP. Right handed shot. He was playing with Brassard and Prospal yesterday. Johansson looks to be coming into his own. He centers a line with Umberger and Foligno. Letestu is the guy. Aucoin looks like he is 100 years old playing with Timmy Erixon. Johnson plays with Tyutin. Nikitin with Prout. Moore and Wisniewski are injured. Letestu is a group III in July and he makes no money.

Blue Jackets have quietly won 5 in a row. They looked certain to be sellers again as recently as 10 days ago - now Im not so sure.

Some sanity.

It took this team a good 20 games to final settle in after revamping the lineup. The top 6 is starting to score more, and the bottom 6 is playing a more grinding/physical game. The middle of the forward corp, which was a black hole earlier this year, is finally starting to solidify.

So whats the solution in this trade threads? More disruption to the lineup? Theres not enough time to recover from more turnover in this shortened season.

Good points all around.

Sometime I come up with them. I just dont get the fascination with 8 player deals that completely change the makeup of a team.

I guess the beauty is if they dont work, it means the trade was still great, but its Torts' fault for not "adapting"
